Wow, never knew that before. A little late now, but I have all my systems running ultimate so I'm use to it.
Also just ordered 8GB RAM from Crucial; at least that is a valid upgrade that will make it run a little smoother for the heavier loads.
-
-
Not really, I struggle to use more than 4GB RAM on my Clevo and that is with 0 pagefiling and a ton of stuff running including Battlefield 3.
Your biggest most major and important upgrade for any model is going to be an SSD which as the M11x can support SATA III will boost the boot and responsiveness by 10 times over, not to mention getting rid of the mechanical noise.
7200RPM 750GB
SATA III SSD 256GB
-
I have come to the realization that if my wife ever leaves me, it will be for clicking Refresh on the FedEx website while waiting for my computer.
-
I dont think you will be waiting long. I ordered mine last Tuesday night and it was out for despatch by the Friday only 3 working days.
The problem is it is coming from China so it depends how quickly they ship it to you by FEDEX. Mine was here today however
well chuffed and well worth the wait its as amazing as you expect it to be.
Hopefully it can go straight east otherwise it will have to go a long way west haha! -
Well mine's a refurb. I've ordered at least one refurb from the Outlet per year for the last 4 years or so, and it seems to always take 5.
-
Besides gaming, I'll also be using LR and CS5, so the extra RAM is needed.
-
Okay, LR? Liberty Reserve? Library Resource? Line Resurgence? Lulu Rara?
-
I think he was referring to ''LOOK, RAM''
An SSD is going to be so so vital homank and as you live in Korea you could probably get a magic price on one being so close to China.
I currently boot my M11x in 16 seconds with my SATA II SSD which runs at less than half my new M4 that should arrive tomorrow it is going to be bombshell fast. -
Hahahaha...
Sorry, LR = Lightroom, a program used for editing photos.
@ Yiddo, one would think SSD's would be cheaper here, but actually they are more expensive due to the VAT they have in place on electronics. -
xkcd: Online Package Tracking
That's about right. Except I really DO want the package. -
Looked on UK Dell Outlet like 20 mins ago.
Saw a M11x R3 refurb there, for £550, my hand over took my brain and clicked on buy button.
Alienware M11x R3

750 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
2 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)
Wireless: Intel Wireless-N 1000 Card
Certified Refurbished
This thing is going to be in my hands, can't wait!
I have a bunch of 4/8GB RAM sets lying around, so RAM isn't a problem here, the only issue I may have is the wireless card, I dunno how good it is, I'm hoping to buy 6200 or Killer separately, anyone know where I can get these? I checked on Dell and they don't seem to have it.
Definitely buying a 120GB SSD and use the 750GB HDD it comes with as an external. -
Nice find! Did you have the 15% off coupon, or is that only USA?
-
No coupon, I can't seem to find any for this model, and the ones I've tried are either invalid or expired.
I won't be getting this M11x after all ): Had few issues with the order and the bank, ended up having to cancel it.
I still plan to get M11x, it's a matter of when.
I played around a bit with M11x's configuration page, and noticed that 128GB SSD upgrade is only £15. (Dell UK) if it's really £15, I'll probably go ahead, at least it's brand new and I get to experience Alienware box unpacking. -
Dont buy that whatever you do that is not an SSD that you are talking about it is a Mobility Drive and its far slower and highly suspectable to failure as it is old technology hence the price.
You would do really well to pick up that Dell Outlet model I just paid out £699,99 new exactly the same model just with 4GB RAM and a Killer card so that is a bargain. The deal that I got sadly expired in the UK on the 25th March and is no longer available but you can get the same deal for £729.00 here. -
"On FedEx vehicle for delivery"!!!!
If they try to deliver before my wife gets off work, I'm gonna be ticked. -
They are damn efficient too mine said evening delivery and it arrived lunchtime at my work.
Nice upgrade from the R1 your gonna have there
I processor FTW.

