My theory of the moment is that it could be related to some incompatibility with C++ 2010 Redistributable. I reinstalled Vantage recently, and it installs (or tries to install) an earlier version of 2010 Redist. than the one installed by a recent Windows update. May be a red herring, but haven't really had any major changes of late to account for the changed behavior.

Seems like a very plausible theory, Rev. I have a 5800 series ATI card in my desktop PC and have had a number fo problems getting CCC to install and run properly - and it appears that the C++ redistributable may be at the center of those issues. I will check the version on my M15x when I get home - and perhaps reinstall it.

awesome runs guys!!!! really want to see someone break that 12k vantage, that would be totally awesome. i think its very possible with these new ati drivers and a 940xm.
-
-
Incredible! Good run, is that the highest the memory will go? Try bumping it up to 750 (or 1500 as it reports on MSI Afterburner).
-
tried with older drivers but score was lower when memory was higher
-
Alright no problem sounds like you are doing lots of tweaking which is good to hear! Bumped me straight off that podium
-
doing my best until $ for 6970 shows up
-
Wish mine would hurry the hell up and get to my door!
-
Hey DraZziw, I just realised that you have a 900p monitor, what resolution are you running the benchmark? Just asking because your screen doesn't have the vertical resolution requirement for the default 1280x1024.
-
1280*1024 : o
-
So are you using an external? Or does Vantage have the ability to run at the desired resolution despite screen?
-
Guess so, i definitely have 1280*1024 selected...
-
No problem. +rep for a nice score.
-
Really hard to push this ES card far. May have to get a 240w charger just in case. But here it is, 14k GPU score, 21K CPU score, 15.3k overall. TDP 105/90w

Congratulations on the new card. Have fun. I suspect there is much more to be done.
-
I tried it on low CPU power settings and it shut down the same place as it did with high power CPU power settings, seems to be a card but I'm not quite sure. I'm aiming to at least reach 1000mhz on the mem.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Very interesting. That requires more study. Helluva score, any way you look at it.
What are you using to o/c the GPU? -
Trixx. Still looking into things but I'll do more this evening and find the limit.
-
looks like someone got their new toy, congrats. score is AWESOME!!!!
-
Hehehe, congrats!! Man, seem to be a fantastic card! What about the temps?
I don't think it's a power issue, especially not during vantage. I have still quite some headroom when pushing my card. The cpu test needs more power than the gpu test in vantage.
Hope you can get your hands on a kill-o-watt or so to see the power draw. Anyway, well done!!
Now my turn... I did some benching as well this evening:
3dMark11
3dMark Vantage
Cheers!
-
great job svl. cpu scores are looking great!!!!
-
Thanks!!
Oh yeah, I totally forgot... I installed the latest version of vantage for this session, and my cpu score was only at about 16k with 26x... (and the temperatures weren't a problem!)
So I uninstalled it and went back to build 1.0.2 and everything is fine again. In case you guys have problems with the cpu tests try installing this version. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Super runs, svl7. Very interesting comparison shaping up here. Thanks for the heads-up on Vantage. Been having nothing but trouble with the CPU tests, but thought it was paste issue (may still be, I'll know soon enough).
-
Been trying for hours to get the clocks up, even with CPU TPL's low, the ES card doesn't seem to want to budge at a measly 750/950. Seems that the card is near the mxm slot limit. Still though, benchmarks are decent enough for me and I get really nice scores just on stock (which is what I'll be gaming on anyways) I mean almost 13k GPU score is like desktop 5850 standard.
-
Yeah, that's really impressive. Let us know in case you come around to measure the power draw, would be really interesting.
You might need some more cooling for some hardcore benches, could help. I don't think the MXM-slot is limiting this card, there are new powerful cards coming and no word about a new MXM revision so far. -
Yeah but my max temps never go above 80 apart from the memIO. Really strange. Wanna get my hands on a Kill-O-Watt and see if it is the power draw. Taking a break from all this for a bit, last exam on Wednesday then it's home free. This card is definitely a keeper
-
OK. About the same with the temps here. You won't need to overclock it anyway, only to get some nice scores
-
Yeah I ain't a bencher like "the other two" but I like chasing numbers. Out of curiosity I just ran a WEI assessment and got:
7.6
7.6
7.3
7.3
7.7
Maybe I should take this to the Apple forums on this site and just give them a little wave
-
Hmm, WEI is nice, but not accurate of course. Atm I have
7.3
7.5
7.6
7.6
7.5
Stock clocks of course, somehow my CPU rating got down, but the GPU rating is nice, both 7.6 hahahaha
-
Mine are
7.3
7.5
7.7
7.7
7.8
Widezu69 how did you get your wei cpu that high? The only time I could get a 7.6 is running all core at 27 and TDP/TCD at 96/86. Running the cpu that high will not support the 6970m. Maybe that why your gpu score is 7.3. -
here is mine, first time i've run wei on this system.

