YAY!! new video driver, and it dont say beta!! go to the dell site and check it out!!![]()
-
-
awesome I'll check it out.
bummer shows 197.12 so.. it's nothing new is it really -
ya its a new one, before they had the 188.== and the beta 197.12, now they have the 197.12 beta and the 197.72 non beta, so this is nice, i really hope they keep up the driver support like this, considering the lappy came out in Feb, 3 drivers so far thats great, I've had lappys before after 3 years only 1 driver.
-
theres also a new intel sata one it looks like. idk what it is tho
-
Does the m11x run Rainbow Six Vegas (1)? It's just E6,69 so I might buy it..
-
It should beable to... The m11x can play Crysis and Assassian's Creed 2 quite well so I don't see why the first vegas game wouldn't run.
-
Sorry, wrong thread.
-
my mistake
-
I just placed an order for the M11X, is there any known issue(s) I need to check upon the machine's arrival?
-
The main one is probably the hinge issue.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/493140-m11x-hinge-discussion-r1-r2.html -
many have issue with not being able to boot windows when overclocked.
laptop woobles and would not seat flat on the table.
keys touch screen when closed leaving key marks on the screen.
and the one noah14 just mentioned. -
Guys, can your m11x play GTA : IV well???
-
well? no, playable? up to you, I beat EFLC all on M11x with some parts of low fps frustration but I was able to do it.. with 360 controller. 24 hours of gameplay. don't think I'd want to play GTA IV for 50+ hours though at stuttering fps up and down though
-
welll...if you consider an average 20 fps good enough, yeah. it's a struggle though..
(i will admit i've logged like 80 hrs on it... sooo not that bad lol!
)
-
You can actually get pretty decent fps is you fully optimize it. I'm still searching for a good guide to do so though; most are pretty confusing.
-
if you find a good one, let us know pls. i've done as much as i've been able to find and well... just mediocre results lol.
-
you can fix the wobble by adjusting the screw on the base cover.
-
I just saw a intel ssd video on youtube, does it really boost gaming performance a lot? They are really expensive.
-
an ssd wont boost performance at all. it just speeds up the loading times.
-
But it´s worth it
-
has anyone done a clean install and put that newest video driver just released a few days ago, cause I had some issues with the beta one where I'd be playin then fps whould drop like in half and I fould in nvidia control panel some settings had just changed on they own so I think the bata was glitchy, anyone else had this prob? thx
-
umm.... no.
i'm running the beta. no probs with it... and i've been pushing it pretty hard.
-
lol maybe its worth it. i mean if you can stand loading times. then you'll be fine. college budget for me so maybe my upgrade will be the momentus XT. been hearing decent things about it.
-
I recently put a Seagate Momentus XT in my wife's laptop. Definitely an improvement over a standard 7200rpm notebook, and a good "middle of the road" drive that balances speed, capacity, and price.
Personally, I am a performance junkie, so I would take the $160 and get an OCZ Vertex 60GB drive instead. But if you need storage capacity more than you need extra speed, you won't go wrong with the Seagate Momentus XT. -
Hey guys I got something else I'm workin on so I cant keep my Best buy version of this laptop, its 2 months old and have box, its new condition and extra powercord and 500gb hd, and i even ordered a bluetooth module for the inside thats due to arrive today, make a decent offer and Ill sell it, email me at [email protected]
MUST SELL
-
Just out of curiosity, why did you think the best place to put up an ad is a thread for people who already own the laptop?
