Update on my headset search. There seems to be a lack of information about gaming headsets. All the research I've read seems to contradict itself but then again everybody has a differnet opinion.

Anyhow my aim was to see if it was possible to get some 5.1 headphones and link it to the sound card. I've had a couple of replies on here which I'm thankful for and has aided my task.

The underlying fact is that if you want 5.1 on this (remember I'm looking for just a set of cans which I can plug in directly) then you have to go with USB which means bypassing the card and using a built in decoder.

All the reviews I've read on these basically say no no.

So the one alternative which has 99% positive feedback and was recommended earlier on this thread is for the Sennheiser PC350 which has two jacks for the mic and speaker. Theses aren't cheap as it cost me £110 yesterday but it appears they are head and shoulders above anything else for gaming.

Use acetone (nail polish remover), or an alcohol of some sort. Be careful, acetone/alcohols will dissolve anything that water can't, so it's possible that acetone/alcohol will ruin the finish of the PC.

Don't use acetone. Use isopropyl alcohol, much more safer.

Why not just use a slightly damp cloth and then follow up with a wipe from a microfiber? I would never use IA or acetone.

It's been posted somewhere in these threads but if I do a clean install, where can I find the Alienware files? Is there a custom boot screen? Or is it just wallpapers I'll be missing out on? Thanks

    Hi,
from today I can say, welcome to the club of M11x owners! :D

My order was on the 23/02 and it arrived today ... ... really very fast!

I had the time for a first look. Very nice machine! No dead pixels and great build quality. It feels much more expencive as it was. Sadly I have to work now and this evening so I can start to play with it tomorrow. But good to know that it is here ... :D

    Greetings,
    Sascha

Got some vodka around? Crude method, but if it is a grease stain, then use that.
Sure its a crude method, but it gets the job done.

I ordered 2/22 with an EDD of 3/23.

I sprang for the Bluetooth module and ordered a Radtech BT600 bluetooth mouse which will be here tomorrow. At least I'll have plenty of time to test the mouse before the laptop arrives...

yeah I wanted to free up all the space I had on my SSD since GB are a premium and Dell used up 15GB for the recovery partition. I have done enough installs to be able to install from USB/DVD without need of a recovery partition. Also hoping to improve SSD speeds via a partition alignment. So far write speeds have increased from 5-10MB/s and read speeds dropped 3-5MB/s on my preliminary benchmarks on seq.

Hey guys, if anyone is interested in the Razer Orochi bluetooth mouse and Razer Kabuto mousepad, Newegg is having a combo deal. You can get both of them for $73 + shipping. Shipping was $7 something to NY. No sales tax for most people!

Pretty good deal considering the mouse goes for $69.99 at most places. I'm still on the fence because I hate paying for shipping :)

Running in OC mode with no problems here so far. Just like to say what an awesome machine this is and I am definitely glad I purchased it.

Thanks for the advice, unfortunety it doesn't do anything... It doesn't give me an error, but it doesn't do anything to change anything either... Oh well 1280x720 is fine, it just looks a little "off" since it's not native...

Anyone else get CS 1.6 to run 1366x768?

I don't know the specifics of the battery life of the orochi but if you plug it in, it won't be using the battery life = you can extend it. I would suggest using rechargables. I have the orochi and it is very nice. I thought it would be too small but it isn't. If you have large hands, you might want to check it out first.

About the mamba, I highly suggest you don't get it. If you are going to be portable with your machine and your mouse, the mamba is not portable at all. If you want a bigger gaming mouse than the orochi, I suggest you looking at the sidewinder x8. They have a puck thing for a receiver, pretty big, but it's more portable than that of the mamba.

Guys regarding the Orochi, I ordered one before I got my Alienware Laptop assuming I chose the bluetooth option, apparently I didn't lol. So I know its possible to use it while wired but if I were to buy a bluetooth dongle would that work aswell?

you can use it wired and wireless. You don't need bluetooth to use it as wired.

I have an Orochi Bluetooth mouse (no Kabuto) and I am really enjoying it with my M11x. It did feel a bit small at first but it has such a solid feel to it that just about anyone can become accustomed to it rather quickly. Also, in part 3 I posted information about Sanyo Eneloop rechargable batteries. These batteries are simply amazing. I bought 8 of them almost 2 years ago and they are still holding almost full charges. Each batter is the equivalent of 1000.

Here is a chart comparing Eneloops to other rechargables.
