    1. no way, dont worry about it overheating. remember too that most times it'll be running at a lower clock speed then the current systems, and they're fine.

    2. unless you do vid or photo editing on the level of addiction, stick with 4gb. that's what i have, and with a game running it uses about 60-70% of the total ram.

    3. you're right, boot times and loading games are going to be the only places where you'll see significant bumps. personally, stick with a hdd. you can always upgrade later if you so desire. (lots of options doing it yourself, no need to worry)

    4. i have the 160 gb drive, and with games, music, video, and photos, i still have like 60gb free. imo, stick with the 250, or if you're worried about it, the 320.

    5.personally, i7+4gb+250gb hdd.

    hope this helps. :D

    Sound advice. :)

I have the first gen model with the SU7300 4GB RAM + 500GB HDD and it's awesome. You will be able to play games well on the M11X. :)

Click that link, then click the Select icon button on the M11x page that loads. Then click Customize on the 2nd option, the one labeled standard it has the i5 and you can upgrade to the i7 if you like.

Question regarding the name plate. I ordered on dell.ca and no where was I able to specify what I wanted on the name plate. It says on my order Standard Nameplate

Do I have to call dell phone service of hell or Nameplate customization is not available in Canada?

I just noticed the Razer in that pic. I actually just ordered that mouse this week, I'm getting it tomorrow. I've been using a Gigabyte notebook bluetooth mouse, and it's too small for my hand. Cramping galore. Just a liiiittle bit bigger would do it.

And I know it's a waste, but I also sprung for the ludicrous $20 Razer mouse pad. They sold me by virtue of the fact I can use it to protect the notebook screen in transit. Yeah, I'm an easy mark. :D

I need help looking for a website...

I can't remember for the life of me and I used it several times. Its a website that allows you to click and choose what you want to download..like hulu app, firefox, dvd burn applications and this site builds a downloader program for you and installs all of those applications in one swoop! Any ideas what the site is??

Anyone else having problems with the Failsafe software/bios not working? Firstly the failsafe program froze when looking at the bios( at some point during auto setup) and will not activate telling me I need to call dell and receive a "Failsafe compatible bios" from them... I have had a dell technician at my house to replace my motherboard twice because of this and the problem still persists. I cannot use the security page in the bios (cant move up or down i can only set a bios password) to tab down to the Failsafe options or to even set an "Asset Tag" on the laptop. Dell seems to have their thumbs up their on this one, no one at dell can give me a straight answer on whats wrong with this. The Bios is AO4 most recent. Another problem I have noticed is that there should be a "Computrace" option(disable/enable permanent toggle) under the security page as well(if you read the manual it says this) this was hidden with the first AO1 bios update, and I am surprised that dell would send out a manual stating that the user can change something that obviously is not there...

The laptop works perfectly fine, but I find it odd that this problem seems unresolvable unless dell fixes their bios. Go check for yourself and see if it works...

sorry for the long post and I have a Core 2 duo model with 4gig ram and win 7 home if that helps anyone out.

"Rambler358" and "Shaggathai" also had a few posts about this problem about 20 pages back that seem to have gone unnoticed... here is the quote:

Silly question to ask perhaps, but did you purchase the failsafe/computrace option when purchasing the M11x?

It could be that the M11x doesn't support it (I can't find it on the US website as a buyable service for the M11x), however I do recall that it was offered when the M11x was first released.

Read through the many threads on it already, especially the benchmark ones. No one but you knows if what you do needs the difference in performance, especially with cost thrown in if that is a concern.

So glad that we don't have any M11XR2 envy. ;) Still satisifed with R1 maybe three or four FPS less but love the longer battery life. But as for those who expected a large FPS increase with the new CPU'S and did'nt get it I can only say "I feel your pain"

My invoice says that I have one year of it. I got the complete care warranty that covers all the bumps, spills etc. I think it is more of a bios problem than an account problem though. I also looked for it under services and couldn't find any of the sort, at the very least they are giving out free 1 year trials of it though.

    Any other ideas?

Weird... My M11x was freezing up every so often while browsing the web. Turns out it was my Power Brick thingy that was getting too hot and not my laptop. That's... Weird. Guess I shouldn't keep it hooked up when I don't need it to be.

The way I found this out was feeling it when my laptop froze and I found the brick was very hot whole my laptop was cool. I put the charger next to my big fan and my laptop has not frozen yet.

This may be entirely normal, because I haven't owned a gaming laptop before this one so I lack experience, but I find that whenever I game on my M11x, the framerate acts differently to my Desktop PC. On my Desktop PC, the whenever the framerate dips or rises, it will dip or rise smoothly. It either gets higher or lower, with no noticable hiccups. With the M11x however, the framerate changes very suddenly, and whenever it does change, there is a significant pause between changes. For example, if I am looking at a wall and I'm getting 80 FPS, then I turn to the right, bringing a demanding scene into view, as I turn to the right one or two frames will freeze for a couple milliseconds, then the framerate will dip. Even if it dips to 35 or something something similar, there is still a pause. The same thing would happens if I looked back at the wall.

I've probably described a common problem, but I've never experienced this on any of my Desktop computers, and it is incredibly annoying.

If this isn't normal, could someone suggest what could be causing this? I read about some people experiencing popping and sudden framerate dips, and someone found that disabling the power options in their Realtek HD settings fixed it, but I have tried this and it didn't change anything.

    Edit:

I just went through every running process, and I think this might actually be due to Steam autodownloading updates and hogging the CPU all the time. I have over 130 games on there so it's always doing something. The jumpiness seemed to improve quite a bit if I close Steam.

    Hi, guys!

    About R1 vs. R2:

I'm looked at the benchmarks and saw a very poor difference in 1-2 fps. And I know that R1's battery life better than R2's.
So if this correct does R2 has any major proses at all?

I'm going to buy M11x and need your advise. Thank you!

until we see some benchmarks with CPU intensive games (ie GTA IV), it's hard to tell if the R2 is worth the 150-300 buck hop. I say hold your horses for a lil longer. :p

i would just say go for the r2. the cpu is one of the items in notebooks which can not be upgraded after the purchase, whatever you get you are stuck with. other things can be upgraded by the user: ram, hard drive. so i say go for the best cpu and upgrade the other parts later. 2 gb of ram can be changed for 4 gb, a 160 gb hdd can be replaced with a 500 gb hdd, but a i7, i5 or su7300 will be that computers cpu and is not able to be upgraded.

This is a very good point. I'd add, though, that if you buy a new laptop every year or two, the little bit of boost the I7 provides for like $200 more probably isn't worth it. Put that $200 towards buying the new laptop earlier if it matters. Of course if you plan to use it for years, I'd go with what 1201NFTW said.

Hi everyone, I have a quick question about World of Warcraft Preinstall Edition on m11x i7. I selected World of Warcraft Preinstall Edition when building this machine, but now I kind of regret it because 1- I think it will take longer for them to build the machine and ship it. 2- I dont know how do they install the game Is it done by person or is it done by default, I dont really understand how is it installed. i am always kind of super careful & gentle with my machines so I really dont want anybody touching my machine before me. Do you think anybody can help me with this question? Thank you for your time and understanding guys.

The fan on my R1 doesn't run constantly- It works as it should. In fact, I've yet to have a single problem with performance nor structural issues. :)
