Yes, it's Samsung PC3-8500 (Part # M471B5673EH1-CF8). It has a CAS latency of 7 at 1066MHz.

RE: Space - wow - you use 128 GB - really? There's *got* to be something in all of that data you can live without / move to an external or portable drive.. -
i have just brought Kingston hyper X 4gb kit
CL5 @ 1066mhz
to replace the 2gb in there -
Anyway bad news guys, I did some benchmark fps runs for BFBC2 and posted it over in the Benchmark thread here and basically OC'ing the GPU does NOT help average FPS hardly at all. check it out. -
thx

Well folks, here is what I think of the M11x
Dear Dell/Alienware,
For years i've been travelling alot on planes, staying in hotels and all I've wanted is a laptop that could play most of the recent games at a decent FPS.
THANK YOU DELL
You are the first to achieve this and after one plane journey I couldn't be happier. The machine is fantastic and whilst its not the fastest games machine ever made, its absolutely fantastic in terms of game playing and portability and you can charge it on plane power! 6 hours of CoD:MW2 was awesome! Had a load of people watching me play on the plane too
Cheers,
Neil.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

@apt2l - I had a total of 18 characters on it yet only 17 characters showed up. this is including spaces.
-
@aznguyen316 - thats really bad for me then. I have 19 characters
-
So I called Alienware to get my front left speaker LED and screen replaced. They sent an order out for the screen and a new mobo (wut) for the LED and the tech just came now.
Turns out they never sent or told him about the screen so he just replaced the mobo. After about 30 minutes of taking my computer apart, we boot it up and load up AlienFX and.......... still nothing. The red and white LEDs are still out. He then said that I would have to wait for Dell to send me a box, ship it out, wait 7-10 business days for them to fix it, and then send it back.
*sigh* -
yeah I dunno I think part of it might be b/c it was all in caps even though I didn't type it in that way. AW rep said it could fit 20 but I told him it didn't. My new one just came in and it's only 7 characters all lower case hehe
-
I feel really dumb now because I added 6 spaces before the words so it would not overlap with the Alien face on the nameplate. Right now I will just have to wait and keep my fingers crossed

I am looking for a good cheap external cd-rom/dvd for my m11x. Anyone found a good deal? I wasnt going to pay $100 for the one from dell.
-
I can honestly say that the new drivers from Nvidia are the only hope here.
I installed the 196.75 drivers over the weekend (the one's pulled for frying some cards with auto fan failures - yip - them) and the performance increase was astonishing.
I gained around 20 - 30 fps on my GTX 295 on high settings, and the game play is waaaay smoother.
Went back to 196.21 and frames are down and gameplay slight stutter is back.
Bring on the new drivers - suspect it will considerably help the 335m. -
Wusman I hope so too. There's already a Dell leak of the 196.86 I think for the M17x that some members have installed, but I couldn't get it to work on the M11x's 335m

What airplane power adapter are you using? -
I haven't had a chance to actually test it with the M11x - stupid 3/23 EDD. -
I am personally in love with my M11X... just put in a fresh install of Windows Ultimate and downloaded the drivers for the machine and just love the build quality on this thing.
The only down side if you wanna look at it that way is the feel of the keyboard keys. They have a "dirty matte" type of a coat on them that attracts alot of grease even if you are typing with clean hands. The mouse pad also is a fingerprint magnet... I have had mine for a week and it looks like it's a year old due to the wear on it already... no joke.
Those things aside though, my impression of this is good all around. My screen has no dead pixels, I have sturdy hinges, and am not experiencing any problems with loud fan noise due to overclocking the system in BIOS. If and when the fan kicks in it is a soft whisper that is barely audible, despite the other reviews on this unit.
Hopefully that helps some of you that are considering a purchase to just jump in and do it. I have not loaded any games on it yet since my next step is to update my NVIDIA drivers. I don't know whether to stick with the DELL ones or go with the DOX ones on the laptop2go page. Any comments? Thanks in advance! -
@aznguyen316 - is that how you wanted the nameplate or they just modified it for you?
-
I'm sitting in my office (10PM), everyones been gone since 5:30pm, and my M11X is propped up on its side on a little fridge directly in front of the air conditioner as I'm running 3DMark06. I need another hobby. lol Also browing the forum on my work computer...
-
hey dro were do you access the internet with your m11x ill be in the desert ill be there in a few months and was wondering if the gazeboos and the moral tent was it? i want internet in my trailer lol
ill knock my bunkmate out if he thinks hes ganna touch this thing if i ever get it
-
Haha, let me know where your going to be at through PM if you have any idea. But a lot of the bases have internet in the pods if you pay for it. At my base it's in the room free. I put a wireless router in so I can move about the room. I also have a NIPR line in my office so I do a lot of my browsing there during the day and on the M11X at night in my room. And on the 1720, and hopefully the M17X whenever I get to ordering that. All depends on the FOB, but at most large ones it's in the room. But yea our MWR place has wireless as well.

