my favorite game of all times is on sale on steam. TF2 only $10, frag me if you can , hehehheh
-
INAP...if you do not have it hold of till steam christmas sales i got mine i think like 1.5 years ago on some sale for $10 bucks for orange box. I have seen TF2 by it self go for $2.50-$5. Those are all numbers but the game is still worth $10 they ask for it and a steal at any other price. What ever happened to your old avatar fire that one up for ol time sakes. GUNNER HEAVY.
-
yeah i bought a whole bunch of tf2 copies when they were $2.50 but gave them all out. but tf2 for $10 is still a great price, still one of the best online fps imho.
sandvich man will be back, hehehe -
Question guys, if I want to do a factory reset in the future, how do I go about it?
Never created a recovery disk.... -
You can use the dell data safe app, if you haven't formatted before.
-
Yikes. I uninstalled the dell data safe as soon as I got my laptop. Are there any other ways?
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Use Acronis Disk Director and set your recovery HD to " Set Active " , then when it boots, it will boot the recovery hd and you can restore back to OEM. -

Hey...
Inap, Jstar, Harryfish, soccerthiery, Rengsey, Revelator... && everyone!!!! Long time no see!! Sorry guys was really busy... Feels good to be back...
and yes tf2 is awesome..
@battousai10k ur better having a fresh install...
Hope I didn't miss anyone... -
Hey bro! Good to see you back
quick question.... you hooked up a 3rd antenna to the 5300? where did you get a 3rd antenna? been thinking of doing that myself
Oh and nice OCZ Vertex II... That ssd is a friggin rocket. -
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
The third antenna came with the M15x (if u configured M15x with Intel 5300 when u bought it).... If u didn't u can still get an antenna from ebay and hook it up urself on ur m15x.. u will have to open up ur LCD lid in order to hook up the antenna...
OCZ vertex 2 is freakin fast... read speeds are similar to Intel X-25m but write speeds are 4-5 times faster than Intel...
Here are some benchmarks on my OCZ vertex 2
CrystalDiskMark

efffin awesomme!!!!
Aw ok yea i bought mine with the 5300 so it already got 3 antennas? i wa sunder the impression it had two. Thanks for clearing that up bro! -
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
Anytime Bro!!!
So anything interesting that I have missed in the last couple of months..... -
hey guys i just recieved my m15x....i7-740 6gb ram 500gb hd ati 5850.im somewhat of a comp. noob i wanted to know what tweaks i should do to get the most out of my system that are not done already at the factory..(not overclocking) becouse i plan on gaming for long periods of time and i fear with long use it will overheat....any help will be appreciated.
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
Everything is already tweaked up for ya... its M15x.. Check the Bios if it is not A08 just download A08 and flash it... A fresh windows install is always a good idea...

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Been looking at the 180GB Vertex 2 myself, though they seem to be in short supply at the moment. Same price as the 160GB X25-M. Been torn between the speed of the Vertex 2 vs the proven reliability of the G2, but that kind of speed is seductive. -
im a noob man,sorry...how do i check that?? and if its not what do you mean by flashing it?? also do you think overclocking would be a bad idea since i plan on gaming for long periods?once again i apologize for my ignorance..im trying to learn
-
welcome back wiz, dam those ocz speeds are awesome, i'm drooling atm, heheheh
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
Ain't the 180gb vertex 2 3.5"... 160gb.. with OCZ vertex 2 120gb is a lot cheaper GB/$ as compared to intel and faster as well..
and yes Intel has a proven reliability record but OCZ vertex 2 are out for quite a while now and there haven't been many reliability issues up until now on vertex 2 ssd drives and due to the sandforce controllers there are fewer writes on the ssd so it gives sandforce drives longer lifespan.. But if u could wait until feb 2011 then u could get intel G3...
For Now OCZ vertex 2 is ur best bet... FASTER AND CHEAPER....
My WEI score is 7.8 for the SSD -