-
Hi guys, I've been trying to figure out whether it's possible to overclock this machine past 1.7GHz (actually my system only goes up to 1.6). If anyone is able to enlighten me, please do
Note: I have a C2D SU7300. -
right now, NO. unless... see here
e: post #132 sums it pretty well i think... -
Just got this baby today and was in love with it instantly
Is there any article on battery maintenance? -
Just as an FYI to everyone, Anandtech just released their article / review of the Alienware M11x R2:
Alienware M11x R2: A Legend Reborn - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News -
I used this article a few years ago to find out tips on battery maintenance:
How to prolong lithium-based batteries
There are a lot of tips in here that relate to storing lithium ion batteries at 40% charge, for longest life. That obviously does not apply to us, since the Alienware M11x batteries are internal. However, there are some other useful tips in here that DO apply:
- Lithium ion batteries prefer a partial discharge then recharge, instead of a full deep discharge. Since Li Ion batteries do not have a "memory" like old NiCad or NiMH batteries, there is no disadvantage to partial discharge/recharges.
- Store your batteries in a cool, dry place whenever possible. Avoid hot cars, avoid direct sunlight. This is good advice in general for something like a laptop.
-
This is from the above mentioned article:
Thankfully, that process is not necessary, so if you have an M11x R2 and Dell hasn't released a new driver then you'll want to disable the "DW WLAN Tray Service" service and kill the WLTRAY.exe process. (I used msconfig.exe to disable both.)
Is this something we need to do with the R1? BTW I changed out the OEM wifi card so would I need this WLAN tray service anyways?
Spiff -
because some of the smart ones go to forums that discuss the laptop there thinking of getting before they actully buy, and wht do ya know theres my ad!
-
Any game can be played by the m11x?
and is there a game that can not be played by the m11x?
one more question, whether for the next two years, m11x still worth wearing?
thanks -
if I wear a standard hhd with 5400 rpm, will affect fps in games?
once again thx
-
i dont think so. unless you figure some type of loading into that
-
The Alienware M11x is not a top-end gaming computer. It isn't even a bang-for-your-buck gaming computer. If you want a machine that can play games really well today, and still play games well 2 years from now, then take the $1000 you would have spent on an Alienware M11x and buy yourself a desktop gaming PC instead.
The reason that people like the Alienware M11x is because it is a small laptop that runs games very well for its size. It will get 30fps - 50fps in most games at medium or medium-high settings. For a gaming computer, that performance isn't that great. For a 4.5lb 11.6" laptop, that performance is spectacular. The value of an M11x is its size and portability. If that is important to you, then get an M11x. If you'd rather have a very powerful gaming computer, then get a larger laptop or a desktop gaming PC. -
Is Splinter Cell Conviction unplayable? I got this message that says gt335 is not supported and the screen just stays at desktop while the sound of the game is playing.
Update: Playable after patch. -
IS there anyway to actually get the cpu to clock to 1.73? im only getting 1.6 with overclocking enabled....
-
Something's wrong then. It should be 1.73 when OC'd...
-
Question about the driver of the Dell Wireless WLAN 1520 Half MiniCard and Intel Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100, I just need one of them, right? I dunno why I cant install the wifi link 5100 one.
-
cuz probably you don't have the 5100 card.
it comes with the 1520.
-
Which cpu do you have...the P4 can only get to 1.6, the core2 7300 should get to 1.73 no problems. Try enabling/disabling speedstep to see if it makes a difference to the speed.
-
I don't think so. the Pentium and the CD2 O'C the same, it just depends on the program you use to check it. (for example, CPU-Z says 1.6, SetFSB says 1.73)
-
Never OC' if your planing to Upgrade the sound system externaly. Bad results FYI
-
i have the 7300. i was using cpu-z. y does it show 1.6 then?
-
If I remember right, there was a known issue with that. For some reason cpu-z won't recognize the 1.73. If you are seeing it in SetFSB, then it's truly 1.73.
-
I have an original m11x. Is it possible to upgrade to the newer processors? Dell say not, but all Alienware laptops in the past have been upgradable.
-
Dell is correct. You can't just upgrade the processor in this case. You would need a new mobo, etc and it would probably be cheaper just getting a new M11X.
-
Not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for the info. Why is a new motherboard necessary? Will the old board not do or is the processor surface mounted or something?