Im going on holiday soon to the US, like sometime after the 20th. Obviouslly I will be wanting to pick one of these up as you guys get your laptops a lot cheaper than we UK'ers do. So, whats the best way of doing this, I see that its not on the BestBuy site. Are there many stores where I can physically buy an m11x or would I have to ship it to the rented house where im staying?
-
-
@eat my brains
no m11x in retail... None that I know of. Your best bet would be to ship to rent house. -
Im using this one, but I believe that Kensington have released a newer model

Thanks Neil.

or beg someone here to sell to you that already has on in hand haha
-
Hey guys I was actually looking at some videos of people playing with the m11x and it seems very cabable. But unfortunetly it cant handle very well games like battlefield bad company 2 due to the slow processor. Does anybody know if Dell will be updating it any time soon with the new core i7 u processors they seem to consume only 18w and they will definetly do they job a lot better than the core 2 duo
-
-
Hey guys just wondering. When it comes to drivers for the 335m, do you guys think nvidia will be providing ones that work with the m11x? or will we have to resort to dell for them? For example with my old vaio I had to download drivers from sony as nvidia didn't provide any for my laptop.
-
@eat brains = It was slated for retail in Aus so no reason why it shouldn't be in retail there. the only thing about retail is that they have only certain models in stock
-
@kampin = iX rumoured for August/October.
-
Ok, silly question time....
I seem to remember reading a while back about a charger that you could use instead of plugging the laptop into the mains to charge it, almost like a spare battery I guess.
Anyone know of anything like this please, as I have just looked on Amazon and can't find anything like it..
Thanks -
Woo, just got my toys for the m11x, but still waiting on the m11x lol. The orochi / kabuto are super nice. Also, I have an ocz ssd sitting on my desk doing nothing.
-
@nsx
send me your SSD I'll make it do something lol -
Don't know if this has been posted before, if so sorry, but it is cool. Complete tear down of the M11X:

Its on engadget or gizmodo, not too sure, but nice link
Waterproof keyboard? Dell forgot to mention that ay.
-
I guess I didn't notice or make the connection it's a waterproof design. Does that mean if water got in, it would just hang in the tray of the keyboard and most likely not fall into the Motherboard? nice.
I saw the article on engadget but didn't read it. So thanks captain, good stuff! makes me wish I replaced the thermal pads with the ones I had on the chipset. Wondering if that would've helped keep the CPU temps down since they're connected. My MX-3 doesn't seem to be doing the best job on the CPU but it's working very well for the GPU. -
Waterproof? Well that makes me happier since my main fear is spilling on it because I have to drink stuff while at the PC
-
the caption after the keyboard removal made me laugh. "C side panels are about to be demolished"
-
Google's captioning and translating is... stomachable but not earth shakingly good.
@azn = Does dismantling the think to apply thermal paste void warranty? And does it make a big difference? -
hi guys,
I'd like to know how the m11x at stock speed would compare to a NOT overclocked desktop with an e6750 and an nvidia 7900 gs
thx
