M11x Order Status Discussion Thread - Part 2

That's the start price! So...who knows when you load it up with quad i7, etc. - I'm guessing close to $1200. But yeah...I am psyched!

EDIT: on topic...these previous posts are not giving me much confidence RE: getting my i5 soon. At least I have next day shipping. Maybe the R3 will be released before I open it up!

 

Yeah, don't get too excited. Mine spent 3 days "in production", and now it's going into it's second day of "delivery preparation". I'd really like to have it soon for school since I have nothing. To make my EDD with 7 business days of shipping it has to go out today, although it probably wont take 7 days to get here after its been shipped. Fast forward 1 week, anyone?

Side question: If my machine has the bad hinges, I have to ship mine back to them, let them fix it, and wait for it to come back? Or do they just send a new one, and when that arrives, I send mine back?

 

Hi Derf, from what I've heard if the PC is still under warranty, you can get the hinge issue repaired at your house through the in-home warranty support. I would assume after the warranty has expired it would be required to ship the laptop in, but I am not positive on that part.

One thing I've noticed with Dell, their order status page is really innacurate. My order was placed on 2/12, and it's basically been "In Production" the entire time. I called in today to see about upgrading the i5 to an i7, and the rep said that my m11x was in the final stages of preparing for shipment, so the laptop has already been built.

I still expect the laptop will arrive on or before the 2/25 expected delivery date. I chose 7 day free shipping (totally spaced on the next day, but from what I'm hearing that doesn't seem to change anything, it seems to just prolong the time they take to build your laptop).

 

Yeah, after some reading I saw this. AWESOME! I wouldn't even have a problem going to a local computer store to get it fixed there. I just don't want to have to send it in and not have my computer for awhile.

I also called yesterday, talked to a guy named Stan, and he told me that my machine was in the final stages of production. So, either a) They just say this to hold people over from the super long build times, or b) coincidentally both of our machine's are at this same point and we got the same thing. We shall see come next week. I find it strange that they have not charged my credit card yet, but I haven't received an email from them saying anything was wrong so I don't know...

 

I tend to go with a) myself, because that's the easiest thing to say when they still have 9 days left to get it shipped to you according to their estimates.

I ordered just the base deal from the weekend, which was i5 520UM, 8GB RAM, 320GB 7.2k drive, soft touch black. Custom nameplate, but other than that, just standard build.

 

Yeah, I totally agree. I got the base model, core 2, 2gb (I'm going to order more soon), 160 HD for $599. 7 day shipping. When i was looking at the processor options, it said EDD was the 21st. then by the end of the order process it said the 25th. The only thing I changed was the color of the AlienFX...I didn't know that takes 5 days

I am kind of disappointed with the delivery process so far, I hope the machine is enough to make up for it, and not a even larger disappointment. Maybe I'm just selfish and just want the dang thing. I also ordered some HID's for my car, and they got back ordered until the 21st. So I was expecting to get a package this week and one next week. Now it looks like I'll be lucky if they both come next week! I usually have GREAT luck with shipping, and it comes very fast...not this time!

 

We just need to be patient, I figure for the price I got the laptop at, it will be worth the wait. I did notice the dates change as well, but I believe the date during the configuration process is the shipping date, so you have to tack on the 7 day shipping after that date to get your estimated date of delivery.

 

Thats a good point. But, like I said, I just hope this machine is worth it! Waiting. sucks.

 

FYI they don't charge your CC until it ships. They will place a hold or temporary charge at the time of order, but no "official" charge until shipment.

EDIT: Nvm ..50$ coupon dead unless someone has another. I tried 3 different ones and they all failed.

Hey I ordered the M11x R1 , 4GB of RAM on 2/5/11 and the EDD is 2/21/11

It is now 2/16 and it still says its in production.
I have 7 day shipping so idk if its not updating or what but if it still hasn't shipped i don't think there is any way it can come by the 21st....

 

2/8/11 I ordered my M11x R1. It still says "In Production". I called 1-800-ALIENWARE and entered in my order number. The automated thing told me it was in production. I tried to talk to a representative, but they are not there at 11pm CST lol.

 

mine should be in tomorrow! YAY!

 

Seems like longer production times right now.

