    Pretty much the same...

    i7 720xm
    8gb ddr3 1333mhz
    1200p RGB LED
    5870m
    1TB HDD
    Intel Ultimate N 6300

Thats pretty much it. Only upgrades they slapped in were the extra hdd and 8gb of ram instead of 6. Oh and the 6300 vs 5300... big woop.

    So my first impressions:

I really like the aluminum casing on the M17x... its a matte finish and attracts less finger prints...Underneath feels more solid as well (less plastic). RGB LED screen is phenomenal ... colors appear to jump out of the screen... but besides that everything feels the same...except its.. Bigger.

And the size isn't THATT much bigger... but its definately bigger. Makes my M15x look small, and i never thought that was possible lol.

I still don't know what to do... but i am leaning towards the M17x... only thing is that i dont think i will be taking this thing out of my house as often as i did with my M15x. Geeze man i think i'm just going to flip a coin hahaha... since each laptop has its pros n cons...

Personally, I'd take the M17x because of the matte surface, the 2xHDD bays, and the RGBLED.

On a purely objective basis, I'd have to agree with Miahsoul and go with the M17x for its expansion options, but for me the M15x just hits a sweet spot of size and capability. If you plan to build out the M17x with CFX (or maybe SLI soon) and dual drives, then the choice is clear, but if you are going to stay at single card, then the M17x really becomes just an over-sized M15x. I have come to prefer the simplicity and reliability of single card systems, so the M15x rules for me (for now). I do miss dual drives however.

Tough choice, the decision maker for me would be based on what you do with it. If you move your lappy around a lot I'd say m15x, if not either one. If you do programming or graphic design m17x, if that extra pixel size and clarity don't matter that much either one. If you use a 10 key alot m17x, if not either one. If you need tons of storage space m17x, the list goes on. All comes down to do you need a powerhouse animal of a laptop or is great power and more portability more important. Tough choice!

yea it looks like i'm just going to keep this badboy. I loved the "sweetspot" size of my M15x... but man this laptop is perfect so far. And guess what?? I can crank the CRAP out of the volume on the headphones and theres no sound tearing (the actual reason for them offering me a M17x).

That being said.... Anyone need a Brand New 9 Cell battery?? If i keep this badboy i will be selling my extra 9 cell. I even got a belkin napsack for it. Well i guess i better put those in the marketplace...But if anyone from here is interested, let me know!

Yea the screen is mesmerizing. The REDS are just... i can't stop looking at them... LOL

And 2xhdd is a HUGE plus for me, as i can finally pickup a low-capacity ssd to boot off of, and pickup a 1tb hdd and I'm set! The dual 5870s... i think im going to go for it soon. I do program, and i game from time to time. Only buzzkill for me is that i used to take my laptop to school about 2-3 times a week. But i guess i'll just pickup a bigger bag and haul it around anyways. lol...

I plan to max out this laptop in the next 6 months, and then NOT SPEND ANY MORE MONEY ON ANY COMPUTER COMPONENTS FOR A LONGGG TIME!! lol.

Jstar, good luck w/ your brand spankin' new M17x. :D

Anyways, kinda off topic, but is a non-hybrid or SSD 500GB HDD decent? I'm kinda tight on cash and I want to get Civ 5 and Black ops while also trying to fit in a new hard drive.

lol true. Congrats on the M17x, how do you like it so far?

haha yeah I had planned on waiting but these 20% outlet coupons were just too tempting!

Well I'm not surprised at all that he had to RMA it. Asus always has been and will be low end junk.

It's not low end junk, it's priced accordingly. :p

Though my experience with ASUS small laptops has been nothing but stellar.

But I always feel they are a bit out of touch on asthetics, mostly whoever designs the exterior for their laptops.

Other then that ive just been busy lately and nothing new to report but im always watching you guys (trying to break your machines) ;)..

Yeah i do change laptops to often hence no sig anymore as ill just keep some people guessing ... Keeping it simple.

I sold the G73 and didnt lose anything more then the initial shipping costs so it all worked out very nice..

@Revelator Everything is good on the M15x.. They had to replace a couple pieces of the machine since it was from the outlet but now its like new and humming along nicely.

I have my eyes fixed on that X7200 with the 2x460s though i wont lie :D.. For $2200 that is a very good deal on a nicely loaded machine and after seeing how well a single 460 will game and also the way that SLI scales, 2 of those cards should be pretty amazing ...

Tempting. I was hoping for the 470's in SLI (or even single card for some uses, like the M15x or my old 8760), but the price is hard to swallow.

The 470s are almost as much of a rip off as the 480s are ..

They are asking $450 more then a 5870 which means the cards are going to be probably $700 ish give or take and compared to the 460s.. The prices for the whole Nvidia line is screwed up from a price perspective except the 460s..

The 460s Overclock very well and run cool.. You can have stock 480m performance or more at a fraction of the cost..

Of course for the Overclocking Gurus this does not mean much but from a gaming point of view it makes the most sense..

The X7200 is still lacking some basic things though which is sad and inexcusable in this day and age but as a whole its one heck of a machine..

Thats Nvidia for you... WAYY overpriced... just wait till ATI wipes teh floor with their upcomign GPU (6870? perhaps?) which will probably cost half the price of the 480m, while matchign or surpassing its performance.
