Ya, wow. Splitting off so many plugs from one socket without a surge protector makes me woozy!
-
i think this has been posted before but couldnt find it in search, i over saw before that you could switch from battery use to AC use so that you dont use your battery, is this automatic when you plug in the AC or what do you do to turn on AC use only?
Btw. only took me 10 days to get it from canada & im lovin it. lol -
Its a bios option to disable charging when on AC power (under "Power" in the Bios menu). It won't charge the whole time you're plugged in but once you unplug and run on battery power, the setting would be reset to allow charging.

@nuke & @RAQemup - All my expensive electronics have a surge protector. I didnt realize I got the plug in my photos too. That plug doesnt have anything important and high power consuming plugged into it
I m loving my M11x alot. I had an issue with my bluetooth but it was resolved by the tech support. I will test BT a little bit more tomorrow.
@nuke - Awesome is the right word to describe itWhere did you see my hands? I was very careful not to include my hands or legs in the photos but looks like I was unsuccessful. Oops.
-
Can someone please point me to the page that tells you how to run a game without using the CD?
Since I'll hopefully be getting my lappy by tuesday, I'd like to have this stuff ironed out so I can just fly through getting mine ready for use. -
@cridgit - I just download the lite version:
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/downloads
You can use it to load the ISO files. -
-
no you're right, ISOs are chunky
-
@apt2l = Thats what I named my m11x. My dear AWESOME. In caps lol. Saw the plug in pic 2 and the reflection of your hands with the cam in the lsat comparison pic. Nice photos btw.
-
There are websites that contain no-cd checks for a multitude of games. Just removes cd checks for games and do not contain the actual games themselves.
-
Just FYI guys, I picked up the Asus external DVD-DL burner today at bestbuy and it will run off a single USB connection as well. Has similar styling too, kind of angled and looks nice next to it... also comes with a stand so it can stand upright like a little tower.
It comes with a Y-USB cable, however it ran just fine with a mini-5pin cable i had layin around. -
-
-
@nuke - Thanks. I didnt realize about the reflection of my hands hehe...
I hope the comparison photo will give prospective user an idea about how big is Mr. AWESOME -
ok... sooo big problem if anyone could help me on this it would be great but, just wondering i got my alienware m11x yesterday and i turned it on and worked great so i proceeded to install my ssd and i opened the back case, and i proceeded to take out the battery etc etc and than when i reached the hard drive bracket i unscrewed one of the two screws and when i went to unscrew the other one the screw couldnt be unscrewed so i used a bit of force and it wouldn't unscrew and became a small hole instead of a +, so in that case how would i take out that screw? i called dell and they said they would send me a new hard drive bracket but they wouldnt send a technician or anything to fix the problem... so my only choice is to either return this and get a brand new one or... fix this and not wait 3 more weeks. and ive used a #00 screw driver and i easily unscrewed everything else but this... its like this screw was screwed on too hard.

So, in my quest for life without CDs for the lovely m11x, I ran into a program called VirtualCD(v.9). Although I'm not entirely sure how it works, I can still use it as I tested it on an older game just to make sure it works, RCT2.
My question though is this. When I make a virtual copy of the cd using the program, I then install the program from said copy. But my issue this, does making a copy of the cd onto my HDD and then installing it like you always have to do, create 2 copies of the cd on my HDD. In other words, do I have the same game on my HDD taking up 2x the space as it normally would? -
On my desktop, none of my games ever required a CD to play. What game exactly are you trying to get working CDless?
The best thing is to install the game and check the net for a nocd from Gamecopyworld or something. Dumping the entire disc on your hard drive is inconvenient and kind of sucks. -
At this point - probably your only option is to attempt to keep trying to get the screw out.. maybe you can find a tool, etc. @ Home Depot, etc., that'll help unscrew/pull it out. -
Second - multiple boot/partitions... you really NEED to search and study up on how to do this on your own - it's not just a "simple" thing to do, nor something that should be discussed in detail in this specific thread surrounding the M11X (though you could probably start up another thread.. or search to see if one already exists here).
That being said, there's a wide variety of "how-to" guides already available on the 'net that explain in detail how to accomplish this.
First - this details (though from an "older" OS install standpoint - but the concepts are the same) how to partition your drive for supporting a multi-OS installation:
http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/Multiboot/multiboot1.htm
Second - you'll either need an external CD/DVD drive, or a large utility USB drive to accomplish this. In either case - you'll need to create a Boot USB/CD to contain the utilities/software needed in order to successfully create the multiple partitions as well as to install your preferred OS's. Again, there are a variety of places on the 'net detailing how to create this utility disk, however one of the most common ones can be found here:
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
Hopefully that'll get you started - good luck! -
-
Can't you just set your partitions up during Windows installation?