I only payed $891.44 shipped! Excited to get my hands on an R3. I had an i5 R2, but I sold it when I bought my XPS17. -
Nice. That's a tremendous amount of HD space! Are you sticking with it or switching to a smaller, faster drive? I switched to the Momentus XT and was pleased.
It's always fun to get a refurb because it's kind of like scratching off lottery tickets to see if you got bluetooth (I didn't) or Killer Wireless (I did).
Curious: Did you get the 15% off? -
I have a 750gb WD Black and a 128gb Crucial M4, one of which will be replacing the slow 1tb drive. Yes, I used the 15% off coupon. I sure hope it has bluetooth, and I assume it will since it's a fairly high-end build.
-
Very nice indeed and a guilty pleasure to take the I7 at that price golly I wish I had US prices but with UK women
You really want an SSD in that bad boy but your WD Black would do just fine I found my stock 7200RPM to handle this baby fine the Crucial M4 destroys it but you really want to keep your SSD in your main notebook and pair it with that 1TB slow boy for the much need ''cough'' man material
-
Actually, I have the XPS sold already and the m11x will be my main machine and that's why I may put the 750gb drive in. It ended up costing me about $100 more to upgrade from the i5 and 6gb of RAM to the i7 and 8gb of RAM. Who could pass that up?
-
Bargain upgrade and well worth it for that price. If it is your main go SSD for sure it really makes this thing as nippy as a desktop replacement, I was shocked how fast the processor is coming from an Intel Atom.
-
Doublecheck your invoice. I figured mine would have BT (who orders the Killer Wifi but doesn't spring for BT?) but I was wrong. Now I'm using a Rocketfish BT stick that I can't plug in until Windows has finished loading or it won't POST.
-
It turns out the guy buying my XPS wants the 750gb drive. Either I'll just sell the 1tb drive or I'll also sell my 128gb M4 and buy a 256gb M4.
The invoice doesn't list it, but if it doesn't have it I'll just pick up an Intel 6230 wifi card on Amazon for $25 as they have built in bluetooth with drivers that actually work. -
That is strange yours didnt come with the BT module it is really easy to disassemble this model so if you ordered one you could quite easily attach it.
If the bloke wants the 750GB for sure stick in the M4 and sell up the 1GB. -
I recently ordered my M11x from Dell. I called up a rep and haggled on the final price. This is what I got for $1200 tax in.
i7 with 2 GB GT540, 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB SSD. The rest was stock. -
Going crazy here... Still in production.... Gaaahhh!
-
Just basic warranty?
-
When you buy it, get the advanced complete care warranty. It's only an extra $49, but you're covered for absolutely any accidental damage.
-
Agreed, warranties are well worth the purchase for something that you'll carry around a lot, or like me you have small kids you can't always keep your eyes on.

It just shipped!!
Delivered yesterday, expect in on the 18th!!
I don't know why they would ship the sleeve that came with it and the laptop separately, but who cares! My m11x is coming!!
EDIT: It delivered!! I'm so surprised! It took one day! So from order on the 6th, it made it here on the 14th using FEDEX. Too bad I can't pick it up until Monday, since UPS doesn't open until then, will report back!
Too excited.. -
Arrived at 1645L
V nice bit of kit, pity on opening the box the l found the second headphone jack damaged
Appart from that can't complain she looks good and once a set of headphones is fitted you can't see the damage and it still work
So as they say in my line of work "She'll do a trip".
ttfn
-
I'm jealous!!! Although I wouldn't be at all happy if mine was damaged at all!
-
Support request placed with dell awaiting reply
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Congrats on the new system
-
Damn that aint good. It is an easy replacement during a disassembly but they might require a tech to come out to fit it for you.
-
Aye Yiddo, will see what dell come back with, just backing up now onto USB for fitting the SSD and ram
While keeping my 18 mnth old daughter happy
-
That must be so frustrating! Waiting all that time and then possibly having to repair it or send it back or wait for someone to come to you. What happens if you live in the middle of nowhere like me?
-
Well the North of Scotland is a little remote for some
No real shakes will see what happens, to be fair this is only my second outing with Dell, had a XPS 15 501x previously and have had no dramas, in fact after using the internet for shopping for the past 10+ years this is the first real hiccup and even then it is not a show stopper.
-
No true, let's hope they sort it quick. Out of interest what are you specs and when did you order? And what was your estimated delivery date? I'm trying to guestimate when mine will arrive!

Ah didn't know you were in the UK I wouldn't worry Dell were offering to send someone out next day for me in the UK and in the end just sent me the keyboard instead for me to fit.
-
Sweet good to know Yiddo dude.
-
(Manic laugh) muhmuhmuhmuhMUHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAaaaaaaa!!!!1111 to even think l considered an ultra book
This thing is sweeeeeeeet! looks nice in blue
And a lot less/if any bloatware compared to my Asus! -
I very almost flipped when I read you ordered it on the 9th and received today, in 8 days total. I ordered on the 10th and am currently still in pre-production. Then I saw your's was a certified refurbishment. What sort of warranty did you get with it being a refurb? The same?
-
Aye the normal 1 year warranty, you can add at the checkout as it where, however l opted not to do so.
-
So, those of you who are awaiting delivery are you keeping it or returning it as it appears m11x is now being dropped by alienware? I ordered one last month but returned it as the screen was terrible, shame really as the rest was fine.
-
More reason to get it as the price is low and soon it wont be able to get brand new with a warranty if you want one its best to get it now as they will soon just be on the Dell Outlet with only a 1 year warranty.
The screen can be tricky depending on what you use it for but I am very glad that I got mine and the fact it is not being made anymore makes it better for me when I want to sell it because there wont be a better revision of M11x competing with it. -
