Also, how do you know if your running in stealth mode? Aside from serious game lag.

Ok so I got Lojacks with my system for free, it came already on the system wtih an icon that said install lojack. When i tried to install it it keeps giving me "An unexpected error occured during installation; installation is not complete. Please contact computrace lojack for laptops global support. Error#: 2160" I tried talking to dell, got transferred a few times, got annoyed and hungup. I didn't even get an activation or product key or anything from them. How do i go about fixing this??

i'm going to get laugh at for this but:

    turn off
    unplug
    take out battery
press power button for 10-20 secs
put back and see if it works
if not go back in the alienfx and change colors, untill its on again then switch to what ever color you wish to use.

also here is a link for a small app made by wattos, that lets you know when stelth mode is on:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/463382-stealth-mode-indicator.html

should be a download link somewhere in the middle of the first page.

I had to reinstall Win7 as I was hitting a bluescreen on boot for some reason. Now I'm getting the AlienFX error. This isn't going very well so far...

Is the AlienFX problem you are having the same as Soccer? No lights, Command Center not finding the FX controller, and basically a total lack of lighting everywhere?

Ok. Have you tried unplugging, taking the battery out, and holding the power button for 10 seconds? You know, power drain trick.

If so and it still doesn't work I'd uninstall it, run ccleaner to clean your registry, reboot, and reinstall.

If that still doesn't work, then you are in the same boat as Soccer. You'll need a new motherboard. I had this happen to me and I had to get it replaced.

My Alienhead goes out quite a lot, turning the lights off and back on with Fn+F11 brings it back for me tho I sometimes have to turn off/on up to 5 times before it works.

    Thank you for your email.

To help make sure that the Computrace Agent cannot be disabled by criminals,
Absolute Software works with computer manufacturers to pre-install a portion of
the agent in the BIOS. The BIOS-based Computrace Agent has the ability to
survive operating system reinstallations, hard drive reformats, and hard drive
    replacements.

The Computrace BIOS support module is shipped disabled and turned off from the
manufacturer. Once the customer installs the Computrace Agent, pays for the
Absolute Tracking and Recovery service and activates the Computrace BIOS
support module, then the extra level of security and firmware persistence will
    be activated.

LoJack for laptops agent on your computer is not yet activated. In order to
activate the agent, you will need to purchase a subscription on the Absolute
    website.

Please go to Absolute Software - LoJack for Laptops | Track, Locate, and Recover Stolen Computers | Absolute Software Corporation, choose
your product and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the payment.

This is after I emailed them saying I bought it off Dell and it shipped with it already on there, but gave me errors when trying to install. aghhhh

I think it's fairly common, at least I've heard it mentioned a few times. Typically it'll stall when you press a key whether it's asking for input or not. Sorry to say I don't recall hearing of a fix for it.

Alright, was dealing with tech support this morning. The tech support guy was uninstalling Command Center remotely and the system froze, and now not only does AlienFX not work, but I can't get half my programs to open or work at all. This system has been nothing but a nightmare since I ordered it.

sorry to hear that man. i would ask for a replacement right away, instead of fixing a new system. so the problem happened after a reinstall of windows seven? try uninstalling the cc and run ccleaner to clean it out. then do a windows update then restart and install it again.

also what version of cc are you running????

Also how many times does a tech person have to come/ talk to phone support before you can get a replacement system? I just have a friend who is under the complete warranty and has had 2 failed tech people plus phone support and the system still doesnt work. How does he go about getting a new system?

it really depends on the issue, if you have mutiple cases open, probably best to call customer support and ask for replacement.

So looks like i may be the first one of us to get the new ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850. If shipping happens on time I may see it as early as tomorrow if not monday.

Hopefully it benches better than the GTX 260 and makes the hastle worth the upgrade.

they won't replace a system without attempting to repair it a few times. the Magic number seems to be after the 3rd attempt(4th repair) so complain about something else to get that replacement processed. eventually they will offer it to you instead of you asking for it.

im gonna wait and buy the 5870 when i have more funds available a few months from now. considering that the 5870 is better than the 5850 (supposedly gddr3 due to heat issues, the one being shipped for the M15x) im sticking to my 260m im happy with it and im keeping it that way lol.

yeah 260 is already a great card, i don't think dx11 is worth getting if the 5850 is gddr3. but 5870 is sweet, kinda glad they are not putting it in the M15x, so mine can still be special, lol

My daughter called Alienware and they seem to think it is the graphic card. They are sending someone out to her home with a new one. Guess I will be calling also. The diagnostic test should work correctly so if it doesn't something has to be wrong. I checked the manual and it says to call in if there is a problem running it. Seems a little strange to me that we both aren't able to get through this test without the beep and hang at the color question. Never had a problem on any other machine I have owned running this test. As a matter of fact this is the first thing Dell usually asked me to run when I needed to call them a few times with other machines. Thanks for responding to my question Smeggit.

I just got my system replaced. From what I understand, they usually take 3 major component replacement before considering a system exchange. I had my MOBO changed twice and the keyboards 3 times before they agreed for a system exchange.

P.S. If you're lucky... they will not send in a return shipping label and you can keep both laptops... haha... I've got 2 systems with me right now. Any takers?? I can sell one off for half price... :D

Ok, Is anyone else experiencing an issue with Battlefield Bad Company 2 where it won't display at a 60hz resolution. Everything is listing at 59hz.

Or can someone let me know if our LCD Panels even display at higher than 59hz.
