Another couple of other things regarding my order:

-I had my online order associated with a sales rep. So I could personally e-mail this person to ask for updates and questions. Granted, most of the time, I got stock answers, but at least it was something.

-Like a number of others in this thread, the rep said he would "expedite my order". I'm not sure if it really meant anything or not. I kinda thought it was another stock reply in order to satisfy the customer.

Really hope you get your confirmation e-mail and tracking number soon.

This ordering situation is ridiculous. I ordered on 6/11, spoke to a rep almost 2 weeks ago who said he would expedite my order, and today he sends me an email that my delivery date is still 7/9. Meanwhile, orders that were placed after mine are being delivered all over the country and across the border into Canada.

Makes no sense at all. i7, 4gb, 320gb, bt, personalized nameplate, soft touch black.

Yeah, I'm not in a hurry, it's been fun reading these forums to pass the time. :)

Though, I'm going to need to order that BluRay player before the 30th before the rebate goes away.

Seems like someone from the delivering dept. is reading this forum too ;)
a few hours after my last post i got an "shipped" order status.

So far so good. Ordered 6/22, shipped 6/29, hopefully to arrive here within the next few days.

Ordered mine the night of 6/17 and received 6/25 in the morning. Dell sent me an e-mail on the night of 6/25 stating the laptop was shipped. Weird, but I'm not complaining. However, I just checked the Alienware website, and they are offering $200 off the i7 with the same amount of RAM and HDD space that I selected. Oh well.

I Ordered mine on 6/22: Initial EDD was 7/20.
[m11x- i7 - 8gb Ram, 320 GB HDD, soft touch black, personalized nameplate]
I was disappointed to see "In Production" status every day.
I chatted with Dell rep and he said that the time required to assemble and test is about 7 days.
Today 6/29 my status was changed to "Delivery Preparation" with EDD 7/2/2010(Updated).
    FYI: I live in chicago.
Hope it does not come during the long weekend.. I will be out..

Latest non-update. Dell says my order is on track for the 6th, but it isn't "shipped". I asked what phase, but she didn't understand what I was asking or pretended as much.

I was told that there were delays with my order. I told her I had an email saying that there was no delay with my order from a week and a half ago. No explanation. She did take my number, and said they would call me back, but I can't see them hitting the 6th if it isn't shipped yet. Most frustrating experience ever. From her reaction I got the feeling that my order wasn't delayed....it was totally dropped/screwed up/missed.

I would call them. I got the distinct impression that if I didn't call them today I would have been calling on my EDD asking them WTH. When I remarked that it has been "in production" 21 days, she admitted it was unusual. Something is definitely not right.

I just received a call from the supervisor of my customer care rep. He said that the "chassis" is out of stock from the supplier. When I told him that other people who placed their order upto a week after mine had already received their notebooks, he gave me the standard spiel that the orders for this notebook had exceeded expectations... all orders are manufactured in the order in which they were received. If I have an order number from someone with the same config (i7, 4gb, 320gig hdd, bt, softouch black, personalized nameplate) then he would use that number to investigate. He has no idea when the chassis will get back into stock.

This is really pissing me off. If anybody has a config like mine and ordered after 6/11, I'd appreciate an email with your order number. No need to give me anything else, because the order # by itself doesn't do anything.

He's probably making s**t up. I was told something totally different today. I was told that there was a problem with the availability of the 320GB hard drive. The hard drive being backordered is way more likely than the chassis.

Edit: I'm waiting on a call back from them too. Unfortunately, I had a last minute business trip dropped on me and I'm going away 2 days after my EDD. I'm going to tell them to get it to me by the EDD or cancel the order. This has been way more headache than has been necessary or desired. I'll happily return the portfolio and antiglare screen at this point and just get the Envy 14 or the Timeline when it becomes available. This is easily one of the worst experiences I've ever had dealing with a company at this point.

Very hard considering there are more than one places of production. There are also daily technical problems in every production warehouse than can add delays to just a few or many systems. Also, parts of production are controlled by people, and since people work at different speeds, that changes the order of things. It is impossible to make it FIFO exactly.

It makes sense to me that there may be production issues when you have a lot of configurations. IMO the problem is that there is an absolute lack of communication. I understand that you had an issue, but how about letting the customer know about it. Setting expectations is a basic part of service delivery. It's no mystery. Instead, what happens is people start hearing about orders put in WEEKS after theirs that were fulfilled while we can't even get a status update. It's shockingly poor customer service.

And that's the exact reason why they put the EDD so far away, so that if something happens, back order, etc.. they still have time to recover. If its shipping already they usually update it. While it's in the factory it will always be the furthest possible date because they cannot estimate based on so many variables.

I disagree. When the EDD is a month away, once they miss it they've already created a very upset customer. If a part gets back ordered or there is some other problem, basic communications serve several purposes. It first off resets customer expectations. It also let's them know that something is happening. Silence invites doubt and speculation over the process. Being straightforward stops all that. Again, this is basic customer service in any industry. It doesn't matter if you are selling computers, or serving food in a restaurant.

Yes, setting a far off EDD makes sense for that reason. But their system totally lacks information. Remember when you could see it was in building, or testing, or anything. At least there was an indication of progress. Now you get zip. You call up and get information that is available on the web. You can disagree of course, but from my experience dealing with customers, meeting their questions with silence is a bad practice.

I completly agree with this, and because of this, even though my m11x came fairly quickly, I'm not willing to buy from them again. I would've opt to search for a desktop replacement lappy the next time around, but because of this massive hassle, I'm just going to build my own desktop.

Did Dell say it shipped on the 26th or FedEx? Dell updates it to shipped when they send the information to FedEx for pickup, not when it actually ships from their warehouse towards your house. For instance, mine was "shipped" according to Dell on the 24th but it wasn't actually picked up by FedEx until yesterday, and then NBD shipping meant it got here today.

Dell said it shipped on 26th... Checked with Fedex and they picked it up on 28th and the scheduled delivery date is 30th...it still isn't NBD....anyways i should stop complaining and be happy that its finally getting here...its the excitement thats getting me....i ordered on 6/11 and finally getting it on 6/30.

I have something similar, where it was changed to 7/2 delivery (3 days away!) and its still in production according to the site. So I called up and was told that its in the box, waiting to be shipped out. In my case I was told by the rep that it will be shipped on 7/1 and will arrive on 7/2 (I guess somehow I was upgraded to next day shipping, even though the site is telling me 7 day shipping). As to why it won't be shipped, say, today, if its in the box I have no clue.

I actually had a fairly good experience - rep said she would give me a call with the info as soon as it ships, and sent me an e-mail with how to get into contact with her asap if I have any more questions.

Dell just called me, 10 minutes ago. Told me my order was in final production stages and would be shipped out in 2-3 days next day air. Hope I get it friday!

    Ordered 6/15, EDD says 7/8/10

That's because it's cheaper for FedEx (and thus Dell) to pick up full truck loads than partial ones because the latter means more trips and more trucks and more drivers in use. It's always about $$$

I live in Canada and I ordered mine on the 18th, it came 2 hours ago 6/29 (9 days after order, 2 days after initial shipping). Some people say they got NBD shipping in the us and theres still havn't arrived when they ordered before me. Dell is pathetic. I don't have the option to get NBD shipping and I got it faster, tell me how that makes any sense lol.

Not that I'm complaining, just I feel bad for the people who havn't gotten theirs yet.
