hey guys, here is another run of 3DMark06
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/8576/run5.png
catching up to you DR650SE -
Nice run! Keep it cool, and keep pushing it. Definately closing up the gap.
-
Has anyone benchmarked Crysis with settings all on "medium" with the exception of shaders (and possibly textures) set to high?
I'm curious to see how much the GPU can be cranked up before being held back by the OC'ed SU7300 at the native resolution or 720p for that matter.
72 CUDA cores have to be good for something, right?! -
Check page, one post two
I keep track of everything with screen shots. Just benchmarking results with actual benchmark tools, not FRAPS. Theres some good stuff there, all scores are linked to the screenshots. Just trying to consolidate the scores. Hope it helps. Oh, and welcome to the forum.
-
Thanks for the warm welcome DR650SE.
So I checked out the screen shots in your post and from what I see it looks like the two Crysis runs were set to all medium at 720p. I'm basically interested in seeing if the graphics & resolution can be bumped up any further with minimal impact to framerate since we may be hitting the CPU limit of the SU7300.
This little guy sure reminds me a lot of the game changing Gateway P-6831 FX performance-wise though. Pretty remarkable! -
It's definately a beast. As far as frame rates on a big monitor, the guys in the **M11X Gaming Discussion Thread** might know more. If the CPU is bottle necking the frame rate, then it might have minimal impact on a larger screen. Not a bad question.
-
can anyone have a go with the total wars and see how it is? please?
<3 -
did a new run with the newest nvidia beta drivers via edited ini file thanks to Galdere. 196.86 drivers which only work if switchable gfx is disabled in bios.
The temps seem to be pretty good with these drivers, I'll have to run an OCCT run since I have a previous run with that to compare to. Anyway 3dmark06 6434 with stock GPU, OC CPU and Crysis I did 1 FPS better @31.3 lol.Attached Files:

@DR650SE = Holy snap... "faints" I would love a job like yours.
-
Haha, yea it's awesome. Pays well, not to stressful, and gives me time to game and bench. I just set it up, and run it while I get work done. Lunch time I game. Tommorrow I might do some PC Vantage runs, but they seem to take forever. I've never run it before. If I don't do it by tommorrow, I'll do it Friday.
On a side note, if only we could push this CPU further, we could see some much better scores. -
Or if we get a revision with iX
Or some top secret prototype that AW plans to release in 2012...
Orrr... We can always bring in the big gunz... Liquid Nitrogen. "evil doktor laugh" -
OK guys, not too many SU4100 here, so I decided to post few tests:
Reference (Alienware) drivers, without any OC, without PhysX
Reference (Alienware) drivers, CPU OC 1,73GHz & GPU reference, without PhysX
Reference (Alienware) drivers, CPU OC 1,73GHz & GPU OC 580/1390/880, PhysX on
In fact I didn't tried to get any top score. This OC is enough for me, temps are still low and I feel safe using it.
and additionaly SSD RBX series/Samsung/Dell 128GB
-
kitir, do you have any plans to run any of the in-game benchmarks listed in the OP of this thread? It would be interesting to see if the slight differences between the SU4100 and the SU7300 actually translates to any significant real world differences.
Thank you for sharing your 3DMark06 and HDTune results!
Hope you are enjoying your m11x... I'm still waiting for mine. -
Anybody with a SSD try the new Intel storage drivers? They support TRIM now.
I did, and can't say that I see any performance benefits. Wonder if I'll get power benefits?
With the MS driver
With the Intel driver
-
how new is "new" and when you say Trim support, like automatic - not via toolbox? BTW are you using the Samsung SSD that came with the M11x?
Also that link shows "desktop" boards is that fine? Download the main file + the Win7 64bit diskette? If so I'll test these when I get home. -
Supposedly, based on what I've been reading on the OCZ board, yes, this is fine for laptops and should pass through TRIM commands by default. Yep, I have the Samsung SSD.
Edit: and new is this past Friday. -
sounds great bloody templar I'll prob try when I get home to the M11x
-
I'm still waiting for a 3DMark06 and Vantage challenger
-
First, I'm not here to challenge anyone's high score... I finally got this laptop and want to keep it working and stable.
Due to the lack of SU4100 scores here's another. I only overclocked CPU in BIOS, I haven't touched any settings for GPU, used the drivers that came with the system. I got 6413.
http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/7343/imagepr.jpg
I was running demo version (free) of 3D Mark 06. The only extra thing running in the background was HWMonitor for temperatures. After I ended 3D Mark 06 run temps of GPU/CPU were 53/51 C. This is quite incredible imo. Power scheme was set at balanced (because I forgot to switch to high performance).
