Some how managed to pick up antivir solutions pro (virus/mlware), I got it removed but my system now has a hiccup... every 20 seconds while playing battlefield 2 my guy has a stroke and apears in random places near where I was just standing... kind of annoying when trying to shoot someone in the head.
I got the virus from bittorrent client (the actually bittorrent downloader program) -
i'd check your background processes for something using lots of cpu every so often -

My M11x seems to run cooler on discrete gpu than integrated
37-40C on discrete and 44-45C on integrated when just surfing the web. IS that normal?
-
is that after you reboot, btw? i've never had much luck with the GPU turning itself off..
-
Now officially an owner
-
Yep now also an official owner U7300, OCed of course - had all sorts of problems with the switchable graphics not switching, about re reinstall the OS - I think all my stuffing around has buggered the system.
But on a positive note my M11x also has a 5530 WWAN card including a working GPS (had to run new aerials for the 5530 card) but all working now, not that I can find a practical use for the GPS mind u -
@philby: I almost had the same problem as you with the switchable graphics but I did a system restore and everything's running just peachy. -
OP, I think you should add user stevenxowens792's BC 2 optimization thread too, it is very informative.

just got my alienware U7300 from best buy, yahoo
forgive my ignorance but how do i OC this baby -
Option 1 - simply swap the WLAN aerials for the WWAN and you good to go - just don't try and connect to any wireless network cos it ain't got any reception.
Option 2 - Take a breath and disassemble you new lap top including stripping the screen out so you can trace new aerials following the path of the WLAN aerials. Once done you two will hopefully have a fully functional WWAN card & a working laptop.
My aerials were from the mini 9 - the mobo died and I used both the WWAN 5530 card plus pulled the aerials from the display and fitted these into the M11x. It's a tad fiddley especially around the screen as the cover has to be pulled off then the screen unscrewed so you can follow the WLAN aerial trace into the mobo.
If you don't need your old system you can pull the card and then just buy new aerials on fleabay - if you really don't need your system you can pull the aerials out to. -

I just ordered the m11x-R1! I am so excited but 2 quick questions:
1-I ordered the it with 2gb of ram because I thought $100 to upgrade to 4gb(Canada) was to expensive; I can buy the ram for cheaper. So is the 2gb 1 dim or 2?
2-I was told that I will recieve it in 2 weeks. The only option I went for is the 3 year warrenty, other then that it is a stock m11x-R1. So is it really going to take that long or it it a conservitve deadline and I can expect it sooner?
Thanks in advance for your help, I'm so excited I have been browsing this forum religously for months with envy, and now that I have ordered it it seems surreal -
It's 2 sticks. You'll need to purchase a 4GB kit.
-
After three months of ownership I am still useing the M11x as my main computer for older games BIOSHOCK, FSX and Rise Of Nations. Still happy whith the R1, but these days I find my self looking close at the hinges.
Is it just me or is it strange that such a simple thing to manufacture would be the one thing I worry about the most? -
my clock now reads 1733Mhz as per my cpu usage gadget
-
I think that there's a lot of talk about hinges and unfortunately, people are going to think about it. My hinges are sound and if they ever have a problem, I'll get Dell right on it.

Worry now, procrastinate later! -
hey guys,
allow me a maybe-noob question..
I am on the verge of buying an M11X and looking for the best option to buy it.
I live in the Netherlands, however, I was planning to get it from the US as it seems to be cheaper over there. My plan is to get the M11X ordered by my cousin who's living in NYC, and he'd bring it over to me in September.
So the questions are:
The prices which I can see on the US Dell site includes tax, or not? if not, what tax rate should I calculate with?
warranty: should any problem occur with the machine, I guess Dell has a worldwide warranty service, right?
Thanks for your replies,
sis3 -
i dont think it does. the tax will be 8.25% if there is any

