M11x Order Status Discussion Thread - Part 2

Ordered core i7, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd, BT, custom nameplate: 7/23
preliminary ship date: 7/26
EDD: 8/4

 

Strangely enough, the longer I wait for this notebook the less and less excited I am about getting it.

Feels like I've had it a long time when really I just ordered it a long time ago.

Hopefully it renews itself when I come home from work and see that box sitting on the table.

Then again with all the problem threads I have been expecting I will get sent a defective one, so that might be part of the excitement detraction.

 

It usually takes 1-3 days for Dell to build the system and ship so don't worry much.

 

So I ordered 2 days ago, and at the time I ordered the Preliminary Ship date was 7/29 and I had a coupon for a free next day delivery, and yet the EDD is 8/8....Is this normal? Why the difference in dates? Is it normal for Dell to poorly estimate EDD so they don't 'disappoint'?

I Just sent back an Envy 14 for numerous reasons....primarily size, poor battery life (or 7lb weight with the slice battery) and other gripes like buzzing, build quality, etc. I really just want something I can game with while traveling...lots of happy people and good reviews say this is the way to go. I hope y'all are right

 

Yes they do over-estimate.
For example, most people say they get a week or two earlier than the EDD.
I however got my M11x right on the EDD.
Ordered July 1st, EDD of 20th, and it arrived the 20th.

 

status updated to Delivery Preparation, least they gave me some sorta good news I'm guessing it will be here on the EDD

 

mine will be here within the hour..

My first order was on the 23rd of July but I realized that my 10% off coupon was never applied. I called to cancel and they offered to give me a $95 discount after I recieved the laptop which I agreed to. The next day I log in to see status of order and saw that it said cancelled and a new order was placed. My first order had an EDD of the 5th of August and now the second orders EDD is the 10th. Sucks they cancelled my order after I agreed to take the discount they offered me instead of cancelling the order.

 

Well. I'm new to this forum, so hello everyone, and to go ahead and put it out there; I ordered my m11x on Tuesday and the EDD is August 12th. So hopefully it will arrive sooner since i begin school on August 17th.

i waited 3 weeks for mines lol 2 weeks for them to build and ship it to my parents house then another week for them to mail it to okinawa, got it on tuesday and loving it.

Well, so much for it shipping early.

It HAS to ship tomorrow, if the EDD is to be correct.

Though I've a strange feeling that I'll come home tomorrow, see an email from Dell, get really excited, then I'll read "Product has been delayed until xxx". :/

 

any way to speed up the process? i start school next week and won't have time to enjoy this fine peace of machinery

dont think theres a way to speed up the process. should of went with the fast track if you wanted it quickly. but this laptop is worth the wait =]

 

Dude, mines been "In Production" for three days now. How long does it stay that way for?

 

Mine has been "In Production" for two weeks and one day.

 

i know how you feel. i start school in barely two weeks, and even if my EDD is correct I will only be able to have about five days to enjoy it.

 

mine was in production for 3 days and now it say preparing to ship what does that mean!?

 

That means you're one lucky sob that's not going to have to wait weeks like the rest of us.

 

hi, new to forum. actually even joined the forum so i could download the inf files for nvidia drivers in anticipatin of my new 11x

long story short, i just cancelled it. it was supposed to ship today (after moving the date back five days immediately upon purchasing and still showing a totally fictitious ship by date in the sales page)

it may the only player in this segment but that doesnt mean i have to put up with shady business practices.

also, the hinges were a HUUUGE factor in my decision to cancel

that, and the hours and hours of phone calls for any minor issue

 

Ah man i'm sorry it came to that. I just hope that I won't have to cancel mine because I have been wanting an alienware laptop for awhile. And if you don't mind me asking; what desktop/laptop are you planning one buying now?

 

dunno what else to buy. the m11x was replacing a thinkpad x61. ive always used 12" ultraportables and it seems that there none left. another thinkpad x is out of my budget this year.

thinking of getting a vaio s 13" i3 with gt310m. was hoping to do some light gaming with my new rig but i might just wait till next year and see what hits the market

oh, and no giga lan is a joke.

Well I hope you can find the perfect laptop for you. And the Vaio s does sound like it could be a worthwhile investment, simply by it being a Sony product.

 

i just got an email (right after cancelling LOL) that they will ship it out on aug 4. i ordered on july 21, the estimated shipping date at time of purchase was july 25. after ordering i was bumped to july 30.

...and now theyre telling me that i cannot cancel because its in "advanced production"

anyone else have trouble cancelling their order before shipping?

 

Well look on the bright side, maybe your hinges will have the supposed "Fix" that some Dell rep promised...

I've done my research and this machine is great for the size/power comparison, I dont think there's any other machine that comes close right now, but I do wish I hadnt ordered mine so early, I should've waited a bit to see if they fixed the hinge issue or for a 3rd refresh.

 

I do hate to break it to you, but you are not a unique and special snowflake.

I ordered mine on June 29th, received it finally on the 26th of July. Works great no complaints. Sometimes it takes a while, have patience. You will enjoy the little bugger when it is finally in your hands.

Also advanced productions means you must have changed some specs from the default? So they had the unit processed and send out for shipping to arrive here for my QC and then to be shipped TO you.

i do not find it acceptable to have a ship date slip from five days to fourteen with no better explanation than "its an approximate date"

an almost 300% increase in ship time is in no way "approximate"

You're right there is no reason they should increase the length of waiting.

DAGNABIT!!!! AAARRRGGHHH!!! They just delayed my EDD another week! Ordered mine on 21 July, with an EDD of 4 Aug, and I had next business day shipping. Now it's been updated to 10 Aug!!! So frustrating!!! Why would it take 20 days to build a laptop? They must be waiting for parts or something. Wow, this sucks. Wouldn't be so bad if my old laptop hadn't died, but geez 20 days? What are they doing, laser-etching the i7 themselves? Deep breaths.....go to my happy place....center myself.....

I just know that they are going to delay mine too, then. I ordered the 15th but they didn't actually get the order through until the 19th.

I bet I'm going to end up waiting 30+ days for this laptop.

 

My original order on July 6th was lost by FedEx on the 18th. The replacement order was put in on the 28th and canceled last night. Now, it's Saturday, so I can't even call to figure out why.

 

Wow, cappielloa, that really sucks. Sorry to hear that. Maybe my delay is not as bad as it can be. Plus, Viral's has been delayed longer than mine. I'm wondering if it is because I maxed out all the options, maybe they have to wait for a bunch of different parts to put mine together or something. I even looked at the Best Buy site to see what version of the m11X they had and it is the R1 with the Cosmic Black, so I decided against it. I think I may just go get a small netbook to tide me over for the next couple weeks until my m11X gets here. Guess I could give the netbook to my wife when my 11X finally does arrive.

I support all of you fellow m11X buyers that are suffering the long wait with me!!! We're in this together!!

I waited 19 days for mine to come around, and boy oh boy was I so freakin happy when the fedex guy finally came.

 

bloody hell, 19 days! I ordered mine on 19.jul, it saith it shipped for 4 days but did not get it yet

 

If mine comes on the EDD I'll have waited 19 days too.

If it gets delayed beyond that I'm going to flip the f*** out.

 

Does dell/alienware delay shipping just because they don't have the parts? Or to test how much we really want the product?

mine changed to shipped today, gave a tracking number also but lol.. shows it due to be delivered tomorrow? I don't think fedex ships on sundays.
