So you didn't send your old unit back? They only transfer your warranty when they receive your old one. That's for sure. Also, if you don't return your defective machine, then you're risking your warranty. They will find out when they need to process replacement for your system. Nothing like getting your acct locked up by DFS.

Ive been using the Alienware Orion backpack everyday for the past year, its great!
Very comfortable and there's plenty of room for your M15x and your acessories!

I use the Samsonite Wander (linky)

(There seem to be a lot of kinds of ''Wander's'' but the one I linked should be the one I use, but then in black.)

It's very comfortable with wide patched belts and is big enough to carry everything I need for college in it (obviously including the laptop with mouse and power brick). It's also a bit cheaper than the Alienware backpack.

Edit: I just read you we're more looking for the messenger style type of bag, sorry! I hope this helps anyway.

I did send it. That was my point. I sent it so they should have updated my warranty information along with the parts.

I just called them and they updated the warranty on the System information page. However, it still shows the downgraded parts. According to the technician, there is a "side note" section that they have stating that the CPU and various parts were changed.

I hope this is all settled and doesn't come to haunt me again -_-

    Oh well.

if you have the tech come to install it then it should be linked to your system, because you are buying it for your M15x, just tell them to update your systems specs.

You have to contact them to transfer your warranty if they didn't do it automatically. Make sure you mention about the upgraded gpu when you request for a replacement so they know.

Yea they are definately LOST!!! ^^^^

Don't count on them EVER automatically doing things for you. You always gotta call to get things done.

    On a side note................

Anyone interested in a brand new 9cell battery for their M15x??? I have to get rid of mine as i have no use for it, now that i got a M17x. I got it as a replacement battery about a month ago from Dell, and i think it only went through like one full cycle since. HWinfo32 shows 0.0% wear on the battery, so shes brand new. PM me if you're interested (it's also in the marketplace)

haha yea coming in next week :D
    funny story actually...

a rep a while back told me that he can't send the replacement already with the 240w psu and 2nd 5870m, so upon receiving the replacement i'd have to call back, and ask for the deal he had saved on file for me, which was 375$ + tax for the 2nd 5870 with the 240w psu included, still a pretty good deal. THEN, when i did in fact call back, he told me "oh well the 5870m isn't available as an upgrade in Canada, only in the US". Furious, i contacted my level 3 resolutions expert, and told him i have been lied to, and promised things that weren't true, with a whole e-mail record to back it up. I sent him the whole convo. He tells me there is nothing he can do, but will schedule a meeting with upper-management to see if they can come up with a solution for me.

Calls me today, and tells me they cannot re-send me a replacement with dual 5870s already in it (a solution i suggested) but he said he CAN send me the parts marked as replacements parts with no obligation to send the old parts back (kind of a sneaky work-around), but i will be getting charged for it. The total? 224.46$!!!!! I asked him if this is cost price or something for how cheap, he said just about lol.

So basically, in the end, i ended up with a 2nd 5870m, Heatsink, Fan assembly, CF cable and an additional 240W psu, for 224.46$ shipped to my door. Pretty crazy if you ask me!

    M11x R2-i5520um-4gb DDR3-GT335m-250gb SATA II

    M15x-i7 720qm-4gb DDR3-1080p-500gb SATA II-NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M

I just got done putting a Samsung SSD in the M11x

I had an old XPS that I had gotten a 3 year warranty plan on, it completely fried, sparks and all and it was replaced with the M15x, I don't care what anyone says about Dell support, if you put in the time and be polite but firm they are amazing

I have yet to mess with the M15x but I have the M11x overclocked and running GREAT after learning some tricks in another thread.
Not sure if I really need to do anything to my M15x, any suggestions or experiences?

All about the outlet site, thats where i nabbed mine.

And my M15x was free in a roundabout way so i was ok dropping the money for the M11x.
I normally use my Adamo for work and travel but the performance on it is nowhere near it's pricetag and the wireless was abysmal.
The M11x fixes that issue nicely, and it is actually possible to use it on your lap on the couch, not that i can't with the M15x, but it's a bit more comfortable.

While it is not the same quality as it's bigger cousins, it is still quality IMO, and for the price you can get one now in the outlet store it is well worth it

Hmm ok so I ordered my alienware 15x not too long ago and received it at the 1st of November. (with the Ati 5850).
The Nvidea GTX 460 wasnt out back then.
However the same build + Nivdea GTX 460 is now for sale and cheaper then how i bought it.
Would it be worth calling Dell asking if they can trade the Ati 5850 for the GTX 460 :S Or is thhat hopeless?

Yes of course! Dell has a 21 day no-questions ask return policy, so I'm sure you could call them up and ask for a replacement and I'm sure they'll be happy to replace it for an extra cost. If they deny you service, just return the laptop and reorder!

Keep in mind the 5850m will perform better in games, but the 460m has physx n CUDA cores... Just decide which you need more :)

5850m still outperformed 460m for gaming?

yea dude... trust me... my friend with the new asus with the 460 (same specs, 720/8gb ram etcc) is pissed... we played MoH, CoDMW2, BFBC2, SCII alll side by side, and i was averaging a solid 5-8 fps more.

But if people don't want to believe me, go ahead n get the 460 :D.

don't me wrong it is a good card, cuz for slightly less gaming performance you get phsyx n cuda cores.... but if you dont care for those... and only like gaming... then theres no point..

To be very frank, I lean more towards nvidia..
Prolly its because I've never use any ATI cards before, this 5850m is actually my first ATI card and it blows my mind like nothing, especially being able to run StarCraft2 with Ultra setting.

I'd not hesitate to switch to a 470m though hehe.

I used to be a big Nvidia fan. To be quite honest though, ATI delivers more bang for your buck.

The top end ATI may lose to a Top end Nvidia by a little bit...

But that little bit that the Nvidia provides will cost you a LOT more than it's worth.

Hell, the 5850 so far is flat out beating the 460m because of its headway with overclocking and the 460m still costs a lot more.

I bought my 5850 for $279 with tax it's about $300. 460m is about $350 and that is without tax i think...

I wouldn't use the price argument. I bought my MR5870 for ~$380 after tax (although this might be because I bought it a while ago). You just got a really good deal on that MR5850.

In general I prefer Nvidia, but when I bought the MR5870 Nvidia didn't have anything close available.

Now in terms of the 5870, even if it's the same card as the 5850, from a tier stand point it's still probably priced lower than it's competitor which would be the 470/480 right?

It's definitely cheaper than a 470M/480M, but the 460M is close enough in performance to be comparable, and with the prices of the 470m/480M I tend to disregard them completely.

So yes, ATi's best is much cheaper than Nvidia's best, but the lower priced 460M is still very competitive with the top ATis. Price to performance ratios are a better way to look at it as opposed to the tiers.