Hi All,
I am getting my R1 on Monday, and I am so excited about the new portable gaming monster.
I have a couple of quick questions here:
1. What is the latest video driver for R1? I've seen a lot of talks about R2 driver. I am just wondering if the driver on Dell's website is the most recent and stable one? (which usually isn't, right?) or where should I get a good version of a stable video driver? And this baby is using some sorts of special driver, called a "hybrid" driver because of the integrated Intel card?
2. I've unboxing videos about M11x, and it seems that it comes with a disc in the package. Is it the recovering disc? or in another an image for the recovering partition (Don the hard drive? If so, I was going to delete the partition to safe some space.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. Happy to join the M11x community! -
Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the club.
I've found that sticking with the hybrid driver from Dell's website to be the best option (for me anyway) but others here will most assuredly have differing opinions.
As for the disc that comes with the M11X (Really wish that they would have used a USB-based thumb drive), It has come in handy when I was messing around with drivers (I bought an ASUS external BluRay drive). I kept the recovery partition in place but then again I have the 500GB hard drive, plus external storage. In my mind, it's better to be safe than sorry. -
I just received "mine" via Fedex this weekend. For the past few months my g/f kept bugging me about her laptop was bogging down, running out of disk space, and overall just plain falling apart. So I had enough of listening to her so I got her a completely new setup: m11x (i7-640, 4GB, HP2310m external monitor, Logitech Illuminated Keyboard).
Now my problem is I can't get her to shut up about how awesome StarCraft II looks, or how many FPS she gets in WoW at high settings. zomg. It most definitely is a sweet little machine though. Barely larger than a netbook and more powerful than my own laptop (C2D T7500 @ 2.2GHz). That little m11x really lays down some impressive numbers for its size. Video playback at 1920x1080 (on external monitor) is smooth as glass. The only things I would have asked for are one more USB port, maybe USB 3.0 support, and a faster processor for HD video rendering. Don't get me wrong, the i7-640um has plenty of horsepower for most apps/games, but for serious crunching, I would pay a little extra for a non-lowvoltage CPU, even if it means giving up some battery life.
Overall, the m11x is probably the best netbook/notebook I don't own. -
Ok guys I got my m11x today. Its really great and all but when I open up my Control Panel (only the first time) it freezes up Windows explorer closes and resets.
after that, it works perfectly when I open it up.
any suggestions? -
I know mine freezes if I try to do anything right after i fire it up... but not quite that predictable. -
Why is this not stickied
Its been a while since I posted but I'm glad the community is still going strong!!!!
Just updated my bios to A05. Have to say still lovin this little guy 6 months down the line - SSD was the best upgrade for speed and starcraft 2 works great so far.
I did some digging around but can't find any mention - have M11x R1 users got 2XX.XX Nvidia's running with switchable graphics yet? -
Hey guys,
I just got my M11x a week ago. I haven't really decided to install any games yet until I move stuff from my desktop to this. But one day as school, my friend gave me Need for Speed Carbon, so I though why not. I changed all settings to max, but it lags horribly in game. I still want the settings as max..
Is there anyway to make it not lag at all? This is kinda disappointing...
Thanks -
Got my m11x about a week ago. Tried to load linux on it but failed. I wiped out my recovery and OEM partition out by accident, I was following steps online to recover the system back to the way it was, but they had me delete the partitions and then reinstall using the disk. >.< Anyway I tried restoring the partitions to no avail. Is there anywhere that I can download the factory.wim file? Thanks.

I have the R1 with non-switch discrete card loaded on from the BIOS. Every so often when I play Starcraft 2 (I'm not sure if it's unique to SC2 since it's the only game I've been playing) but sometimes in a middle of a game, my SC2 pulls a window switch on me. This has happened numerous times and I think it may be 1 time per SC2 session. Anybody else having this problem?
I'm hoping its me accidentially pressing CLT ESC but I doubt that's the case. -
Just received mine today. Probably going to spend the rest of the night installing things, doing configurations, etc.

Actually I'd make a small counter argument to what you just said. For the most part, it's not hard to get most games out there running @ HIGH....but at native resolutions or 720p but you will have to take a hit somewhere to get it (i.e., turning off AA). And while it is pretty hard to say that a laptop that can be optioned over $1k to be a laptop of value, it's the cheapest ticket to having a gaming laptop. Of course the best "futureproof" setup is a desktop rig, but due to all the PC games being punted over to consoles, graphics requirements haven't really climbed all that much recently. I'd go out on a limb and say that PC requirement for games aren't going to go up for the next year.
Either way, the M11x isn't going to perform much better than a low-end built desktop so don't get your expectations too high. -
On this discussion of the M11x being a top end gaming machine, I think that the definition is out of date or at least the paradigm has expanded.
There used to only be one dimension... how much powerz can you get, and desk bound systems lead the way on that.
Gaming laptops are turning out great power these days and offer a luggable level of portability.
Now we have gaming on the go with the M11x, not the fastest but certainly the most portable. -
I just wish we had 258.xx drivers for the R1.
Edit: *HK-47 voice* Quick clarification! 258.xx drivers that allow switching between discrete 335m and the Intel GMA. -

