The new black color is the soft touch finish, it has a rubbery feel and doesn't attract fingerprints (feels vnice!)

I suppose it can support it if you choose the i7 processor, for the rest it will just downclock to the speed the processor can process at. If you are asking whether it will be available to configure, i doubt it.

If you are in a hurry to buy it, call them and tell them you are using the EPP discount and haggle with the rep, you might decrease the price significantly

That depends on the rubberized finish. I've seen ThinkPads with the rubberized finish covered with fingerprints, and it's hard to get it off. What's worse is it gets scratched just running your fingernails on it, though some of it you can rub off with your fingertip.

That said, I'll probably go for it myself. The shiny black plastic looks and feels kind of cheap. I was going to go for the silver because of that.

The RAM comes downclocked to improve battery life. However I do believe that all the m11x's come with the 1333 RAM. Some site just advertise the 1333 because it's a bigger number, even if its running at a slower speed.

I think a better question might be "Is the RAM locked at 800mhz?"

thanks for the tip codebreaker but im in no hurry, im still thinking about my next 13" or smaller mobile replacement. I had a macbook unibody but just didnt like it as I used windows on it 98% of the time. Now i have a studio xps 13 that just freezes, the new m11x is tempting as it can actually reach speeds of 2.26 now, but i was hoping dell would maybe show some teasers of the new studio xps 13. Either that or I might possibly consider the sony z series.

i think i made a good choice getting the old one last month, cause a bet the new will be so expensive here in Brasil. the old one with C2D.4GB.500GB cost me $ 2.050 US here ... cause Dell imports it from USA and we need to pay the taxes. i can imagine how much will be the new one ! the Studio 14 series here with C2D starts at $900 with i3 starts at $1.500.

Out of speculation I'm going to say yes to this. Looking at the site the only RAM offered is 800MHz. We all know that it will ship with 1066MHz RAM, but my guess is it's downclocked just the same as the R1.

I'm fairly sure the new ULV Core iX CPU's only support DDR3 at 800MHz. It would require memory overclocking capability through the BIOS (unlikely) to run the memory faster. They are most likely shipping the M11xR2 with 1333MHz DDR3 as usually it's cheaper to buy newer faster RAM than source and buy slower older RAM. They also use this speed RAM (IIRC) with the M15x and M17x so Dell probably buy it in bulk and save - hence the reason why it's used in the M11xR2.

But don't be fooled by the speed ratings on the website, the RAM may very well be 1333MHz, but it doesn't mean it will run at 1333MHz. Just like the R1, all R1's shipped with 1066MHz DDR3 but due to the memory configuration (memory divider) it always ran at 800MHz.

I have the i3-330 (2.xghz) in my Acer work laptop. No noticeable advantage in performance over the M11x in regular tasks but it has 2G-RAM vs 4 in the m11x.

I use the Acer during the day and my m11x when home... sometimes for the same tasks. What I have NOT done on the Acer is encode some video. Thats something I do on occasion but not lately.

For 3dmark the Acer has the 310M so no shock that it performed way lower.

I think with the R2, they're going to ship 1333MHz RAM instead of the 1066MHz RAM shipped with the R1. I saw earlier that Dell Malaysia lists 1333MHz RAM:

But it's not going to matter anyway, as it seems it's going to run at 800MHz regardless!

Same issue in Malaysia. At 4,000ish its definitely not a light purchase. Those in the US could imagine what this is like if you suddenly were paying 4K for your systems. :) This is because the wages earned are comparable by UNITS but not in buying power. Anyway, my guess is to get similar i7 as USA site it will be nearly another 1K MYR for the system as just using exchange rate puts it at MYR4600. Likely end up at 5K and the wife would never approve!

Not that I would turn down an i7 though. :)

Well you'd atleast expect stronger hinges, dell can't be making profit if they have to replace their units all the time. Since they also introduced a new soft finish I actually have good hopes.
Can't wait to see the first user reports about this m11x, it may be expensive but if the i7 will be able to give 5+ hours of battery life with its power, I doubt i'll want anything else.

You wont get any alienware discount codes in the UK but dell do sometimes put the m11x on a deal on the website. I got my m11x when it was £749 with tactx mouse, su7400 and 320gb hdd. I then used epp for 10% off (would have used quidco but it takes ages to get the money back epp is instant)

Also trying to decide if the new cpu's will be able to handle BFBC2 as my m11x gets between 15-22fps in multiplayer.

    Looking at the i5 I see it is 1 core @ 1.86ghz, 2core @ 1.6ghz and idle is 1.06
    The i7 is 1 core @ 2.26ghz 2 cores @ 1.86ghz and idle at 1.2ghz

I reckon the overclock will be a base clock of 155 so that would make the:
    i5 = 1 core @ 2.17ghz, 2core @ 1.86ghz and idle of 1.24
    i7 = 1 core @ 2.63ghz, 2 core @ 2.17ghz and idle of 1.4ghz

    What do you guys think?

I think this is very accurate, on the malaysian site it states that the i7 is capable of going up 2.66 with turbo boost and overclocking. So since you were correct on that, then I'm sure the other numbers a good as well.

Wow! They changed the site already. Nevermind above post.... Dell Malaysia now show all sorts of options. With i7 is MYR4670 or roughly 600 more for the same system (but without DVD drive mine was bundled with). Would I have done it? Probably. Whats done is done though!

The motherboard is different, so you won't be able to swap them out. VGA has been replaced with display port and the HDMI, left side USB and LAN port have all moved. No swaps into an R1.

i hate when usb ports are all located on the same side :( manufacturers always put them so darn close together, meaning with large usb devices (3g modem comes to mind) very often one port is blocked, unless you use an adapter.

does it still retain the standby charging feature?

Ordered one with EPP at 6% so an i7 with 2GB, 250GB HDD, Bluetooth comes in at £1005.91 in UK. Just ordered one

Just need to sell my R1 SU7300 with 2GB RAM & 320GB HDD now. Already have 4GB RAM & Intel SSD to swap into the new one. My M11X R1 spec is still selling at £836 in UK before discounts and I got mine for around £720 so hopefully not too big a loss upgrading.

For those in UK don't delay too long as VAT is likley to go up in next week or 2 if rumors about financial cut backs ar correct!!

I am really tempted to do the same. I expect you could probably get between 500-600 for your old one.
It just a pity that epp and quidco dont stack :( why is everything so expensive in the UK!

At the moment I am trying to decide between this and an envy 14, I like the idea of the 350nit screen on the envy but that extra couple of inches will really hurt ;)

Still going for over £700 on ebay!! Some people think nothing of dropping £300 on a new desktop GPU so I'm justifying it to myself like that :D

Not expecting a major jump in gaming but CPU stuff should be much quicker.

LOL - after moving and digging fence post holes, re-installing Windows if one of my least favorite things. Good luck. There are hardware differences for Optimus to work, but given the expertise on the forums, I guess anything might be possible, but I seriously doubt it.... :)