Vertex 2 should be better but slightly more premium for it -
Yea back in the SSD thread Phil said (and He's Mr SSD) that the diffrence isn't all that great... and definately not noticeable in real-world use...
but yea on paper the vertex 2 is better... and you pay for it
Man i hope within the next 6months or so i can pickup a 200gb+ quality ssd for around $300-350... i'm starting to really hate my ancient dinosaur hdd... can you say...MAJOR BOTTLENECK... i neeeeed speeeeed -
So guys, first of all thanks to all that replied to my previous post on factory default settings. I think if I do, I might as well do a fresh install in the future.
Currently, deciding between the Deathadder or Imperator for my desktop gaming. Made a thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/accessories/522142-razer-deathadder-vs-razer-imperator.html
But feel free to suggest in this thread as well. -
well it depends on what games you'll be playing. i love the deathadder for fps. but currently using a cyborg R.A.T 7
-

hey faiz you do you think of this one.
http://www.memory4less.com/m4l_itemdetail.aspx?rid=fd_10&itemid=1443171510
someone is offering it to me for $400. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
That's a great value, unbelievable really with the coupon. (Faiz's deal) I just need more space. Thanks for the heads up. More study ahead.
-
@REV: What you studying like school stuff or reading up on SSD benchmarks lolz -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Reading more on SSD's. I have been waiting for the G3 to buy, but with the delay into February, I just started looking at alternatives. I may continue to wait, but I need one for this M15x sooner rather than later. This old Seagate Momentus is painful.
-
Thanks faiz, just thought it was a decent deal. Was gonna buy it and sell the Intel. My 160 is getting to cramped. G3's are just taking to long. Have to think hard about it. And yes the drive is new.
-
Hold on
Hey just out of curiosity, why do you have two gaming laptops?
And errr, tell me you prefer the alienware -
Well looks like i have to call dell to get my hd drive replaced as its got a bad sector on it lol. Hopefully they get it to me quick and not a long time

^^^ thats tight. yea im waiting for the g3's 300gb drive. would be perfect for me...and im willing to spend 500$ on it. i hope the 25nm is going to help save on the cost of production so i can afford the damn thing. Anyone know the specs for it though? i know intel is laggign behind the c300, and the vertex 2.... btu will the g3 simply match them? or does intel have some wicked new tricks up its sleeve to take top spot once again.??
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
No specs yet but will def be faster than g2's.. its more likely that the g3's will match c300 or vertex2 speeds unless intel are planning to go with sata 3.....
@inap.. upgraded to 940xm.. nice do u feel any performance gains.. because i was just deciding between 920 and 940 its a $150 price diff... -
What are you gonna buy with the money you got from your M15x JS? A M17x? :O
Or a crazy desktop + M11x -
M17x + M11x
.. I'm going BIG. But don't worry... theres no way im leaving this thread

I would like to upgrade my dvd drive to bluray, someone knows how much costs the upgrade?
And another doubt, someone knows if there is a shop in germany, that sells core i7 cpu's or mxm gpu's compatible with the M15x? I will stay almost 7 weeks and i would like to buy an upgrade for my M15x (here in Mexico are almost impossible to find, the other option is Dell but they are expensive except the HD5850 which almost costs the same as in the US and im considering to buy when i return)
P.S: i forget to mention, you think that the 400M series will be compatible with this model? Thanks -
In case anyone's wondering, I was googling and managed to find a link to where you can download Alienrespawn/Dell Datasafe local backup. It's an official dell website (I think), and I installed it fine.
http://dslbdownload.ddsupdate1.com/DSLDownload-en.html -
regarding the Blu-ray drive, you can get one for less than 100$ used. Thought its pretty hard to install (from what I heard..).
We can't be sure if the 400m series will or will not be compatible with the M15x, but for now, the 5850 is powerful enough! -

hey. guyss... thinking of adding a 2nd HDD... can't decide between 500gb 7.2k and 750gb 5.4k... What do u guys say????
and also between 920xm vs 940xm ...
@inap where did ya get ur 940xm from... -
i say get the faster one.
i got my system replaced, so dell gave me with 940xm and 5850. so it has warranty and all the good stuff. -
INAP got his upgrade when he had to get his system replaced under warranty i believe he bought the system with 920xm stock and got it bumped up under warranty.
I would do the 920xm from shirley and send him $$$ direct and save some fees and hopefully snatch it for less than $380.
For hd i went with 500gb 7.2k rpm since i figured 500gb is plenty of space and i wanted a fast HD for loading up games and transferring large files. If i went with 5400rpm i would just step up to a 1tb 2.5" 5400rpm and get he 12.7mm height caddy.
I picked up the ebay 12.7mm caddy and put my 500gb 7.2k rpm in there and plan to swap it to a 1tb once i feel the need.
