M11x Order Status Discussion Thread - Part 2

Haha, we finally figured out the mystery of the delays. What did they expect, get almost 200$ off on an i7 upgrade including optimus which people were craving for ever since R1 came out and not have crazy orders come in. Maybe they did underestimate their own product.

Was that on that discount deal? If yes then the orders will start shipping for people with later order dates. Mine was 6/24; Updated EDD is 7/19. They did upgrade shipping to next day. Was yours delayed or your EDD remained the same through it all?

Good point. But we can't figure out the number or percentage of canceled orders.

I think that there's only one more notebook that can interest the same public of the M11x, the Vaio Z which is a bit more expensive. I'm talking for myself because I was looking for a compact notebook ranging from 12" to 13", but not a netbook. When I'm not gaming I use to work , and my job requires some testing being done in virtual machines. The M11x SU7300, i5 and i7 processors, all have support for VT-x, and the i5 and i7 also supports EPT (similar to AMD's RVI). Having a 7200RPM HDD and plenty of RAM to run one or two simultaneous VM's, is all that is needed for a decent performance in this scenario. Running VM's is a bit more heavy duty than most of the users usually do with their notebooks, when we talk about using the machine to work, of course. And then after the work, you can play games at decent FPS too! In the same machine! The point is that only the Vaio Z can do something like this. Otherwise, you have to go to 14"+ notebooks.

That's why I think the number of canceled orders should be low.

But that's what I think, and maybe I'm wrong. Anyways, I'm liking this thread, lot's of opinions and people sharing their points of view and useful information like what Abor posted about Dell taking too many orders because of the promotion, which is one of the causes for the delays.

You just hit it right on the head. I will be using my m11x in the exact same way. Little powerful work laptop for testing different environments and then when the work is done a good gaming laptop to have while on the road for work. Def gonna help pass time sitting in various hotels and airports.

And i just noticed your other post...we got the exact same config as well.

 

I did not have discount. No delayed, 2 days earlier than original EDD. And thx.

 

I guess they would be more careful before giving any kind of substantial discounts, maybe the Dell division instituted the discounts and the Alienware division just got overwhelmed.

Man that sux. I have the exact order date, and pretty much the exact specs (other than mine has SSD). Mine still is "in production" even though we still have the same EDD 7/14. Dell hates me.

My order got delayed to 7/20 so I called in and told them I would like to have shipping expedited to NBD due to the delay

The agent had 0 problem doing so, and his supervisor came to talk to me asking how my experience was with this agent, and of course I said this agent was great and did not give me any problems

I did this through the website chat.

 

Weird how you guys are getting delayed orderes my order came in less than 2 weeks. and I ordered it last week of june.

 

i got bumped to 07/22 from 7/15 , is this a common occurrence from dell to be this late on stuff ? i took the damn 15th off cuz i was off the 16th and 17th already so i had a nice 3 day weekend to play with the thing. dammit

 

Actually after reading this thread, I went ahead and canceled my order. A month wait just for a darn laptop is crazy to me. Just ordered one off ebay from a reputable seller and it should be here in a couple days =)

Exactly! No delays caused by parts shortage or any other thing. They just underestimated the market and got overwhelmed. And we are paying the price: endless waiting.

i7, 4gigs, Lunar shadow (the gray one)... I'm ok with that delivery date after hearing some of the stories here, but I agree it's a little too long of a wait for a laptop, 2-3 weeks.

Also I'm disappointed in myself for choosing the i7 instead of the i5 or even the Core2 R1... I hope down the line the Optimus thing works out.

I really must say a lot can be done if you decide to talk to sales personally. I am living in Asia and i was able to get the manager to prcoess my overseas credit card and ship to my buddy's place in states.. M so happy it didnt get flagged or nething! Now just to join the wait like you other people

 

Finally shipped! Dell order status page still says in production. Called 800-433-9014 and entered my order number, says it shipped on the 07/13

 

My Dell rep called me today to tell me that my machine was finished and the status would update either tonight or tomorrow (EDD 7/21)

I came here to post that and saw sck180sx's post so I called the number. It says that my machine shipped (past tense) on July 15th and it's new updated delivery date is July 16th. I didn't even know they updated my shipping status to next day, the rep never told me that...

 

Still in production ...

I still have the standard free shipping (which says 7 day) I know it doesnt take that long from TN to IL but im still showing as the 16th for EDD

 

ok so i called dell and asked for a tracking number since the page has not been updated. rep said it actually won't be shipping for a couple more days. called that 800 number again and now its saying it shipped on 07/15 with an edd of 07/20. ?!

 

Just got an email back and this is what it says
"According to the update from factory your order has moved to final stage and would ship in another 2-3 business days"
still looking at a EDD of 7/19 =/

 

Someone else mentioned this earlier, but I had an EDD of the 19th, and it recently updated to the 16th. So I called the automated thing, and it says it ships on the 15th and will be there by the 16th. I also was not aware that I am getting next day shipping, but I'm certainly not gonna complain . I ordered on July 1st, and got the i7, 320 gb hd, bt-enabled, 4 gb ram, stealth black model.

 

Wait, how did you get next day shipping!?

I just joined this forum after reading some of the posts here in the order status discussion.

