Just post me a hardware id screenshot of your 970m card, with that info i'll be able to mod the driver inf for you and tell you how it´s done for future updates.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wikihow.com/Find-Hardware-ID?amp=1

Follow those instructions in order to get the hardware id of your card, if you dont know how to do it.-

Ok, I´ll post a step by step guide here on what you need to modify and also a modded .inf for you to test and to see if it works on your laptop.

I´ll try to keep it simple and only explain what you need to do. The first thing is to download the driver form nvidias site, extract its contents and locate the following file in the Display.Driver folder: "nvdmi.inf"

open it with a text editor and locate these lines of code:

    Screenshot_1.png

Here you need to understand the hex values meaning, look for the first line in the red marked text:

13D8 indicates the gpu model, in this case the gtx970m
02A2 indicates the laptop model, in this case my laptop, the m15x
1028 indicates the laptop manufacturer, in this case alienware
and finally section 44 indicates which part of the whole driver needs to be installed in your machine

    Screenshot_2.png

So based in the pic you posted, you´ll need to modify and change the values 02A2 for 05AA (two times) in the first line that has 13D8.
Note that I´m modifying my already modded inf, so there won´t be a 02A2 value over there next time, just change which ever is it.
The next thing is to select a section number, for the gtx970m there are allways 4 section options, 43, 44, 45 and 46 in this case. Based on my tests, the second option is the best for this laptop in particular, so I allways change the number 43 to 44.

Also note these numbers won´t always be the same, but there will be only 4 options to choose from. I just select the second one. In your case it could be different, so feel free to test which suits you better.

Finally, at almost the end of the file, locate these lines:

    Screenshot_3.png

And do the same here, change 02A2 for 05AA at the first line that has 13D8 value.

    Screenshot_4.png

That´s all you have to do, save the file, disable driver signature check and install it.-

    Hello,

Thank you for your hard work. I assume that this driver won't work with an Alienware 17 R1 with 120hz display without some changes? I have a GTX 970m installed at the moment with the most recent bios update. Am I right in assuming I just need a modded driver for this graphics card to work properly with my machine. If this is the case is this similar to that of the person on page 6 or is it specific to me?

Any help would be very much appreciated and am happy to contribute.

    Luke

Hi, you are right, this modded inf won´t work on your m17x, in order to know if the other modded inf will work or not, post a hardware id screenshot of your 970m card.
Just like the older post, with that info i'll be able to mod the driver inf for you and tell you how it´s done for future updates.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wikihow.com/Find-Hardware-ID?amp=1

Follow those instructions in order to get the hardware id of your card, if you dont know how to do it.-

    Hello,

Thank you so much. Here is the hardware ID:

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&SUBSYS_05AE1028&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&SUBSYS_05AE1028
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&CC_0300

Also I'm not sure if you'll know but I think the vbios for my card is wrong. It is 84.04.85.00.0B (Modified). I think it is for an Alienware 18 but was hoping you could confirm or knew anything.

Thank you again for all your help!

    Luke

In your case the Hardware Id for your m17x R1 is 05AE, so you should follow the same instructions that are on page 6, but using this string.

    HId.png
That way you should be able to mod the driver every time you need to.
I have also modded it for you, so you can try it and see if it works.

Check back with me if anything goes wrong.
    Good luck.-

The vbios version you posted, indeed seems to come from an m18x, it shouldn´t be an issue tho. You´ll just have to try it and see how it works.

    Hello,

Thank you for all the help so far.

Unfortunately, when I went to install it, in the very first section checking system compatibility it says this Nvidia driver is not compatible with this version of windows. This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

Should I try removing the current drivers installed using DDU?