I called about getting a replacement on Feb 3rd, as my brand new M11x R1 had some build issues. No hassle, they gave me a case number, I had to email for the order number, but as they said, it was placed on the 3rd with an 8 day turnaround, overnight shipping. Then, on the 8th, they CANCELLED that order, and opened a new one. This was odd. Seemed to reset the entire timeline. Annoying, but not a huge deal, my current M11x is working fine, I'll just use it until the new one comes.

I emailed them for a status, they told me it was set to ship on or before the 14th. As of today, the 17th, it's still in production. They DO call me every few days to tell me it's in production.

Not sure what is up right now, especially since mine was supposed to be 'rush' order as it was a replacement.

Thats good they are sending you a replacement though. Although the customer support is kind of shady (website not updating, or changing), they follow through and send you a whole new laptop. +1 for Dell/Alienware

Just called on mine, still says "shipping preparation". It's been on that stage for 3 days now...

 

We'll see when we get it, I am hoping it will be just fine. Although sending me a laptop where I can lift up most of the front end and stick my finger in wasn't cool, or very good QC, really. How does something like that pass inspection?

As long as the replacement is fine, I'll be very happy. I love this little computer.

 

I am starting to second guess my order. Even though it's $703 after tax for an i5/8GB/320GB/BT M11x new...I just have this feeling that R3 is around the corner. The way I rationalized purchasing with that "unknown" is that I could probably eBay this guy for a good chunk of my original investment.

My plan was to go with the Y470 in my sig. but a revised M11x with a newer GPU would be so sweet.

 

I wouldn't second guess. That computer will be blazing fast! With the battery life, it is second to none. If you wait and get the R3 then you will just second guess whether you would have been better getting the R4 .

 

OK, Dell automated line states that it has shipped, but the web-site still says it's in production!!! I am hoping that the Automated phone line is more up to date.

Yeah. It also helps that I just checked eBay and M11x i5's are still fetching decent coin. This one just started and it already has a $599 bid and it has less bling than mine: eBay auction.

I just want a damn laptop. Wish it would ship so I could stop second guessing.

 

I ordered m11x with i5 on 2/11

ESD was 2/22 with delivery on 2/25

the automated line says it shipped on 2/22.

I wonder if because these are Alienware and not in the regular dell production line, the updates between them and dell automated system are a little out of whack. The system could have shipped, but not sent the full shipping information to dell yet, so the automated line only knows that it shipped and gives the expected shipping day automatically. Maybe later today or tonight it will update with full info?

 

Very interesting. I have a similar scenario. I ordered my m11x on 2/12 in the early AM. When calling Order Support phone line (automated), I also say that it was shipped on 2/22 and the expected delivery date is 2/25.

When I called them yesterday to see about changing the CPU in my order, the rep had told me that the computer was in the final stages of production being ready to ship out, so no changes could be made.

I am a bit confused by all of this. Especially after hearing people report that their order status had changed to shipped, and received it that same day, with no updates in their tracking until it was out for delivery.

There is always someone at my home to receive the package, so I'm not overly concerned when it is delivered. The disparity between all the order status information is making the buyer experience a little weird.

 

Man, I just had a fun hour on the phone. Nobody on the other end was rude or anything, but man they can be pushy with their scripted responses.

Called looking for an update, got someone who said there was a glitch, it's been built but never made it to shipping. Told me he'd open a ticket and someone would call me in 3-5 days. This went on is some kind of weird loop until I said thank you and hung up.

Since I was supposed to get it over a week ago, this annoyed me so I called back, and got someone who said it was still in production, wasn't sure what was going on, someone will call me in 3-5 days. I told her no, I want someone right now, and she proceeded to ask me to wait 3-5 days SIX HUNDRED TIMES. No, I want a manager. She does not really want to send me to one, and as a consumer herself, she understands my frustration, and asks me to wait 3-5 days. I say no. She transfers me.

What ever the opposite of enjoying on-hold music is, I did that for 15 mins or so.

Got a manager. He apologized and I offered to tell him my story from the beginning. He said he had it, and he JUST got an update on my order - it's just been sent to shipping and will go out in the next 24 hours. I have no idea if this was a weird coincidence or not. So now I'll wait until Monday (it's set to ship overnight) and see what happens. If I don't get it then, I am really going to start being annoyed.