If no one has mentioned it.. the M11x is on sale today on Dell's daily deal for the week. $999
SU7300
4GB
160GB HDD
not sure what else.. but says you save $99.. shrugs -
Yeah, the extra price gets you a 2yr basic warranty and the bluetooth option. Interestingly enough, you can deselect the Bluetooth option to save yourself an additional $20, but then there is a popup saying that there are now compatibility issues and won't let you proceed. I wish I actually had the option regarding the Bluetooth.
On an additional note, if you look at the EPP version of Days of Deals, you can get an additional 2% off in addition to the $99. And it's the same configuration/same cost. -
@azn = Oooooh so Dell was true to its promise. "Max" specs at a 999 price point lol. BYO SDD hard disk. lol.
-
Today's deal isn't anywhere as good as the ones I saw people get in early February.
-
The Deal of the Day only gets you an additional year of basic service for $30. Not a very exciting proposition unfortunately. To think I was so thrilled to see it listed there earlier this morning. Boo-urns.
-
I'm jealous.
I also want my bloody computer to arrive. -
Those mega stackers? By golly those were awesome, some guys got like 17% off.
-
Could anyone post a picture of their system manager? im missing 2 unknown drivers and i have no idea which they are.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+...&skuId=9361497&st=Asus external DVD-DL burner
I hope not cause Amazon has it for $20 cheaper lol.
http://www.amazon.com/Writer-Extern...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268518290&sr=1-10
You could always buy it off amazon and return the Best Buy one.
@ apt2l
Awesome pics bro!
But seriously, that's an electrical fire waiting to happen lol. -

Just installed WoW: WOTLK from the collector's dvd, and it is SILENT and just as fast as any drive I've used. Good little device! -
-
It's just an estimate based on battery capacity and draw, and its even possible that his battery is miscalibrated and reporting more charge then it has.
Unless he shows us a time-lapse video of 12 hour life, I wouldn't buy it unless he's undervolted and underclocked himself pretty hard. -
-
Wonder of there are any EPP coupons floating to reduce the price even further
-
hey is anyone else having problems playing 1080p youtube files properly? i can play 1080p quicktimes smooth as butter, but even with the 335m on i am still getting choppy video on youtube at 1080p... help?? thx
-
Its flash player's fault. Get the beta version if you really want 1080p.
-
-
^ 5% here too
-
-
If anyone cares... here's the Windows Experience Index for the rig in my sig.
-
Did Dell enable GPS in the laptops with Gobi?
I don't need 3G, just want GPS on the laptop and was wondering if it works by itself, thanks. -
hmm second 4.5 I seen with SU4100. Guess the SU7300 has a .1 something better in terms of WEI benchmarks haha
-
I noticed the config said the M11x had a 5.1 sound card.
How do you get 5.1 without an optical out?
Can I use the HDMI for audio only with my surround setup? -
-
So...I just picked up a micro BT adapter cause the on board bluetooth would never pick up my orochi. Sadness.
-
then install v10.1 beta 3, there are two parts that you have to do: The player and the ActiveX controller.
beta 3 not only allows nVidia GPUs to render the video in flash (beta 1 actually was the first to do nVidia) but it also allows Intel GPUs as well.
I'm able to do HD youtube and hulu in most cases with my Intel. Some 1080p flash still works better on the 335 though, but I've only seen the need for the 335 on Hulu which doesn't seem to be coded as well as youtube. -
Sadly, we will probably never know for sure, since I am not willing to rig up some impossibly complex test to see if it actually lasts 12 hours. However, in my general use, and using it upwards of 5 hours each day in class, it rarely gets below 50%, that is with some internet browsing and such thrown in with the note taking, so I fully believe 10+ hours on power saver to be realistic.
Keep in mind I don't use wireless much during the day, so except for the in-between class times I am taking notes and have it switched off. I would estimate wireless easily decreases battery life by 2+ hours if you use it constantly.