Random question: is there a way to get the leds to 'morph' back to the first color? From what I've observed, it morphs from the 1st color to the 2nd, then jumps back to the 1st.

Hey everyone. My brother just bought the m11x R1 with following specs (arriving friday):
Intel Pentium SU4100 @1.6GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
320GB HDD 7200rpm
NVIDIA 335M
I just wanted to know what all of your experiences are with it (especially in terms of gaming). Also, he likes the look of all the games I can play on my laptop so I was wondering if this laptop would have similar gaming capabilities as mine (my specs in my sig). Would it be a safe bet to assume that all games should run ok on this laptop if they do on mine?
Thanks! -
Just thought I'd say hi, soon-to-be proud owner here. If FedEx tracking is accurate, I'll have my M11x in hand on Monday, 9/13. My wife was looking at getting me an ASUS N1215 when they came out, but I found a 20% off refurbs code for these babies, and she agreed to get one instead! This is actually my first portable computer ever; I've always built my own desktops for gaming. I'm really looking forward to the first time I can set up in public for some on-the-go gaming!
On a side note, I ordered the portfolio case with it, and it came in yesterday. I noticed though that the alien head on the front of it is way off-center to the left compared to the stock pictures on the Dell site. I noticed a few pics here in the forum of other people's off-center too. I'm wondering if anyone has theirs centered correctly. -
Evening (or morning) everyone. I'm having an issue with Stalker: Call of Pripyat; it's only using one of my cores (I'm on a C2D R1 M11x, 4 gigs of ram, etc on Windows 7 64 bit). I'll ask this in the gaming thread as well but I've looked all over the place and I haven't come up with much. Any idea how I could make it utilize both cores instead of mainly one? For an example, it's splitting both of them like this: First core is at 80-90%, second is usually around 10%.

I keep my "official" Dell drivers as I like using the integrated GPU with the battery when surfing the net at friends or my girlfriend's place. Prevents me from having to recharge after a quick gaming session. I almost wonder if it's worth it to upgrade -or if Dell will let me- to an i-core R2, but I like my R1. (Besides, it's already half paid off.)

Just ordered my m11x R1 from the Dell outlet. I purchased a "Previously Ordered New" version so its brand new and never actually used...Anyway I have a question...under ALL of the refurbished orders they list "Alienware TactX keyboard" as part of the package...Are they just talking about the keyboard on the laptop? OR are they actually going to include the $99 Alienware Tactx keyboard (USB)? Its weird to list that since its a given the laptop has a keyboard on it. Especially since when you customize a new one and look at the final SPECS, it doesnt list a "Alienware TactX Keyboard".

Hi everyone,
I need help real quick! I can pick up a slightly used M11X with the following specs:
Core 2 Duo SU7300
4 Gig RAM
250GB HDD 7200 RPM
Comes with everything like box and papers and is super clean. $600 even. Should I do it? Is the Core 2 Duo any good compared to i7? -
OH hell yea, definetly...thats a great price. The i7 is amazing, but you will only see 5-10% difference really. The system is bottlenecked by the GPU no matter which way you spin it. The core 2 overclocked is just as fast as those other CPU's in real world environments.
-
Thanks for the awesome quick reply! -
Well what I mean is the GPU is good, especially for an 11inch notebook, but its no 260gtx. You can have the best GPU on the market, but only have an old single core P4, your processor is going to hold you back. Same goes for best of the best processors, but with limited GPU's. I didnt think the price difference to an i7 warranted the purchase since TESTS show the difference isnt big AT all. Its a very small difference to be honest in games, real world scenarios. If you have the money to spend, sure why not max everything out and have the best 11inch notebook in the world? But I bought this thing for the affordability...if I wanted to spend 1500-2000 I would probably target the Sony Z.