I've never had this kind of issue with Dell. To recap:

Got defective laptop for gift.
Called it in on the 3rd.
Was promised replacement in 8 days.
8 days go by, order in cancelled due to mysterious 'glitch'.
New order is opened.
8 days go by, nothing. Am told it ships on or before the 14th.
Call today, the mysterious 'glitch' shows up again. Often.
Am promised it will ship in 24 hours.

Wheeee.

Edit: As of 1:38, my status on the website has changed to shipped, but no shipping info yet.
Edit Edit: Got a tracking number, will be delivered tomorrow.

 

It's looking like me, Dell/Alienware's shipping is hit or miss. Some people get them a week before their EDD, some people don't. I expected slow shipping due to the sale, and the large quantities of orders. But it took 3 days to build, and 3 days to prep for delivery. I was expecting a little faster, as we all were. Orders placed on the 8th are going out, so mine should be going out soon, hopefully tomorrow

But hey, for the price I paid and the performance I've read about these machines. Totally worth it! I just want to play some league of legends haha!

 

WOOT!!! Mine has now shipped and has a tracking number!! I will have mine tomorrow!! Now I just have to convice my wife to stay home and wait for it ....I am screwed!!

 

Maybe a case of the Friday Flu eh? j/k, you need to work to pay for the laptop!

My online status still says "In Production", but I just got off the phone with Alienware. My laptop is complete and is ready to be shipped. They are expecting it to be here on the 22nd or 23rd of this month

Which is awesome since I'm lanning with a friend that weekend!

 

I ordered my R1 on the 7th, just got it today (the 17th). Original EDD was the 21st. so far, I'm loving this little machine. I'll post more extensive first impressions later tonight, or tomorrow. Glad to be a part of the club! I've wanted one of these for a year now, and am happy I finally have it in my hands.

 

My EDD date was 2/23, but it shipped today and tracking says that it will deliver on the 18th. Shipping out of GA for some reason. I thought they shipped out of Nashville, TN or TX?? Oh well only 24 more hours. Will be a LONG day of work tomorrow.

 

I ordered my m11x r1 on the 6th with still no progress =( its been in production for two weeks now. Really taking their time with mine, especially since all i did was upgrade to 4 gb ram and thats it. The EDD is the 21st which i find hard to believe with no progress thus far

 

I have read through about 80 pages of this thread and it looks like most make it from order through production in about 5-7 days....surprising it is taking so long! Have you called customer service?

 

Same thing with me except I called the automated system and it said it was being prepared for shipping and my EDD is the 21 st so I don't know when to expect mine

 

Placed order 02/11/2011 ETD 02/25/2011 status in production since 11th almost a week now. Today I contact support and he told me that mine is in the final process and it should be ship before or 22th Feb. I can't wait I wish it will be here sooner, I was dreaming about Alienware for 8 years

mine just updated today and i am receiving mine tmrw morning. Dell support has no idea what is really going on with your laptop. i called today and they said it was in the last stage of production and it just updated that its shipped and when i went to it, it was shipped 3 days ago! gotta admit im very excited though! =) yay for Dell not knowing. It made for a great surprise!

 

Check your status. I bet it changed tonight. you should probably be receiving it tmrw =)

Ordered my new m11x 2/11/11. It shipped yesterday and will arrive today 2/18/11. Can't wait to get home from work and slap an SSD into it. Core i7, 8gb, intel G2 80gb... Going to have fun tonight as long as it doesn't come with any defects.

 

it'll be good! i have a few games and a few 720p videos on it already and it's a treat!

 

My order from 2/14 is still "In Production" - due 2/24 so it's not much longer. My refurb that I returned was picked up yesterday. I highly recommend using twitter to contact @DellCares for any issues you have - very responsive and it's super easy. They setup the return of my refurb for me. Much better than their phone support!

 

That would have been nice to know before I spent 4 phone calls attempting to get someone in Dell's "return department." The RMA was eventually approved, but it was the proverbial pulling of teeth.

 

Just called. My order from 2/11 is still in "delivery preparation". EDD of the 25th, I got free 7 day shipping, so it should be shipped today to make my EDD. Day 4 of putting a box in a box

 

Doh! So are you completely out of the Alienware game for now? Waiting for an SB option to flesh out?
