I would say slightly warm... but nothing I couldn't handle on bare skin. I tested it with my palm, pretty cool. I'm on discrete graphics too - been on all day.

i play some games with the m11x sitting on my chest. never gets hot or uncomfortable. the hp dv4-1224 i had...i'd need an ice pack underneath it to do that. never did that, but it used to burn my thighs bad from playing or surfing on my lap.

Its a tad bit warm but not unbearable. My HP Minii 2140 used to get warmer than that but it had an all aluminium chassis.

I agree it gets a bit warm but nothing major. I have an old macbook pro that literally singes the hairs on my thighs when watching videos. I was very happy to see how this thing handles heat...

Turn off shadowing, bloom and other unnecessary crap, and you can leave the settings on HIGH. Also overclock the CPU and the GPU to boost the FPS. Personally I wouldn't pass up on this computer just because you cant get 30 FPS in a 25 man raid, on battery power.

I gotta say, the BIGGEST CON about this laptop is that it's making my money fly out the door. I keep picking up stupid accessories for this thing and it's upsetting me greatly lol.

Spent $0 on accessories so far.
Still need to get an ODD and a wireless mouse though, so there goes $160 or so. And I really want to pick up a SSD down the line so that's at least another $300, and lets not mention the games for the thing.

The only thing that's stopping me from going gung-ho on crap for my PC is that I'm saving for a down payment on a new car, and grad school applications.

LOL eleventy billion times over at the WEI comparisons for RAM and HDD and CPU that are within .1 of each other. Yeah, yeah please go back to that HP just because of the WEI score. Oh. My. God.

Let's see where do I start, battery life, cooling factor, weight, screen quality, GPU, potential, chassis, alienFX. I don't even want to continue, because that's already covered more than enough to justify it over some HP. Also, Bios Options. No horribly locked down Insyde BIOS. No HP WHITELISTS!!! The CPU has a max TDP of 10w and the cpu/gpu combo maxes out most games with 30fps across the board. The form factor is smaller than a 13" MBP if a tad thicker. AlienFX. repeat the last sentence/word 20 million more times. Once more for great justice: ALIENFX. DDR2 (likely HP) vs DDR3 (m11x). AMD laptop CPUs (HP) versus any intel laptop CPU (m11x) LOL! All platter HDDs are almost exactly the same, obv 7200rpm is better than 5400, m11x has 7200rpm options. Need I go on? I'll stop.

Oh and I've had my m11x on high performance and 335m for the past 7 hours and it is extremely cool to the touch. Makes much less noise than my 1000HE netbook!

Suggestions if yours is too hot? exit AlienFX once you get your preferred profile and do a clean install of windows 7 OH MY GOD I hope everyone in here has done that or plans to. Laptop purchasing 101, that's the first lesson!

Also, my intel SSD cools down any laptop significantly in the general area that the HDD/SSD resides, it's one of the major benefits of SSDs.

The black is a shiny, gloss fingerprint magnet. They are very easy to see, however, scratches don't really seem to be a problem, since light ones blend in with the flecks of silver in the black.

You aren't going to find a system below 15" that will run wow with the settings turned up fyi.

Also, I think the other guy needs to adjust is graphics a bit. I'm running 20-30fps in Dalaran with view distance half way up, shadows off, and everything else medium-ish.

Groups and 10m instances I've run so far are all 50-60fps. Dalaran is the ONLY place that slows down below 40.

Maybe my hands aren't all that oily, but the fingerprints on my system aren't that noticeable (black)

Its a low-gloss black, its not matte, but its not glossy like car paint either.

Man, I just bought a projector and can't wait to game on the M11x with it and the projector. I also snagged a VGA cable from my offices extra stuff. On my lunch breaks I game on my office monitor. I have a feeling I'm going to be stay late for a while. It's like my portable gaming system. I use an external USB game controller. I might grab an extra keyboard for office gaming too since we have a bunch extra... :D

I honestly can't imagine that it takes that much power to run WOW at max settings. After all the game is pretty old, and I've seen some PCs run WOW well with only a Peryn processor and weakish graphics. (i.e. MacBook Air, Voodoo Envy 133)

In a room with sunlight, or a moderately lit room, it isn't bad, but you cant see anything if you feel like busting out the lappy in a park on a bright and sunny day or in a extremely bright room.

Look up motioninjoy. The latest version also lets you "trick" the computer into thinking it's a XBOX360 controller as well, which is awesome since it saves you the trouble of having to assign buttons for most games that support controllers. I've never managed to get it working with bluetooth, I just use a USB cable.

Whats up with the graphics drivers, is everyone still using the outddated dell 188's?

I'm on 196's but I'm not convince they provide the best battery life. For some reason I can't get more than 3-4 hours off a full charge after reinstalling windows, i'm on Integrated GPU. I might have to just revert to the Dell Drivers.

Does this mean we're pretty much stuck waiting on Dell to update their video drivers? (read: this never happens)

I was gonna uninstall it since i dont really rate McAfee but if i got a free 1 yr deal then i might try it out for a bit.

14.1 in. running windows 7...I was only wondering about the windows rating system..if my machine really is that close to the m11x in terms of the components I highlighted (ram, hdd, processor) or is it just a flawed rating system overall?

So you're saying the windows experience index should not be a reference when comparing systems, correct? I understand the m11x is a better machine than my hp (and most hps for that matter), but was just curious why the low scores given. In reference to the Alien FX touting...its cool and all, but its only a lighting effect  :p
