When it comes to games and benchmarks I think it is of concern that no other programs use up CPU unnecessarily, or even take it away from the programs you want running fast.
I have found a problem that WmiPrvSE.exe constatly uses up 8-12% CPU (and I do not seem to be the only one having it), causing the fan to run more freqently than really necessary, resulting in shorter battery life and may even result in decreased gaming performance.

Are you guys keeping the stock gpu drivers? Or modding newer nvidia drivers like the hardware heaven review did?

I will use the stock drivers unless I run into troubles with them. I find a feature missing or something else i can't get with stock drivers, I will move to customized ones if they at that time work on both intel integrated and nvidia dedicated graphics (and switching between them is possible)

Whoa...is it normal for there to be variations of over 350 points? I have the exact same system and ran a 6336.

N/M, that is an OC'd GPU.

welp, my main tests was using it to install a buttload of my Steam backed up games from ext HDD to SSD and that went by VERY fast. 9GB games took about 4 min to xfer over. My steam library was ready very fast. Just putting all my customizations on the computer, installing benchmark software and personal software before I plan to game on it =)

    Hello All

First time poster ... and maybe I should post this in the owners thread but I'm receiving an error when trying to start / run 3DMark Vantage.

First I start up 3DMark Vantage and Windows automatically changes the color scheme to Windows 7 Basic.

If I then try and run a benchmark it's telling me that the required resolution of 1280 x 1024 is not supported.

I haven't done any oc'ing or anything like that yet. I've only installed a few games thru Steam and then also Batman:AA. I've also installed Avast and Comodo.

I can bring up the Nvidia Control Panel and I do have PhysX enabled . . .

I'm really puzzled about this and hoping there is nothing wrong. . .

Thanks for any any all help / suggestions . . and if this should be in the owners thread - I'll be happy to move it there.

    Thanks!

    Farson

Change the settings, in 3DMark Vantage, the screen doesn't support that high of a resolution unless you plug in an external monitor I bellieve. The problem with Vantage is that you can only run it once unless you have a validation code. If you download 3DMark06, you can run that as many times as you want. Using the validation codes allows you to change differant settings and such. It's $20 for each product.

You have to hook it up to an external display for Vantage. 06 runs fine though.

Thanks for the replies!! . . I didn't realize that about Vantage and I hadn't read that in any of the threads. And I've been lurking for the last 3 weeks . . lol.

Can't really overclock insanely, the laptop just crashes or give artifacts. I just find a sweetspot and go with it. I just have the machine boot to windows and leave it then. The memory settings harm nothing, the memory just handles it or wont. So there is no real danger involved.

Just did the GTA4 benchmark on default suggested settings. not lookin good. I'm gunna try and turn down some settings to get a playable framerate.
I think what gta4 does for default settings is just observe how much vram you have and then suggest the settings according to that. 1gb is quite a bit of vram so it sets everything to high.
GTA 4 all high - avg 20.23 fps
    http://i47.tinypic.com/23t59o9.jpg
    http://i49.tinypic.com/2s8fuq8.jpg
    http://i47.tinypic.com/nxvsp1.jpg

edit: scratch that. gta4 is unplayable no matter what you set the settings to. turn all the distances down you still get less than 20 fps. gta4 is just too much cpu for the su7300
    btw im always oc'd

I put together a nice comparison of three systems the ASUS 1201N, Dell XPS M1210 and the M11X (oc 1.6Ghz).

    3DMark 06

    Asus 1201N (nvidia ION)
    3DMark 1582
    SM 2.0 Score: 605
    SM 3.0 Score: 626
    CUP Score: 756

    Dell XPS M1210 (nvidia 7400GS)
    3DMark 943
    SM 2.0 Score 365
    SM 3.0 Score 296
    CPU Score 1901

    M11X (nvidia 335)
    3DMark 6415
    SM 2.0 Score : 2987
    SM 3.0 Score: 3004
    CPU Score: 1415

I think if the M11x can get to 1.73Ghz we will see 6600+ and a CPU score of 1500+. The current CPU score of 1415 is not bad seeing as my XPS M1210 is running a 2.16Ghz core 2 and has 4MB L2 cache. That is only a 486 point difference and that will be less once the M11x can hit 1.73Ghz.

I have posted multiple warnings in the Benchmark thread about OT posts.

The reason why I am being so strict with this is simple, if left unchecked we will have a thread filled with OT posts and benchmarks will become lost.

We have a dedicated thread in Side Topics to discuss gaming on the M11x. I suggest you use it.

See my post here if you have any questions on what is permitted in the M11x Benchmarks Thread.

    Any questions, PM me.

    Thanks.

I wanted to know how the benchmarks with the M11x would compare to the upcoming refresh of the Macbook Pro or Macbook Air with the Optimus platform using the ION 2 gpu chipset? Of course I am just speculating about Apple; however it makes sense that the 13" laptops will go to something like this. I understand that the ION 2 will be able to do a decent resolution (720p) and keep battery life solid. Would the M11x still smoke Apple upcoming revisions? Thanks!

Edited post. Not having problems with MAME anymore and to right my wrong, posting here too:

I am not sure what has happened, but I am not having the problem with MAME playing slower now. Very weird:

    1. MAME plays just as fast or faster now than a 1.3 clocked SU7300 (as it should)- do not know why I had problems.

    2. NullDC plays SMOKING fast! Dead or Alive 2 and Soul Calibur seem like they designed for the M11x. I played in higher res window mode too

    3. PCSX2 plays a LOT of games well (Directx10 hardware mode)
    1. NSF2
    2. Bloody Roar 4
    3. KOF 2006
    4. Every shooter I threw at it, including Raiden 3! WOW!!!!
    5. All of the 2D fighters I tried (only three so far, but MAME has them anyways).

