Power drain. It happened to me and PD fixed it up.

Hmm... I'm curious if the low power clocks are too low or if my drivers are wonky...

I tend driver crashes when watching youtube vids of all things lol. The screen will turn black for a sec and the youtube vid will turn green. =/

Off to try different drivers i guess. Anyone else get this with the 10.10?

 

whats your vbios version? the newer vbios should of fix this.

 

I have the newest one.

Worst case scenario i'll reflash but the first thing i did when i got the card was update the vbios.

 

hmmm strange, i nevered had this problem so i can't say. but have you tried turning off hardware acceleration in the youtube menu and also have the latest flash. you prolly know all this already but just in case.

 

I'll check the HW acceleration. I didn't even know that was an option through youtube

Somebody knows if i ask for a new mobo (the sound crackling problem) there is a possibility to resolve the problem?

Also another thing, do you know if AS5 has conductivity? I recently applied MX-4 to my M15x's CPU, but i have another bottle of AS5 that i want to put in my old Qosmio (i only have a bottle from MX-4, i want to save it for my gpu of my M15x, but right now im a bit indecisive with that if i upgrade), i hear that has conductivity and i dont want some problems (or in the future) with that laptop (it has more than 6 mobo replacements, no warranty), i only use it as a server honestly.

Anybody had problems with AS5 in the past?

 

I've read the same thing. It's conductive. Also, it has a long cure time which i'm not really fond of.

Am I the only one experiencing terrible performance while using the battery? It sucks..

soccer, whats the issue you are having???? the cpu down clocks on battery too, the only way i found to fix this is using throttle stop.

 

Also, the core parking could be causing this too if you haven't disablled it.

When core parking is disabled you'll lose like 30 minutes worth of battery life though lol.

Inap; I'm just find my M15x suuuuper slow when on battery. Oh well no biggy!
I would like to be able to use my computer as an actual laptop But now its more like a desktop..

I found it super slow at first when on the battery, but I've found using throttle stop fixings this issue, no difference between using the adaptor or battery in gaming now.

 

on my 9 cell i get an incredible 30 mins, with everything cranked up, hahah

 

wow cf 5870 sweet bro. could be heading to the M17x way too, just want the rgb screen, unless they make an M15x with rgb.

EDIT: On another note, does anyone else with a 5850 only have it show up as a 5800 on GPUZ and Device manager?

I was under the impression that it actually says 5850.

yeah i still torn between a M15x and M17x, if M15x had an rgb screen then i would stay, really don't care for xf at all.

 

Hmm... I just can't figure out why it doesn't show as a 5850...

I wanted to update my some program with my specs and when it finishes it just shows my graphics card as Some generic ATI graphics.

=/ Oh well, as long the performance is fine i guess.

It's the drivers. The ATI reference drivers will identify as 5800 Series; Dell versions will report as 5850. Due to different setup strings.

Anyone know some contacts at the backend for their gift card system? I extended my warranty on M15x for another 2 years and received a 75$ gift card. It not mailed to me yet but I'd really like to use it today to buy a laptop for my parents. Called alienware customer support and they said they can't help. Trying to see if someone has any tips. I know ppl have shared special contact information in the past.

 

The alienhead seems to stop lighting up for me. Kinda annoyed by it. Anyone know what the problem is?

 

Hey guys been awhile lots of things have happened since Ive been away and just was looking at the support page on dell and find the 460m is now available. Any thoughts as to a comparison to the 5850m?

 

Its not as powerful but should perform better in DX11 tasks (which are scarce at the moment)

 

Is this really true? I thought the general consensus was that it outperforms the 5850 in some tasks but not in others.

Some games play better on one, other games play better on the other.

 

another thing is the 5850 oc's incredibly well. taking it to 5870 level and beyond. so you should be really comparing the 460m to a 5870.

 

Which is a really unfair fight. Tis like racing a Ferrari (460m - quick) against a Koniggsegg (5870 - fast). Now what we need is the Pagani Zonda (470m - fast and similar to a Koniggsegg). Hopefully I can cough up enough money for one.

 

yeah i don't think that i can do the 470m mod now, since my laptop could be sold in a couple of days. sorry guys.

prolly cheaper to wait a few months, since the demand for them is pretty high right now, maybe a dell version would be released by then also. unless you just want the best system right now for bragging rights and thats priceless, heheh

 

Yeah don't think bragging rights is enough reason to spend an insane amount of money. Just as long as I get it in time for Crysis 2 I'll be happy. Don't think Dell are gonna come out with one though; recently their blog stated that the M17x R3 would get 6xxx radeons with no mention of nvidia.

 

Today i made a call to Dell (i had a problem with the speaker lights, right side doesn't works correctly) and i commented about upgrading my GPU.

They dont have the HD5850 currently here in Mexico for sell so i asked for the 460M and they said me that i didn't had a mobo that could support that GPU.

I said to the guy in the phone that they replaced my mobo and i saw it a little different than the older (and it doesn't has anymore problems with headphone jacks), he said me that probably i have the new mobo (this one supports more power for the GPU), but im going to confirm this when the technician arrives and replaces my speakers.

So anybody that has problems with the headphone jacks (crackling/interference) they should call dell because it seems that they had resolved the problem with the new mobos (like mine).

In any case somebody had upgraded to a 460M with the "old" mobo and how is your experience with it?

 

Dude lol what a COINCIDENCE I called Dell Mexico today and asked for an HD5850 and they said they werent avalible... I also asked for the gtx 460 but it was not avalible too .
