nice scores for the 7970m, does the m15x allow higher clocks?

    Oh, forgot GPU-Z, well, it's written in the 3dM11 window. GTX 660m, clocked @ 1330MHz :p :D

And why the hell does the pic appear as link? Everything's broken here....

WOW!!!!! That's just awesome svl7, so how is that working out? Any modded vbios needed, does it have any p-state limitation like the 580, 470 had.

It doesn't completely clock up with the stock vbios, so I had to do some tweaks to get it work at such clocks. Still investigating. Great card so far :D

Wow, I gotta check TI now. 1000 core and a impressive score -- very nice with the M15x! Looking forward to your progress, wondering if there may be less severe throttling with the 680m (LOL!?) compared to the 7970m with the power constraints of our M15's

Time to sell the 7970m and get a 680m ..

Is it snowing outside or something? Your temps are pretty low for what clocks you have set for both the cpu and gpu.

I'll have to try playing with 1.1v on my 7970m and see how high I can get it. :D

I was only able to get 1Ghz =/ I can't seem to find a good cpu overclock and it ends up giving me a horrible 3dmark score lol

Did a warm up firestrike run with 980M at stock 1200/1250mhz and 920xm at 26x all cores (2x multi lower than cpu's max speed as I am troubleshooting)....

Very impressive Graphics score but your physics score is a little low for x26 on four cores. Think mine was closer to 8400 @ x26 on four cores. Were you seeing any clock modulation throttling?

Not entirely sure as I hadn't checked that box nor could watch throttlestop during the test. I am going to apply clu to the cpu tomorrow and hopefully by the end of the week I will have the cooler to do some proper tests. Can you check your old score to make sure you are around 8400?

Repasted with liquid ultra and checked the chipset clock modulation option in throttlestop: otherwise same settings
    [IMG]
You were right about that physics score. CPU is chipset throttling for whatever reason. When I run Prime 95 the chipset modulation usually kicks in at 50% without the box checked

I guess my cpu isnt running perfectly anymore. Both hot and a bit unstable even clu has little effect under heavy load at 26x with prime 95 fairly quickly reaching towards 100C! At least iam now able to force some decent performance out of it without crashing the system (prolonging gaming to be seen). When it dies hopefully can get a good deal on a 940xm :D

Then again before I was getting all sorts of nonsense with flashing screens and agressive downclocking etc even with the 680M. Quite an improvement. 26x is still respectable :) not quite the freakish speed of 28x but still..maybe I can tune it back up again

Which box exactly should be checked on M15x? Clock Modulation 100% or Chipset Clock Modulation 100%?
And what about box - Set Multiplier? Keeping it checked, but seems to be no difference in performance with box checked and unchecked.
Also i'm getting C0% drops sometimes at 100% load. Is it normal?

Does M15x have one universal heatsink for all cards? Just different x-bracket for nvidia/amd?

The only way to find out is to run prime 95 or at least Throttlestop test 1024m and when it throttles try the boxes.

For me it is clear I have chipset clock modulation throttling.

Damn it @King of Interns you put my benchmark to shame. I forgot to include throttlestop/cpuz etc in the screenshot but this was at 1ghz core, 1100mhz mem and x26 four cores 110/100.

Imagine if the 680M could hit 1200mhz and have comparable bandwidth? Difference in score not so huge methinks...

680M probably (deliberately) can't supply enough voltage to hit 1.2Ghz with the stock vrms and other circuitry. Would probably need to hard mod (volt) mod it

I guess the 980M is a little more efficient! Come on cooling pad! Should be arriving today. Need that bad boy to actually play any games!

What gpu would you recommend putting in the M15x without cooling mod/heatsink mod?

It needs to be below 100w tdp? So something like the 970M is out of the question? I was thinking about that after pascal releases so that the price drops.

MXM version of 970M only draws around 80-85W. 680M at stock voltage can run with stock cooling if you don't overclock it.
Other than that something like the M6000 only draws around 40-50W I think. Quite a few members on here have this card.

Yep, 970M looks reasonable as a card to upgrade M15x. In terms of Perfomance/Heat it might be the best card to pair with stock cooling of M15x and might allow good OC capabilities.

KOI, r u able to run games on 980M with stock cooling?

Interested if u can run games stock cooling with the 980m. Would be a nice yet pricy upgrade.

Currently happy with the m6000 got it to 980 /1100 stable, not sure on the wattage it pulls but i never exceed 70 degrees.

And it was a cheap as chips upgrade that was plug and play for me, and it will let me play most games out, if not on high setting. But im content with that.

Plus its a balancing act. I wold like to do some cooling mods on my pc as wel. Not so much upgrades but new case and better cooling for what i have would be nice.

but 970M with unlocked bios from prema? 100w+?

    NBC description

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-970M.126694.0.html
Excess component heat is dumped onto the gpu core since heatsink is only 2 pipe, maybe?

Tom estimates 95w~ power draw: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-geforce-maxwell-mobile-gtx-970m-gtx-980m,27833.html

Not sure which should I trust. Don't want to risk buying a card with tdp I can't handle.

970M can easily be handled by the M15x

    980M is another matter entirely.

Anyone up for some CPU benching? Use Cinebech r15 and we're interested in the multi cpu score.
At stock my 940XM manages: 374
    @3.4Ghz it manages: 523.

    An i7 6820HK at stock manages: 704.
My friend has a i7 5820K and he manages: 1105!

Even at 4ghz we will struggle to break 600 the chip is old :) doesn't stop the machine thrashing modern games with a 980M though!