Shows how bloody reliable WEI is, just ran again same settings and got:
7.5
7.5
7.5
7.5
7.7
Oh well I'm not gonna take it that seriously. Truth of the matter is that I just got a nice GPU and I should put it to good use. BF3 can't come sooner
-
Glad to see that the card arrived (this time) and is working well.
I'm not sure if it's the card itself or if it's the power requirements to power the extra 160 shaders from a regular 6970M. On the M17x, the max I hit with this card (without the system abruptly shutting down on me) was 820/1075. I would think that the M15x would have a higher headroom seeing that it can only run one card. Also, maybe a higher PSU and better thermal padding would help as well (the last method helped reduce temps on the card to about 85 degrees C when overclocked). -
My temps are fine with no more than 79 on the die and only the memIO goes over 80C with new premium 12W/mk pads. The M15x does only need to power one card but seeing as you were powering a single card in a machine that can power 2 means that the card was probably getting more from your system anyway.
-
So, another vantage run. This is probably my last benchmark for a while, I don't think I can push it much further. Additional cooling during this run and the ones yesterday helped to bring the clocks higher than usual (about +20Mhz core), but higher than 850Mhz will still crash the driver.
I'm pretty happy with the scores. Maybe I'll be able to get a little more with further driver updates... but for now that's it I guess.
My highest 3dMark11 is still the one I posted yesterday. But I've also done a quick 1024M wprime 1.55... I actually wanted to push it with setFSB, but I only got instant BSODs as soon as the test started, so that's simply with the 920xm at 26x and 8 threads.
-
wow looking great. thinking about doing a little benching to day too, but not sure yet.
-
Pushed my system a tiniest bit and raised the GPU score. I think it is a power brick, if I leave it off for a while and do the benchmark after the computer has been of for a while, there is more likelihood of me completing the run. If only I snagged a really cheap PA-9E earlier. Gone now

Really impressive, such numbers at those clocks!!
I still really doubt it's a ppower issue. Like I said, there's no combined load at vantage and I think it simply can't be that your card draws so much more power than a regular 6970m.... but to be sure you'll have to measure it of course. -
I just don't understand why my system shuts down like this
On occasions, when I'm doing a benchmark at the same speeds it would shut down. Maybe it's the driver, are there any notoriously stable ones out there that I could try?
-
Yeah, while pushing the system I got a lot of crashes myself. What I experienced is that 3dMark11 usually only crashes the driver for and the system can recover it again while Vantage will crash the driver as well but the system wont recover it (frozen screen) or even simply shutdown the system immediately...
Edit: This behaviour is generally the same with all drivers. Keep in mind that your pushing the system to the limit... you have to expect crashes now and then, you'll get used to it
11.5 have been excellent for me so far. -
Hey svl7, does your 6970m (on stock) throttle when your CPU is overclocked? I know that it probably would when the GPU is OC'd but I'm after when it is on 680/900.
Thanks -
I never experienced any throttling issues, otherwise I would have posted it in the 6970m thread.
I've only made some logfiles when I installed the card and the GPU was always on full 3d clocks during load... Haven't made any logs while benching but I didn't experience any throttling issues at all.
Also when gaming with a CPU overclock I never had issues so far, though I didn't test it on all games. The 3dM11 combined test doesn't show any sign of throttling as well, even with hardcore OCs on both GPU and CPU. -
Damn then I guess my card really does suck too much power for the M15x. Even on stock clocks with the CPU OC'd a bit, I get lots of throttling. GPUz graphs are all over the place when running Bulletstorm amongst other games.
-
So slowly pushing it upwards. Did a repaste, last time the paste didn't spread far enough to the edges. Got a much better score today although the CPU was a bit lower.
Attached Files:
-
-
Now you got me... 90MHz lower core speed and higher score, the additional 160 shaders seem to help...
What about 3dM11? -
I'm not sure about 3dmark11 seeing as it has a combined test and I'll probably run into massive throttling.
Edit: new benchmark with new pads and a repaste (again).Attached Files:

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Finally broke P3200 in 3dMark11 with this latest set of drivers. Not much compared with the 6970m crowd, but a barrier I have struggled to overcome with the 5850M.
3dMark11: P3205 (5850 @ 925/1150 with 920xm)

Wow nice rev. Congrats on meeting your goal bro. Seems to be a good day for us.
