You guys with the Razer Orochi. Where do you download the software for it? Can't find it on Razer's site anywhere. Also, the mouse wheel is supposed to light up right? Mine doesn't light up. But all I see on their page is the firmware updater and drivers, but not the software.

Software is there with the driver download. I think it's version 1.02 or something. And the light can be enabled or disabled in software.

Oh ok, was about to download that and see if it was or not. And kinda figured it was the software that enables it. Thanks.

The firmware is just that - firmware. 1.06 is the latest I believe - and much better (at least from a connection standpoint) than the previous firmwares.

Driver is 1.02 - which contains the "configurator" software to connect to the mouse and allow changes, etc.

    Hey everyone,

I got my m11x today in the mail. I went for the 1.3ghz core2duo and I enabled overclocking in the BIOS. Went for 4gb of RAM and the 500gb 7200 rpm drive.

I installed team fortress 2, but I am only getting 30fps and below in game. I have seen videos of the m11x on youtube of people getting almost 80fps. I wanted to ask you guys if you know of an updated driver for the geforce gt 335m.

the only applications I have running in the background is the alienwarefx, the facelogin, bluetooth module, and thats about it actually. The graphics card is switched to increased performance so I don't know what else to do. I was thinking about just wiping the computer and then do a fresh install of Windows 7. Any thoughts, opinions, ideas, solutions are much appreciated! Thank you.

It was mention in chewietobacco review thread... To get 70-80fps, you need to enable multi-thread or something like that within the game setting (I don't have the game so I donno exactly what chewie was refering to)... Just have a search for that review thread and you will find the info there! Good luck!

Hey guys. I if i order now the m11x, the expected shipping date is 3/31.
That's at least 3 weeks of waiting. I seems like everybody's orders are coming in late because demand rate is so high. What if I wait until 4/1 to order? Do you think the wait time will be just as long?

Yea i know that i'm talking about the fastest SATA drive non-SSD

the fastest i have found is

    7200 320GB 16MB cache seek time of 12ms

Theres some news that there is a raptor 2.5" drive (listed on scan.co.uk) that has 10,000 RPM!!!! ?!?

Cant find any information on this though

    300 GB Western Digital WD3000BLFS VelociRaptor, 2.5", SATA 3Gb/s, 10000rpm, 16MB Cache, 4.2 ms

If you don't want to go the SSD route, there is always 10,000 RPM and 15,000 RPM 2.5" laptop drives. :D But you'll pay for it.

    10,000 RPM

    15,000 RPM

tomcole, I think the cost of the 10000rpm raptor would make it seem like the SSD would be a better deal, and plus at 10000rpm you're battery would dip some more!

And after the kingston ram with the heat spreaders... do you feel your palm area is less warm to the touch?

michaelbyz23, make sure your running high performance, and not running on battery. Disable all background programs. Go into Alien FX and make sure your set to Max GPU.

i'm using the stock drivers - for some bits.

although there is a driver update soon offically to nvidia's site

Nvidia support: The current mobile drivers on our website do not support the Geforce GT 330M. Our next mobile release is slated for the middle of March which will add support for the Geforce 300M series GPUs.

I formatted my m11x and installed the drivers from a mixture of dell and intels website

The dell chipset and Hdd controller drivers are OLD! Intel has the latest revisions for these.

I have also disabled all the system services i dont need such as windows search , indexing, and all the cr*ap thats not needed.

When i first turned on my machine on the Dell build RAM was @ 800mb now its 678mb :) - with the same stuff installed.

I have also disabled Bluetooth via the Bios as i'll never use that.

The ram i have installed doesnt get hot i played LFD2 last night for a good few hours didnt notice any difference, oh and by the way the ram is located at the bottom of the m11x.

IMO, anything more than 7200RPM you'll want to get an SSD. No vibration, no heat, noise, battery drain and SSDs are still faster. Not mention if you're paying that much for a platter drive, fail rate is higher than an SSD in terms of dropping and parts failure.

@tom you got the ones with heat spreader right? Surprised it fit, I was checking out the ram slots yesterday, pretty tight fit. Also what's your Windows Experience Index with the new ram?

Best price for the one you have listed is around $200...

You can get SSD's for $250-$300 - of course at less than half the amount the space.. It really depends on what you want with regards to price vs. performance. An SSD is exponentially faster, however.

I have a WD Black 7200 RPM 320GB drive and it's got fast start up and shutdown times. I can't imagine what an SSD would look like, although I'll be installing one in a few weeks.

i did try an SSD (OCZ 30GB) in the laptop but they just so expencive hence why asking if they do a faster drive then 7200 for laptops. The boot time was allot faster and so was load times. But to find a decent SSD around 300GB your going to be broke! so i stuck my 7200 back in and have more space.

the answer is no all the ones pasted here are for enterprise servers which need head caddies for blades. You'll also notice the 10k / 15k drives are thicker 15mm and dont fit any laptops.

The Hyper X ram i brought fits nicely :) impressed.

i havnt used Windows Experience yet and dont intend to their figures are very vauge.

I'd be better off using a proper benchmarking tool but sod installing one as its another peace of software i DONT want on the laptop.

To be honest its all about making your windows 7 build as slim as possible and turning off everything you dont use/need either in the BIOS or system services.

    there is allot of difference

the dell drivers are old (188) dox are 196+

    Loads of improvments and fixes.

Nvidia offical drivers will be out soon for the m11x this month you might be better of waiting if you want offical drivers.

Ok thanks for that tomcoleman!! By the way, I was wondering if any of you guys that did a fresh install of Windows 7 on this thing ever got the log in screen with the Alienware logo at startup to work? Is there a driver that maybe includes the screen at the beginning of the install? I installed Windows 7 Ultimate fresh from a USB drive and it just boots into the regular screen.

yes you need to have first saved the logos screens off your alienware

    C:\windows\oobe and other icons

Then when you do yourrebuild place them back to where they should be you may alos need to enable OEMBackground in your registry.

OK the Dell 5530 WWAN adaptor works with the M11x. I've had some strange things with it saying NO SIM CARD present when there was one and I think this might be a confict between Windows 7 and the Dell connection manager. Interestingly you can connect to a mobile broadband network from the network setup part of windows 7 and you don't need the broadband manager!

I'm using the WiFi antenna at the moment and get 7.2M :) Will test with the add on antenna tonight, but expect same performance based on testing with my Clevo.

    Cheers,
    Neil.

just one thing on this though. I had to manually install the drivers as the installer kept saying "not compatible with this computer". So I extracted them from the MSI and installed via Device Manager.

    Nice work, Neil!
That's good news. I'm pretty sure it's the 5520 I have in my M1330 (and not 5530), do you think that might work or does it have to be 5530 and higher/better?

Pretty sure the 5520 should work too. The 5520 is a better card than the 5530 in my view also, I had a 5520 but stupidly sold it for the 5530 to get GPS and the GPS on the card is utter pants :D

Just one thing that doesn't work - Sierra Wireless card that I had doesn't work, so I think its BIOS locked to Dell cards.
