*OFFICIAL* M11xR1 Owners Lounge - Part 4

Has anybody ordered theirs with the WAN+GPS? I'm curious to know if the GPS works without having a cell-chip installed. Example: Can I use the built-in GPS with MS Streets or the like?

And while many say NOT to order the SSD that comes with M11x, has anybody? And how good is the speed on it? 256GB is more than enough for me as a second laptop. I just want to get away from 1:30-2mins of loading time.

Thinking I might do a fresh install once I get the SSDs. I would have thought there would have been some sort of resource disc. I will however keep a cloned copy of the HDD, just in case.

Star, the 256GB isn't a bad drive, it's just not as fast as the aftermarket SSDs. I have two of them on the way (256GB Samsungs) and going to use those in the M11X and the other iin the M17X when I get around to ordering it. I also have two 160GB Intel SSDs on the way. Just to see where they stand. The 160s will probably be in RAID 0 in the M17X for a few weeks as I run benchs, but the 256 will ultimately be the drive I use. They should cut those load times dramatically

Yea, so far everything is good. I have yet to OC the CPU, I just ran down to my room and loaded a thumbdrive with my CPU tools, Achronis, 3DMark06, Vantage, CPU-Z, GPU-Z, HWMonitor, Nvidia System Tools, and some other good stuff. Obviously it's a slow day at work. Perfect.

CPUID Hardware Monitor is a great program, includes the temps for all components.

when i play cod6 - my temps are 61 ° max .. is that normal??

 

only thing is that the kabuto does not allow the lid to completely close, and if you force it the back of the lcd chassis buckles a bit. not a good thing over time. i decided not to keep mine inside just for that reason.

 

got2bel82day Thats a good operating temp. You don't want it to go above 85C, or even 80C.

 

finaly got mine last night seems to well made no problems so far running oc all night fit & finish is real good its a little strange getting used 2 such a small system anyway good luck 2 all

What a fantastic idea, but what I think would be even better would be a sturdy mousemat that sat on top of the right hand side of the keyboard (Not the WASD) keys as they are primary ones for gaming, that was sturdy enough that you could use as the mousemat without inadvertantly pressing any keys, this will allow you to play games on your lap when there is no table top present.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this, I totally appreciate it wouldn't work for all games, but certainly for most of the FPS etc that I know of (Most would use the middle mouse button to change weapons etc)

Maybe a silly idea? but I might have a go at making one if no one has ever seen anything like it

I ordered mine in UK on Wednesday 03 March, and just looked, and it is already out for delivery, I guess China has received a huge shipment of them?

The website says it will be delivered in the next 4 days, can't wait.

ive had my m11x for just over a week and have dead pixel appearing in the centre has any else had this problem how can i get rid of it (as it comes on only sometimes)?

Anyone ordered/received the Alienware M11x Neoprene sleeve? The Alienware binder version looks like it would scratch the lappy (with that zip just above where it sits). Also if anyones got any pics of the M11x in the incase 13" neoprene sleeve, I'd appreciate a look. Thanks

 

I ordered the sleeve but haven't received it yet (or my laptop for that matter). The EDD on my sleeve is the 15th so I should have it around the same time I get my laptop.

Guys I know many of you have recommended great bags. I am looking for one that snuggly fits I the m11x plus has extra room for charger, orochi mouse. I have a bag that belonged to my vaio z 13" but I just dont like how the charger pushes up against the laptop. So any recommendations? Preferably something that is sold on amazon.

I placed the order on the 26th of Feb and the orignal EDD was 3/29... This morning I checked and the EDD went to 3/10. There was also a Fedex number attached showing that the package was processed and picked up 3/3 for a ship date of today! (3/6)

Say whaat? I ordered mine on the phone too but the guy told me that if I used my student discount through the EPP thing that it would cost more. Like more that a grand. I may need that extension if he is as you say.

 

no financing here. used my money I sold my sager with for it. no regrets!

 

Call them and tell them you have at least one dead pixel in the screen, explain it is hard to tell that it is only one, and it could be a cluster of 3 or more, and it is really off putting, and the fact that it is only just over 1 week old you would like a replacement machine, they will send an engineer out like a flash to give you a new screen rather then replace the machine you currently have.

...And you haven't complained to your rep yet? Several of us that ordered in the past few days alreay have EDDs of sometime this week, if it hasn't been delivered. My EDD is 3/10/10...and I'm on 7 day-delivery, and ordered on the 3rd. Seriously go complain. Hell email this to your rep if your computer specs are similar to mine:

 

My total price was $1109.81 after tax.

That screenshot doesn't do you any good unless it actually ships. more then likely it will get delayed man.

What we need are some of these people claiming to have ordered it in the last week or two and already received it to post up their info.

 

Zlog, I understand your position and I will post on Wednesday when I get mine. I have a hard time thinking I will not get mine on that date when I already have an active Fedex shipping number giving me the same information as the Dell website.

 

I've complained through email and I tried to call my rep, but her extension doesn't exist on the number in the email we communicate by lol. So...yea. If it doesn't come by the 11th...somethin smellys gonna go down for sure.

downloaded the orange box and peggle nights through steam. Portal, team fortress 2 and half life 2 episode one will start but the peggle deluxe/nights and half life 2 both act as if they are going to load but then with half life i end up having to start task manager to exit out and with peggle i can hear the startup music, then it acts as if its going to load but then spits me back out into the desktop screen. If anyone has any help/suggestions id appreciate it. im thinking to just uninstall and reinstall the programs but that will take a hell of alot of time since im on vacation and the internet in my hotel sucks real bad

 

coathanger - my portal kind of did that. try attaching -windowed to the launch properties. right click properties and add that to the line. "-windowed" without the quotes.

 

oh i see what you mean. portal did that to me too.
dont push or click anything when the logo screens appear, doing that sent me back to the desktop. i wait until im in the game menu
