OUT IN THE US!

Oh nice, I'm going to buy one once they come onto the NZ site
The i5/i7 one is a little more expensive than the Core 2 one though... -
I'm buying through NZ as well...
Just got off the phone with Dell NZ, said they won't be able to quote an order until Fri, and that the website will update somewhere in between 9-11 Jun. -
on the us-site theres a
Preliminary Ship Date: 7/2/2010...not that soon...;-( -
For the laptop color option there is a "Soft Touch Stealth Black", is that any better than the normal black?
-
1050 for 7200rpm drive and 4gb of ram on the i5. At least the soft touch is free. Im not sure if its worth so much more :-/
The same setup with the su4100 was like 879
-
Are there any coupons available right now (and does the 10 percent off for epp apply to the R2) ?
-
-
-
Coupons you say???
-
Hmmm, it says Core 2 starting at $799, but it actually starts at $899, no SU4100 available. I'm surprised they haven't dropped the price of the Core 2 models by $100.
Either way similar equipped machines:
Core 2 Duo SU7300 $1031 / Core i5-520um $1094
320GB 7200RPM HDD
4GB RAM
Bluetooth
Interesting it also says "overclockable" under the CPU option for core i5.
They aren't going to sell many Core 2 versions at that price... -
Any word on whether R1 owners will be able to upgrade to an i5?
What kind of performance boost is there from R1 to R2 anyway? -
They got rid of the su4100 option on the US website. The base C2D option is 899. Not the 799 it says on the site.

Hope this helps!!! -
I'm curious about performance difference as well, not necessarily benchmarks, but gaming performance. How much FPS boost will it really offer?
Not that I'm getting the R2 M11x, just curious. -
yay it is available! i am glad i have a university epp
-
i will just have to decide whether to get the i5 or i7
-
For reference, the soft-touch is a cool rubbery finish like the M17 (check some youtube videos to get an idea). I am glad it doesn't cost extra. I'll probably be ordering an i5 with soft-touch later today when I'm not busy.
-
-
The r1 got easily scratched with the plastic.
-
So now the question is...
what to get? The core i5 or the core i7?
How much performance increase will one see? -
and no optimus with core i7
does this mean worse battery? nvidia driver support? -
I read it was 8.5 hours nowMaybe i5 and i7s are really worth it
-
So the verdict, does the i7 have optimus or is it just with the i5?
-
I'm also guessing that the Core-i CPU will be soldered into the Motherboard of the M11x R2 as well. -
oh and coupon for 100 off doesnt work..
-
-
neither does the 50 off..
-
Still no Optimus?
Guess they would have advertised that.
-
I don't see a Core i3 330UM version. $949 for the Core i5 isn't that bad but I'll hold out for a better deal on it.
-
I've just ordered the i5 cause the little differenz doesnt justify the 200 EUR
in my little opinion...
Notebookcheck: Review Intel Core i3/i5/i7 Processors ?Arrandale? -
The coupons are for EPP and since it's not on that site yet you gotta wait, or call.
-
Has anyone successfully ordered one with the EPP and coupon via phone? I'm waiting to pull the trigger until I can get that extra 150-200 off.
-
If you qualify for EPP, then you can call in, than use the coupon and that's at least $150-$200 off.

and not to forget the i5: "... Overclockable Intel® CoreTM i5 520UM processor
# 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M graphics card (performance) & integrated Intel®graphics (battery life) — graphics switched automatically with NVIDIA® OptimusTM technology..." -
EPP is confusing though. When I bought my M11x, I don't think I'd qualify for EPP, but through a link on their site, it asked you fill your info, then it had a link to click through even if you didn't complete the info, which I didn't, and gave me the discount anyhow, lol.
I'm really surprised that Dell didn't issue pre-release notebooks to a few sites to review. Just pops up with no press reviews. -
For EPP just call, it' really is easiest and tell them what company you or a family member work for and they will look it up. Well, I guess I overlooked the optimus issue. Didn't pay much attention.

WHATS WITH THIS COMMOTION?
WHATS WITH THIS OH AND AH?
hehehe REFRESH is now here for those who will be drooling more for our m11x...
thanks alienware guys for making this happen soon... hehehe
you guys keeps us drooling for more.... -
I held off on ordering a Core 2 system yesterday at $899. Looks like the price on the lower end models went up by $100 when the R2 was put up. That would explain why half the site says "Starting at $799" when the low price is $100 higher.
I'm waiting to see if the EPP link goes up today since I am at work and can't call out. If it doesn't show before 5 EST I'll make the call and let you guys know what the damage is.
EDIT: Looks like the site has been updated again. The Core 2 is the only option on the R1 now and it's back to $899 instead of $999. -
Alienware Landing
I'm going to see where i saw the 8.5 hours -
i read they're removed the vga port - can anyone confirm this? if so, thus obviously dashes all hope of an easy motherboard change. but then again, hopefully it means they fixed the hinge issue, to, if they had the time to block up an extra hole.
and also that it's not got a magnesium top and bottom plate
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2364763,00.asp -
Also, if they do; do you guys think removing the magnesium in favor of the soft touch is worth it? -
I would be surprised if they replaced it with plastic. PGmag is just referring to the known plastic parts in the M11x compared the M15x and M17x imo, not the magnesium parts now being hard plastic.
and no, I would not think it's worth it. Plastic will soak up oil and wear more overtime than magnesium will. It's also easier to crack. -
EDIT: reading it wrong. i made the assumption from this: hopefully i'm wrong
-
Dell from Brasil is really crazy, they announced a new model of m11x worldwild ... and the old one is now more expensive than before ... $100 more
-
I highly doubt they'll go through the trouble to redesign and mess with the chassis on the updated version.
