M11x Order Status Discussion Thread - Part 2

And it's so easy to fix. Just communicate. I deal with Newegg and CDW and Amazon all the time. They all tell you when something is backordered. It's not rocket science.

 

Guys, who designs and builds the pc? Is it Dell or Alienware? In other words, am I receiving a Dell quality pc or Alienware?

 

AFAIK Alienware closed their factories (they were in Miami and Ireland) and are using the usual ODMs in China, so it's Dell who builds them. I think the Alienware engineering team was retained. But at the end of the day, it is a Dell brand now, which is clearly evident through their inability to provide service.

 

Dell owns Alienware. Besides branding, there is really no difference between the two companies as far as I know.

wow they really bumped back the EDD. Just yesterday I was configuring one for fun and it had an EDD of 7/8 or 7/9.

I just ordered my m11x r2 a few hours ago and my order was changed almost immediately to in production, not even giving me a grace period to cancel my order if I chose. This greatly worries me, the speed of how fast it went into production tells me that they probably just had a returned or refurbished m11xr2 lying around and will now be sending me that and pass it off as a brand new unit. This is how I assume dell does their business because a large company like Dell would get high return rates, and instead of wasting money having old, possibly defective parts lying around, they probably reuse them. It is only economical to do so. This also explains the numerous complaints some customers have been getting with parts becoming defective days after receiving a "new" laptops (e.g. the hinge issue) or some who receive laptops that are defective on arrival.

I know for a fact that at least HP does this because when I got my "new" TX2000Z there was dust all over the inside of the heat vents and scratches. Opening up the vents on the back I saw some more dust and light wear marks.

 

There may be some truth to the 320GB HDD's being the part thats in low supply. I ordered mine on 6/11, with an EDD of 07/08.

My order is still listed as "in production". I e-mailed Dell EPP Customer Support 3 days ago regarding the long wait time, and got a response back today:

" We have been able to expedite your order, the machine has been built and is at a stage where its being tested and boxed, I am expecting your order to be shipped in the next 2-3 days.

Sweet, 3 days early is better than nothing

 

Fear not. They change orders to "In Production" as soon as the credit card is verified. Mine has been in that status for 3 weeks and still hasn't shipped.

 

Mine is "In Production" as well...ordered about 2 hours ago. Didnt check the status right after ordering...it might go straight to that phase.

 

Im kind of sure that it will arrive tmr to my place. I have a question though. The fan underneath the m11x is an intake fan? If so is it OK for me to get a notebook cooler like this one: Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Notebook Cooling Model NotePal U2 (R9-NBC-8PBK-GP)

Where you can rearrange the position of the two fans, one of the fans being directly underneath the m11x's "intake" fan. Is that OK?

Guess all my b***tchin' paid off. Got a call today that they expedited it and it'll ship today. It's showing up as shipped on my order page without any tracking information yet, and my EDD didn't change yet. From the conversation, it definitely sounded like I would have had a decent length wait if I hadn't called in. Dell apparently just greases the squeaky wheel. All you 320GB victims....start squeaking.

 

I know people are listing their specs to try and determine delayed orders, but it is probably worth mentioning if they had any programs installed and engraving.

The logical thing for Dell to have would be an image for each scenario, but you can specify colors, desktop themes, etc. Might be a factor if they just do "plain" orders first.

Just updated my i7, 256gb ssd, 2gb ram, nameplate, gobi, bluetooth order ... Ordered on 6/15, recently updated to delivery on 7/2, now this:

But 7 day delivery ... weird?

 

Looks like the 320 GB issue is solved, mine shipped today, ordered 6/11.
However, th EDD from both dell and FedEx is 7/6.
What the hell happened to 2 Day Shipping!?

 

If you're in the US and it shipped today, then whats likely going on is:

Business day shipping only, so won't deliver on a weekend (7/3 and 7/4), and 7/5 is a federal holiday (july 4 is on a sunday, so workers take it off on monday) and there are likely no deliveries that day either. So 7/6.

So you still have two day business day shipping - shipped out 7/1, in transit 7/2, arrives 7/6.

Dell.ca also ships purolator, which I had a horrible experience with last year. Bought a computer from NCIX, arrives in Toronto, and the delivery guy twice in the same day marks my status on the package as "Delivery attempted" even stating he left a note, but I was home ALL DAY, took the day off work and nothing. Buzzer was included with shipping info, and not once even tried. Calls to Purolator CS to arrange a pick up myself, was told it would take 48 hours to arrive at their pick up centre. Was total BS. I found the number to the depot, called and simply showed up to pick it up within the hour, no issues. Apparently the delivery guy didn't even pick it up.

I'm hoping when my package this times arrives, it's a different delivery guy, but I'm not holding my breath. Anyone else in toronto have issues with Purolator?

 

Ordered on dell.ca also. Got the delivery preparation status on the front page but status says In rpduction still.

Then 3 hours later I get the Order ship e-mail but status still says in production.

I have shipping as being canada standard. Anyone known how long it take and from where they come from for dell.ca.

The agony is fainnlay coming to an end.

Dell has shipped mine on 29th . Their website was not updated until today[1-july]. FedEx is scheduled to deliver it tomorrow.. ..

I ordered my r2 a few days ago, and noticed today that they had the wrong shipping address. Do you know Dell can't modify that without canceling and replacing the order? Me either.

Finanlly its shipped. I even got a call from Puralator saying that it will be delivered on the 5th of July. They can get a machine to call and tell me this but they can put it on the internet.

Also, some Dude called me from India to tell me it was shipped. How useless. How about putting these people to work in telling us why it is taking forever ship what are the hold up.