    4. PS1... Another that seems designed for the M11x- all played perfectly.

Games like Soul Calibur and Blitz League were slow, but they are not much better on my Q8200 and highend Nvidia card.

Call me impressed fo a device this size doing this well!

Stalker Call Of Pripyat Benchmark's real well
    Preset settings to Extreme
    Lighting at static
    Native rez no AA
    http://i49.tinypic.com/uxap0.png
Edit: when i changed the lighting to MAX "enhan. full dyn. lighting (dx10)" still kept a good avg until it did the sunshafts benchmark where it got an avg of 10fps. keep in mind this is stalker call of pripyat all setting all the way up.

The Ion 2 was recently tested and it completely sucks. It actually tested slower than the Ion 1, which is complete fail. For comparison the M11X is a minimum 3 times faster.

Alright here's my first 3DMark06 score using DOX drivers 195.62
6259 and only CPU BIOS OC (on all runs and benches here). Not bad would've liked to hit 6300 but I know DOX drivers aren't best for benchmarking so I'll be running Crysis benchmark here next.

Crysis benchmark, same settings as previous user that did it. 1280x720 all medium settings Average of 3 runs was 30.3 FPS, yay I guess maybe the DOX drivers do help so who knows.

Street Fighter IV benchmark set at 1366x768 full screen, No AA, no Vynch, Everything else on and HIGH except last option which was off (dunno what it was). Got an A
Oh, I was OC'd to 1.6 though, I guess the benchmark couldn't read that.
    *updated with images*

Resident Evil V I had to run on DirectX 9 since I guess I don't have DX10 installed haha. Anyway 1360x768, all high, motion blur on, No AA - Variable benchmark test B 36.2 FPS; hoping it was b/c DX9c being used and not DX10 dunno.

Stalker Call of Pripyat long benchmark.. anyway Extreme settings with "Enhan. full dyn. lighting (DX10) on, native res, everything in advanced left default. Picture shows bench, Day: avg 34.1, Night 31.6, Rain 34.4 Sunshafts ?

Did some interesting benchmarks in Dirt 2 using the built in benchmark.

    This is what I got.

    CPU GPU
    average min_fps="26.285797" av_fps="33.091488" OC OC
average min_fps="25.465815" av_fps="30.532990" OC NO OC
average min_fps="19.720201" av_fps="25.856722" NO OC NO OC
average min_fps="19.207432" av_fps="26.435486" NO OC OC

    GPU OC'd at core - 560 shader - 1380 memory - 880

Native. No AA. Most settings at med - particles at high.

    1.3ghz deff bottlenecks the 335m.

Also max temps for CPU was 50C and GPU was 56C. Amazing cooling in this little machine.

Since you are talking about comparing the M11x to an 'upcoming' refresh of the MBP, this isn't possible. This also does not belong here in this thread. Feel free to post this in Side Topics or in the Mac Forum if you dare ;)

    Hi,

Just thought I would post my latest bench, its with 3DMark 06, my M11x has the SU7300 CPU and 4GB mem plus a 128GB SSD.

    3DMark 06 Score of 6931

Used for testing and OCing ATI Tool, EVGA Precision, Nvidia System Tools 6.05

The M11x runs a stable and solid at this speed, played Star Trek Online for a few hours without issue, with more effort tweaking I think 7k can be hit, and be stable.

    Cheers

Starcraft II beta offline single player some unofficial benchmarks via fraps. Recorded for two minutes, first on ultra settings and ultra textures native resolution with about 42/42 units all in the original base area, just building and harvesting, no battles but granted ~30 units on screen I averaged 30.3 FPS, dropped to 25ish and even to 20s at times when moving screen around base with about 20 probes when I hovered solely over the main base with all the probes (I was protoss). I would not have known this though, always played smooth.

Then I changed the settings (same game) over to graphical details high, and the textures were on ultra and my FPS bumped up quite a bit even though it basically looks the same to me, probably b/c the small screen - which btw was not bothersome or annoying in the least bit. Anyway my avg FPS on 2min benchmark was 41.2, doing the same things hovering over the main base with tons of probes and by this time I had used 53/53 resources units. So yeah I feel like HIGH setting is the way to go with ultra textures is fine since 1GB Vram. Plays super smooth - granted I do have an SSD though.

not sure if it makes a difference, just found out I ran that on my custom power saver mode hahah will have try again

    *new 3Dmark06 bench*
decided to try an GPU OC run here it is 6773
    ---
Company of Heroes the settings were all set to the maximum allowed, on the ones showing high there was no ultra option. Everything turned all the way up, No AA. Picture attached - cut and pasted the results over graphics settings. What's interesting to note is I OC'd the GPU to what it is in the 3DMark06 and only minor increase: avg FPS increased by 2, max +1, min+1 so CPU is bottleneck here.

I'm thinking other than 3dmark06 benches, I won't really need to OC the GPU, it just adds heat, unless I really need it in some first person shooters. Crysis for me, saw NO benefits of an OC'd GPU. Once again CPU bottleneck.

DR650SE - I updated my SFIV benchmark with an image so you can link from page 1.

Can someone please post a video of an overclocked 3DMark06 run?

Seriously. An 100mhz OC increase in core over stock should be   but since the CPU is fairly weak it doesn't translate well. Like you said only 1-2 fps when we should be seeing at least 8-9.

Tux, I'm unfamiliar with the DMC4 Benchmark tool. Does it give any FPS calculations? Minimum, max, average?

Like Resident Evil 5 benchmak it gives an average FPS for 4 scenes and a final Rank, the average would be the sum of all average ;)

Sorry, they only give a final rank and 4 average FPS but no final average FPS :(