-
How are you guys running Vantage? I downloaded the free version, connected the laptop to my 19" monitor, manually set their basic resolution (1280x1024), then run it with their key. I couldn't change any settings in the free version anyway. The overall result showed N/A:
Thanks!
Again, same setup as in my 3D Mark 06 run, except now the power scheme is high performance. -
Since the SM2 and SM3 scores for 3dmark06 are going up when you overclock the processor does that mean that there is a bottleneck?
-
If you mean, which component could you in principle replace to improve the performance by most, then yes my opinion it's the CPU. As you implied, this is evident that by going from 1.3 GHz to 1.7GHz (without touching graphic card) you gain more than 1000 marks in the total score.
By that I don't think SU7300 is worth upgrading for the price of $100 (or $200 on UK site), in fact it's probably the most pointless upgrade unless you are using virtualization. The real upgrade would be new Intel "i" CPUs, there are some that have quite low consumption.
I like this one, since it can run for quite some time on integrated graphics. -
Dunno if that question was asked here before and answered, but still...:
Do you guys know if Nvidia 260, 280, FX2700 and FX3800 is the same physical card and just flashed differently?
If it is just a bios flash, could it be possible to flash 2 280s to make them work as 2 FX3800s? Will the SLI work then as well? And if yes - there could be a very nice benchmarking possibility as those 3800s are very powerful. There's another problem however, - each FX3800M has a 100W TDP. Anyway, just a crazy idea... -
cheers
K. -
Great numbers unreal25! I think you have sold me on the SU4100... your 3dmark06 scores came in higher than most people's SU7300 ratings. Definitely makes the $100 processor up-charge a much harder pill to swallow.
-
You guys get any of the Unigine benchmarks to work? It doesn't seem to detect the GT335. And yes I'm switched to it. When I try to set the resolution it'll come up with an error and says the intel igp can't set to that resolution.
-
Enough of my dead pixels and white blobs on the screen, I called dell and asked to replace lcd. And they made an order for a new one. Despite the fact that i bought m11x in Denmark, and asking for service in Russia. Technician will come in a few days and replace screen. God, I don't believe that such high level of service exists.
-
kitir or unreal25,
Would either of you be willing to run the Crysis benchmark on your SU4100 m11x? I believe in DR650SE's post on the first page of this thread he is compiling scores with all settings on Medium, AA off and res. at 720p. Great to see a real world test to see if that additional 1MB of cache is as critical as they want you to think.
I really appreciate both your input!
Also, how's battery life on the SU4100? -
Sure! I'm rather busy with university stuff today, but there is a high chance I'll do some tests later. I haven't had a chance to test the battery but I will of course, just don't know where to post it (or might open a new thread with SU4100 review
). It may not mean much, but on Power Savings profile the battery indicator shows around 7hrs 40mins (with IGP of course). It will take me a few days to do all battery tests that I actually wanted.
-
Thanks unreal25! Can't wait to see the results.
+1 rep. -
unreal also curious with the Crysis benchmark results as I've done the run too but with SU7300
first is my latest run on 196.86 drivers, and second pic is what's on the front page, dox drivers. Anyway both are just CPU OC, stock GPU clocksAttached Files:

I'll get Crysis tonight or tomorrow, don't worry it's coming!
Meanwhile, in the deserted metropolis of Sheldonville.....
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
Full screenshot here: http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/5052/imageomf.jpg (same setup as before; stock drivers, removed couple of useless programs and services that were running; only SU4100 OC-ed).
Later when I have more stuff, I'll PM DR650SE to add these scores to his top post. I'll run everything with this setup, as I'm trying to put out some scores with the laptop configured the way most people will use it. -
unreal25,
Those Call of Pripyat numbers are fantastic. You beat out the two previously posted SU7300 machines!
Can't wait to see more. Thanks for doing this and I appreciate the BBT quote! -
looks great unreal!

OK got Crysis, but didn't bother putting updates it takes forever to download for me for some reason. So this is version 1.0. I'll also test Star Trek Online, it just takes forever to download all the patches, so whenever that is done if you want can record FPS there too.
Fallout 3
I did some kind of benchmark (30 mins of) playing addon The Pitt. FPS recorded with free version of Fraps.
Graphic settings: High, 4xAA.
avg: 44.4 fps
The dips in the fps graph are probably the places where I'm saving the game or its loading another zone, since it ran pretty smooth. After 30 mins CPU/GPU temps were 52/58 C. Ambient 25 C.
My general comment about Fallout: it's playable (within ~20-25fps) if you run the game on Ultra details with 4xAA. There are only couple of quests where you get frame drop, like the last mission in the main quest with no addons (on the bridge), but nothing really that can't be fixed by putting details to High (I can't really tell the difference in graphics anyway). Also, for various reasons, it looks like the game limits max FPS to 60.
