Hey, wanted to toss one in just in case. P3064 in 3dMark11.

 

Nice score! I see you posted some runs with the 820QM a while ago, great improvement!

 

Welcome back, Lace. This outfit could benefit from a little grace and beauty. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't something more left in that M15x. Is that new 920x a loaner or a permanent addition?

Thanks for the warm welcome, you all are very gracious. Rev, technically my new 920x is a loaner, but I hope to make it permanent. Still, I am just learning about the 920x and am reluctant to overdo it at this point. It sure is fun playing around with multipliers. I'm going to try a few runs in Vantage and see if I can come anywhere near you gurus. Thanks for those new drivers, but they include some settings in CCC that I don't really understand so I'm just trying one thing and then another based on comments in these forums or on the net. Svl7, I was pretty happy with my 820, but this souped up 920x is a whole new deal. Inap, I'm not sure that someone with a banned avatar that said "Blow Me" is a reliable source of grace, but I'll count on you for beauty.

Loving these 8.86.0 (11.6 pre-beta) drivers. Looking at a 400 point increase in 3dMark06 over previous high (with 11.4's) and believe there's more left. Plus, haven't gone to extra cooling yet.

3dMark06 -- 17,482 (5850m/920xm)

just kidding, looking good bro. i really wanna see an 18k run, seems possible.

 

May not be able to catch you, but should get close. Inap, there's no telling what you could have done with Old Yeller and these newer drivers (not just these, but also the various 11.5's). 18K would have been a piece of cake for you.

 

yeah these newer drivers are incredible. guess i will never know what i coulda done.

so rev are you planning on upgrading to a new setup?

 

Yes, but I'm not in any hurry. Probably going to try the M18x, once the anticipated June upgrades, if any, are announced and the early bugs are worked out. The things are performance beasts, but maybe overkill for me, and the limited o/c choices take some of the excitement out of it. Wish the R3 would get a 2920xm option with at least M18x BIOS o/c choices, but am not optimistic. I may just get a 6970m for this M15x and wait for something exciting enough to justify the price. For that matter, the 5850m is doing pretty well. You staying with the R3 or moving on up?

 

i'm pretty happy with the r3 for general usage and gaming. but as a bencher i'm alittle disapointed with the lack of oc options. still kinda tempted on buying an M18x but i don't really see a need for sli/cf since i hardly even game anymore. gonna be testing out 3d on the r3 in the up coming days, i let you guys posted on my findings.

 

I'll be interested in your thoughts about 3D on the R3.

 

Benching update. First (and only) run tonight on 3dMark06 resulted in 17,638 score, which if I am not mistaken ties Inap for the top score in that category.

Awesome score yourself. When that score popped up right out of the gate, a tie seemed like the perfect outcome. So I'm going to just leave that '06 benchmark alone unless someone else comes along and takes us both out. If that happens, I might still have a little left in reserve.

@svl, yeah i have an external 3d monitor and also a internal r3 screen too.
put everything in last nite, the dell driver gave me a crap load of bsod's. at least 5-6 before finally going to desktop, trying a new driver now.

 

dang just tried to bench a 460m, it looks so slow and choppy compared to the 6970 or even the 5850. i just gave up and cancelled it, hahahah

3d is really not for me, looks cool but gaves me headaches.

 

Ok. Yeah, I decided not to go 3d until it gets glasses-free.

So... it was a while since my last 5850m benchmarks, and with all the new drivers that got released in the meantime I just had to give it a try.

No idea how you managed your best score Rev, I didn't even get past P3200... not even with higher clocks. Tried it a couple of times... You're score is really amazing!

Hahaha, sorry Inap, I just had to give it a try I'm lucky you don't have your old M15x around... A machine with a 940xm should be able to push it even more.

man your almost at the 18k mark for 06 svl. you can do it man. i really wanted to break those marks so bad, but guess it wasn't meant to be.

 

Trust me, I really tried it a couple of times... but I think it should be possible... sooooo close

 

Great scores, svl7! Wiped out all my top marks. That DICE is powerful medicine. Have to try that one of these days.

I don't know either. Might have been one of those days where everything lines up just right. You're destroying me in the other two. Killer runs. Cannot match your GPU clocks; I suspect it's the temperature effect, but regardless it's very impressive.

 

it was hacks, no wonder you guys are beating me.

 

Gotta have hacks if you're going to face the Wizard Inap. Everybody knows that.

 

Yeah, DICE hack, helps, especially since I don't have an AC... cooler temps=less resistance = less power draw, also cooling the PSU helps a little bit I guess.

6970m is back in my M15x, didn't have much time for further runs, but I managed some improvement in vantage and a first 3dMark06 run (06 crashed a lot... hmmm). No luck with 3dM11, only lower scores... I may have to investigate a bit there...
Was able to clock a bit higher without crashing, probably because of the new driver.

Anyway, here the scores:







I hope I can one day hit 16k on vantage with this system

 

Well, here's something to at least keep you company for awhile up at these unfamiliar levels.

3dMark Vantage -- P12,240 (5850m/920xm)
Vantage GPU -- 10,755 (5850m)



Congratulations on your newest runs. I have no doubts whatsoever that you will soon break 16K in Vantage with the 6970m setup.

Haven't tried any more 3dMark06 runs, but there is no way I can get up to the 18K level you've staked out.

 

Wow, excellent!!! Look at the GPU score... now if you're lucky and get the CPU up as well during such a run, you'll easily have hundred points more

In case I don't sell my 5850m I'll do some more runs in a couple of weeks... it's pretty time consuming after all. Until then you'll have beaten all my scores I guess, haha, was nice to be on the top for a short while.