    Thanks,

    Luke

If you post your Hardware id I could mod the latest drivers for you, but you´ll have to wait a couple of days until I get back to my PC. In the meantime you could try the steps in this post, on pages 6 and 7 which can guide you step by step to mod the driver by yourself. If you have any doubts just ask me and I´ll try to get back at you as soon as I can. Give it a try, it´s not hard, and that way you won´t have to rely on anybody to update your driver in the future.-

Hi all, i have an m17xr4 which i installed a GTX 970m in some time ago. I am coming to ask for help as i have tried everything and i cannot do it. However, I understood the method well and I managed to use my graphics card without any problems 6 months ago before windows update made me a joke. Since impossible to recognize the card or in any case to make it work ...
What version of windows 10 are you using (which build?)
If you can help me modify the inf I would be grateful to you and my children too ;) here is what interests you:
    PCIVEN_10DE & DEV_13D8 & SUBSYS_05511028

I'm trying to test other builds, I'm going to test the 1803 Redstone 4, build 17134!
    edit:
ok so I made good progress.
I saw a video tutorial on youtube:

    and I realized my mistake.
The driver installs well but the pc restarts in black screen ... it is not yet that but I advance because when I restart in unsuccessful mode the card is well detected.
I am testing with the latest version of windows

    edit edit ;) :
I hope that it does not pose a problem that I put a link on the forum.
I just want to help and especially for us to move forward and find a way out.

Ok here are the promised .inf files. Remember to download the matching driver version from Nvidia site, extract and replace the .inf file located in Display.Driver folder. Disable driver signature enforcement as shown in page 3 of this post and run the driver setup. Be sure to acept the warning message when windows tells you this is an unsigned driver and install it anyways.

The first file for the M17R1 will only work for the Quadro GPU, and the second one, for the M17R4, is only for the 970m.
Enjoy and get back at me if something goes wrong.-

Hi, thank you very much for your responsiveness, I am testing and telling you what it is.
On my side I have a black screen when restarting

    Edit :

Damn it doesn't work! "Nvidia installer failed". I realized that several sections had to be replaced for the pilot to settle down to the end.

    Edit 2 :
    So it's moving slowly:
I manage to fully install the driver by replacing all lines containing 05AB by 0551 but once restarting windows freezes.
I test with other sections ...

Well it does not work ... what sadness! Do you think it is necessary to flash the bios or the vbios?

for info, with your .inf I can't even get to the unsigned driver message, strange.

however it is certain that the non certified pilots are accepted because I am in "test" mode at the bottom right of the screen.

    Thank you

Ok, there is something I´m not following here, your´s is the M17xR4 right?
Cause there are no 05AB lines in the modded inf file I posted for you. (Download the one that says 471.41 for M17xR4)

In the group of lines containing info about the gtx970m the first one has 0551 which is the one for your laptop model.

Double check you are replacing the extracted file in the Display.Driver Folder AFTER you decompress the matching driver fron NVidias site. (Use something like 7zip to decompress the .exe file you downloaded)

These are the steps you need to follow:

    Decompress the driver
Decompress the file downloaded from here
Replace the .inf file in the mentioned folder (Display.Driver)
    Disable driver signature enforcement
Run Setup.exe from the decompresed driver

    Good luck.-

Last question where would I get a custom bios to unlock the TDP I know Prema used to do them but is there anyone else ? Also would that then require a separate INF mod ie change the hardware ids? The card is TDP. Starved they are 75 watt so it drops it's clocks thank you Again

Sorry, my bad, I keep thinking in gtx970 terms, just do a search in Tech Inferno forums for quadro m4000m, I remember an user named Klem that makes unlocked vbios for your card.

First of all hi and thank you very much, so yes I had of course tested this solution but without success.
I just restarted the same sequence and in fact the driver crashes the pc after about a minute that I authorize the execution of the driver.
I really don't see what this can come from :(

s it possible that the section is not the right one? currently it's 044 in your inf
Is it a concern of bios or vbios?
Currently I am in A15 and I do not know about the vbios because gpuz recognizes the card but not in its entirety.
come on I keep looking, this story is going crazy!