Crysis
With benchmark tool from the 1st post. 31.15 FPS AVG same settings as others (720p, Med settings, no AA, DX10): http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/3379/imagean.jpg
Full screenshot with CPU-Z and GPU-Z: http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/6705/imageeaa.jpg
I ran it again, the other score was 30.7, so I guess it goes somewhere in 30-31 range.
Star Trek Online
Tested space combat in one of the random encounters with many ships around and just running around the Earth space dock spinning camera to test the FPS.
space combat (max. details): AVG: 31.86 fps
dock wandering (max. details): AVG: 13.6 fps
dock wandering (1 bar below max details; "medium"): AVG: 29.19 fps

It sure looks like you have your hands on one outstanding SU4100 unit unreal25. Congrats!
Once I get around to pulling the trigger I will definitely be joining you in the Pentium D ranks! I like it... feels kinda old school. Ha! -
-
I updated my previous post with Star Trek Online test. You won't be able to have maxxed out settings all the time, but it runs really great. I guess the main thing about that is that a lot of the time picture is very dark (in space) and you may have to move the laptop a bit to avoid glare.
-
The SU4100 looks to be a stong performer! Nice job on the bench runs. Good to see those that want to save money and not sacrifice performance can go the 4100 route.
Page One Updated -
Well you are right impruv. The SU4100 and SU7300 share a lot, however the SU4100 is missing key features (VMT & SSE4) hence the Pentium designation.
I guess intel had a good reason for these two processors to coexist at two different price points... I'm just having a hard time seeing it right now.
Having used Pentiums since my old Pentium 100 MHz back in '95 I was just making joke... -
Sorry about slight digression.
Legoheads, I don't know if they are key. It doesn't seem like so now. We had some discussion over this in SU4100 vs SU7300 thread, and if you follow the link I found on Wikipedia you'll see they had the identical release price. Dell, not Intel, is charging $100(US)-$200(UK) extra for SU7300. If you get a free upgrade SU7300 then it's pretty obvious - get it.
Back on topic.
It is possible that I happened to get a good SU4100 unit, and maybe the average one performs slightly less. I can't answer that since we don't have that many different SU4100 tested. The 2nd test is NBR official one, you may want to check that one out as well. If there is some other game you'd like tested, maybe one that uses SSE4 (I have no idea which do/don't) let me know and I'll post my results. -
Wondering why I paid so much more for the SU7300 anyway lol. good work unreal
-
Ah, I tested battery on trip - with WiFi on, around 7:00, WiFi off - above 8:00 hours ! That was rather light work (office, e-book reading) and with dimmed screen. And I have SSD, I suppose that's helping.
K. -
I'm having trouble repeating my 3DMark Vantage score, (over 3100 both CPU/GPU) with only CPU overclock. I have a full version of Vantage now and I'm getting total scores in ~2700 range, with GPU scoring 2600ish. And I get the same "low" score if I try rerunning with the free key.
It can be so many different things, stupid GTAIV installed tons of extra stuff that took me forever to remove. Now I removed all that, removed all Windows updates and didn't help. Now I'm doing System restore to yesterday's settings, maybe that'll help. I didn't know system restore will take freaking forever tho.... might've as well just made full partition image and restored it.
Possibly it had to do something with DirectX, which I'll try to set to whichever version came pre-installed.
Any ideas are welcome...
EDIT: I figured it was probably a bugged run; now I tried with another trial key and it does give you a full score. So yeah, its around 2700ish. -
OK, my first test Stalker-Call of Prypyat:
1. CPU 1,73GHz, GPU stock
2. CPU 1,73GHz, GPU 590/880/1400
I'm using stock Alienware drivers.
As far I have problem with benchmarking Crysis. I have installed it from Maximum Edition (ofc legal) and Crysis Benchmark Tool is not working - it is switching on normal game. I have to manage what is going on. -
Thanks for posting kitir, nice scores. Is that SU4100 configuration from your sig or you got the SU7300 upgrade? Also I noticed you have a checkmark on PhysX in GPU-Z. Mine was disabled by default and I did all my tests like that. I don't know whether it has any effect whatsoever on Stalker benchmark.
-
Kitir, nice scores. Post one was updated, try running without physx. Most of the bench runs are done without it. Trying to get all bench scores as uniform as possible with settings.
unreal25, check you nvidia physx control panel. Try running with and without physx. Maybe that was the issue. I know when it's on it inflates the cpu score. I think I only did one run stock on the m11x with an external and it was something like a P2525 score.
