I looked on their site and the bag is 11.75 inches by 9.5 inches. So it should fit perfectly.

Possibly a silly question, when ordering on the Dell website, one of the pages asks you to select an avatar. What is the avatar? when I rang the Dell helpline, they told me it was the alien head on the back of the screen, and that they are all the same, but can light up with different colours.

Please can someone tell me if this correct, as the pictures of the avatars you can select do not look like the same thing but in different colours.

    Thanks

Bubbles, the CPU is soldered in and not changeable. It would void the warranty to try. Not to mention, the BIOS wouold need to support the new CPU if you could get the old one out. The SU4100/SU7300 operates at .9V. Thats why you get great battery life.

You will still need a new mother board and all the other goodies that go with it. You can't just dump in the i7 cpu onto this c2d one.

Fairly proficient won’t cut it when soldering a CPU. You will need an ESD free workstation, and the soldering equipment needed to do a miniature/micro job. As well as the experience to ensure you have no cold joints without applying too much heat to the processor. So, if you are fairly proficient you will have spent all that money and effort making a doorstop.

I couldn't see the link because of filters at work, but if it's a i-core processor as NSX has stated, then yea. Thats a no go at this station. The i-core CPU's are a totally differant architecture then the C2D and require an entirely differant chipset to operate. Not to mention BIOS support. So no, that CPU won't work. Also bakareshii is right. A cpu chip has tons of pins, each needing individual and intense caution soldering, and probably not possible by most people. Thats the reason for mechanical assembly lines. Effeciency and the ability to turn out the same exact results. No shakey hands, human error, ect. Fairly proficient is just not enough. Your best bet to overclock would be a pin mod, but even then there is no data sheet currently available to know which pins to cross in order to disable the TME.

Also, another question, I keep hearing about CUDA, I know that it allows the CPU and GPU to work together on tasks other than gaming but like, do I need to turn it on? Can it be used all the time to boost performance?

edit: If someone could comment on the legality of this, that would be awesome. Can they void a coupon after it's been applied to the order and the order has been shipped?

edit edit: It looks like they've already charged my account... but it's been charged with the price of my order including the $50 coupon. I wonder what they're doing.

WOO! I just got my M11x! There's no dead pixels and I don't see any gap around the E2E, although there's one on each side up at the top where the matte accent thing is.

I do have the clicking in the hinges when I adjust the lid, though. It's just one click when I start to move it, almost like it's locking it in and out of place but the movement is fluid with no creaking. We'll see if I need a Dell tech to come and fix it in the coming days.

Edit: no issues with overclocking so far. Windows sees it as 1.73GHz like all the other users. I ordered Gobi so I'll try that out later.

    Congrats man! :)

But what do you mean like all the others? CPU-Z, CoreTemp and the Intel Processor Identification Utility (PIU) all read the CPU speed at 1.6GHz. Windows and 3DMark06 (programs that don't read the core speed directly) are the only ones that read it at 1.73GHz (i.e. the expected core speed).

EDIT: I just think I've understood what you meant. You mean like all the other M11x's... my apologies.

rpg I meant like all the other users, sorry. XD I should clarify that.

I put my viewguard on... and it makes the screen look like there's oil all over it like when your phone has been against your ear for a long period of time and you look at the screen. I wouldn't really recommend the viewguard unless you have a really big problem with all of the glare.

Also commenting on what some users were asking a long time ago: you can open the lid with one hand but you have to be careful. If you treat it like your 17", the bottom will flip up. Just be easy with it and you can definitely open with one hand using the weight of the bottom.

ceolwulf: for your screenguard, try flipping it the other way. As in, whatever side you used to push against the screen, try the otherside. Alot of screen protectors only work one way. That's how it was for my iphone screen protector. One side gave the oily look, the other was fine.

Also, your fan LED is the same light as your keyboard. Whatever your keyboard is, that's what your fan will be.

Alright, a little update. They're sending a tech out either tomorrow or Monday to fix it. They need to replace the entire motherboard for one LED, but whatever.

I'm going to make him wait until I test the OC to make sure this new board isn't faulty.

I looked at those but they really sound shady. I just want a way to turn my game into an .iso so I can mount with a virtual drive. I've tried isomagic but I guess the copywrite protection is blocking it.

I know everyone buying the mx isn't planning on lugging around a usb drive or rebuy all their stuff through steam, so what are you guys using?

Wow a new mobo for an LED light? Make sure it is stable in CPU OC and Nvidia graphics and that things like bluetooth work.

Someone had their mobo switched out and the tech forgot to hookup the bluetooth. :p

I was gonna PM you a couple of excellent no-cd game sites but you have that option disabled. The sites just allow you to run your installed game without cds.

They are just small file no-cd things. These sites do not have the game to download so I don't want anyone asking me about that.

I enabled so hopefully I can receive now. Any recommendations would be great! I play a ton of games on my desktop, just wanting to get ready for the M11x which will be here sometime this month (hopefully).

I don't need to download the games, I'll just toss all the cd contents into a folder and move across the network to install. It's just the cd in the drive to play thing. I can already rip my DVDs and play them using magicdisc, but the games won't work that way.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hey everyone.
I'm new to the forums, and as everyone else is, a new m11x owner (ordered 3/3/2010, EDD 3/25/2010)
Been lurking the forums for quite a while, but have a question i haven't seen answered.

I heard somewhere when the M11x was first announced that AT&T doesn't work right with the Gobi WWAN ?
I'd like to know if i'm going to be able to take my sim card out of my iphone, plug it into my laptop and be able to use the AT&T 3G network using my current iphone data plan, with no additional charges.

Thanks a lot, and i look forward to perhaps helping someone else once i receive this beautiful laptop. :)
