Up there with a stock 7970M if only it didn't throttle in the combined test lol

Can I ask if the GTX 675MX is plug and play when connecting to the board or grinding/ modification of the card is required like the 7990/6990 etc...

I understand that we will need a modded inf file to install the drivers~

I'm also getting massive throttling in combined test. I've achieved 6200 graphics and around 6000 physics with a combine score of 5100 but not all at the same time!

Should point out that I got a higher graphics and physics score with OC but combined score was only 2960 due to heavy throttling.

    This is everything at stock

Yup 7970M throttles alot in combined test. Unfortunately there isn't a way around this other than to cripple CPU performance which will impact score even more lol so pointless. For me I don't care. 7970M still owns 675MX in game. Unless of course suddenly a game appears that can simultaneously stress both 920xm at 3.3ghz and 7970M OCed at 100% all the time. Luckily that time hasn't come yet...

Just for comparison I ran 950/1400 OC on 7970m and no OC in cpu.
The combined score takes a bit of a hit but graphics score improves.

Interesting! What clocks do you have 7970m at? It may have caused you to lose some combined score running that high.

Well this is a shock. Nvidia's 675MX OCed heavily is as good as the 7970M OCed! I didn't expect that. I guess my card might just about be able to pull level with the score rifi managed due to 50mhz faster vram however only those that overvolt their 7970M's and push over 1ghz and 1500mhz will be able to leave the 675MX behind. Unfortunately this doesn't mean us M15x owners lol!

So basically 675MX is actually a very good buy for the M15x perhaps the best considering all the driver support NVidia give and the power efficiency of kepler! I have to agree we must look very closely at the 770M GTX when it releases it might out perform the 8970M without a too much higher price tag while having all the other perks NVidia cards bring. Question is which card is better in games. 7970M or 675MX?

I believe it was 950mhz core and 1300mhz memory.

770M should also have a 75w TDP so we should be able to cool it properly too.

I think for gaming at stock the 7970m will win here, but overclocking the 675mx will bring them very close.

The question here is, does the 675MX throttle in game running stock with an extreme processor overclocked by a bit.

Hmm you had lower clocks (mine was 950/1400) yet you got 200 more graphics score than me. Any reasonable explanation for that?

Nice overclock. Riri is that stable for gaming? écurie pour jouer à des jeux? lol :)

I've reverted back to stock clocks on 7970m for gaming due to getting a few random shutdowns while gaming :(

I had my laptop extreme cooled during the test so most likely mine didn't throttle as much during the gpu test. Max cpu was like 48C and max gpu was like 58C.

Another thing we need to note is, Riri-Fifi is using the 820QM processor. Our extreme editions have a higher TDP so it might help with performance in OP's case.

If the card didn't throttle at all with a 920XM or 940XM then we have a true winner.

What is this extreme cooling you speak of? I'm thinking about using a 200mm PC case fan on my cooling pad so air entering fans is always 'cool' :)

I'm starting to think I should have got a 820 or 840QM instead of 940XM lol! Lower TDP would mean more power for graphics cards. No new games use much processing power :(

Found the picture. Basically I took off the back cover, used a tall slim (fan?) and put the laptop on top of it. The fan blew cold air into the CPU & GPU while I ran 3DMark11. Here's the pic: [IMG]

Up until you'd need a cpu overclock to keep the gpu from holding back of course.

Really? I'll nab your 940xm if you downgrade ;) for testing of course :D With Planetary Annihilation coming out and BF4 (we know how BF3 would have made the 820qm cry for milk) I think a downgrade is a mistake. However also the 940xm is a little overkill. 920xm does the trick with perhaps a shade less voltage.

Is 920xm really lower voltage? I am a fool! Hey if you wanted to swap for awhile for testing I wouldn't mind as long as postage wasn't too much.

I am not entirely sure but the chips are basically the same it is just the 940xm "could go a little faster" however this requires a higher tdp and heat output. Something the M15x won't handle well. The M17x R2 is better suited for both chips unfortunately. You can even overvolt them slightly in the bios with that machine.

I just tested the other day 25x 100% load across all cores and no matter the tdp 1 core quckly shut off. Not enough voltage.

At 24x it was fine but temps hit 97C on hottest core lol. Video encoding I used to do 25x 100% load and hit about 95C on hottest core stable. So Prime 95 is more strenuous than video encoding!

If I can keep the cpu below 90C however on hottest core then even in Prime 95 25x should be stable :D

The 920XM and 940XM are pretty much the same chips and use the same power. The 940XM is a better bin of the 920XM that has the multiplier increased by one, but also allows you to overclock using the multiplier and not just the turbo multiplier.

What is the difference between the multi and turbo multi?

Ok I think I understand what you mean. On 920xm can only choose 9-15x and turbo. I don't see benefits of being able to choose 9-30x or what ever and turbo though.

On the 940XM you can overclock using the turbo multipliers (same way we do it to the 920XM) or the base multiplier for the cpu (940XM).

The base overclock has an advantage that it doesn't have temperature/power/time restrictions that intel's turbo boost has. Turbo boost doesn't run 24/7 whereas a overclock increasing the base multiplier would make it a 24/7 overclock if you wanted it to.

It would help in benchmarks. Turbo overclocking is fine though.

Also when I mean temperature/power etc I mean within the limits of the cpu of course.

Turbo boost overclocked clocks will fluctuate, the 940XM overclocked using the base multiplier will not, simply put.

Thanks for the clarification. I did not know that! I guess it would help also with general OC stability once you get to the chip limits too.

I would love to get my hands on one for testing!

+rep and enjoy the chip fat boy slim!