FWIW, I ordered an M11x in the same general configuration as most of the recent posters here on 7/1. According to Dell, my EDD is 7/16. Hasn't changed one way or the other since placing the order.
Looking forward to seeing it. I could never pull the trigger on the Core2Duo version because I didn't like the color options. When I saw the an image of the stealth black color I placed the order an hour later.

 

I honestly don't know how... I just chose up to 7 day shipping (which technically does not exclude next day shipping). Unless they fudged up my delivery date (which I honestly doubt, because why would they change my date from 7/19 to 7/16 if they weren't sure it was coming by Friday?) that means that I'm getting mine by the end of the week! I'll be posting an unboxing and then a video review as soon as I mess around with it for a day or two

 

Even if you paid for 7-day shipping, your laptop would still come in a day. My laptop shipped on the 6/30 and I received it the next day on 7/1 (from TN to NY). I guess FedEx ground is really fast then

if they delay your order or w/e they will bump you up to next day shipping, thats what happened to me

 

I ordered mine on 7/8, with an EDD of 8/5. I just checked my order status online today, the EDD is now 7/20, still 7 day shipping, means its suppose to ship today?

The automated system says it shipped on 7/15, yay for past tense to represent a future time?

I'll probably pop either the WD 500GB 7200RPM in or perhaps the Seagate 7200.5 750GB 7200RPM in it for increase speed. Hopefully it has a better stock 7200RPM than my HP which has Hitachi's (Not the nice one's apparently) to get me by while I decide which one I want.

They just updated mine saying it shipped on the 15th....with and EDD of the 16th

Checking transit times on the Fedex and UPS sites for ground shipping neither of which are 1 day, I wont have it until next week probably Monday or Tuesday

 

Oh man, my ESD is 7/13, which is today but it still haven't shipped yet! I may have to call them up .

 

Hey all,

I just wanted to be part of the group.. I ordered mine on 6/28. When I ordered mine, it said a EDD of 7/13 (today ). On 7/10, I got a "delay" email, with a new EDD of 7/28! An entire month.

I called dell and started complaining. I got a help desk person to "handle my case personally" in which she claims she has talked with the warehouse to expedite my order.

Anyway, I just looked today, and the EDD was revised to 7/16!

I have no clue what to think, still very angry, but hopeful it has shipped, granted im on vacation this weekend and won't be able to sign for it

QUESTION: How do I know that I got an "R2"? Are all new M11X's R2s?

I ordered on the 23/06 and original ETD was 12/07, yesterday. However last week I checked my status and saw been moved to 27/07, extra 15 days. However the product has shipped and left the factory today and my guess is it will be here by Monday 19/07 latest.

I was also miffed at the time to be honest but look at it realistically. It is most likely custom built, some will be pre-configured and ready to go asap, so allowing for that and any shortage of parts etc.. then 4 weeks from order date to delivery isn't really that bad at all.

So for yours to be on the 16/07 I think is fine. The only issue is Dell setting customers expectations to be sooner than we think and then to be frustrated when they set it back by 2 weeks.

You know you have the R2 if you have ordered the i3/i5/i7 device, which yours is.

Will be nice for you to come back home to after vacation

 

But I always had mine scheduled for the 19th, never was expecting it earlier.... maybe I ordered when they delayed everyone else's machines, so they gave me next day shipping as well.

EDD on website order status page: N/A (yep, that's actually what it says now)

During my last chat with an admittedly pleasant gentleman in India, he assured me they are handling my order with the highest priority. If 5.5 weeks is high priority, I'd hate to see otherwise.
I also suggested expedited shipping to minimize the delay. I was told that once the order is in production the shipping method cannot be changed. Really? The unit isn't going to leave for another two weeks and you can't change the shipping? I'm going to go ahead and call BS on that one.

 

Call up again and get a different rep and try to get the free shipping. If they won't do it, ask for a supervisor. A lot of people have been getting free overnight this way, I would suggest trying it.

Me - I just looked at my new Estimated Delivery Date, and the Dell website is now saying :7/16/2010 (updated). If this is the case, can you please confirm that the item was shipped already? Also can you provide a tracking number?

Dell – Good morning, I would like to confirm to you that the order is in final stages of production and It will be shipped and invoiced in this week for sure. Hope you are happy, I will keep you updated. We need to wait for the order to be invoiced and that’s when we will get the tracking number. Once the order is shipped it has to clear the customs check and then it will be handed over to the carriers , from which we shall get the tracking #. It might take another 72 hrs for us to provide the tracking number

Me - Will shipping be upgraded to next day shipping because of the 2 week delay in production?

Dell- We could not upgrade the mode of shipment to Next Day as the product is being built at a different manufacturing unit due to which Next Day order delivery is not possible.

 

I just chatted with an agent to see if I got the same response. They said my order was ready to be shipped and I will get a tracking number as soon as it is invoiced, and that I should receive it by 7/16 at the latest... sounds great to me!

 

Well, just checked on the status update and the EDD now is 7/16 and they had upgraded shipping to next day. So my guess is it ships 7/15. My order date was 6/24 and original EDD was 7/12 which got updated to 7/19 but now again got bumped to 7/16. Three days and my excitement level is at an all time high, I am typing this instead getting to my meetings on time.
Order was the i7 upgrade discount, 320gb hdd,4gb ram..so on.
