Okay guys, getting my M15x tomorrow. The only thing is that I think I´m gonna return it and do a new order and I can don´t need to pay the restocking fee if I´m ordering a new system right?

The thing that I want to change is the warranty, like add 3 or 4 years advanced so I´m coverd if something happens and maybe the lower screen res and color :p. I can open it and return it right? Just have to do it within 21 days?

yep, the screen res is up to you as i have the 1080p screen. it is nice but in certain games i don't have as smooth as the 900p screen tested games in both resolutions and in 900p windowed i yielded higher fps. so either quality or performance its up to you. but there's is hardly a difference between the two at 15.6

The 900p screen in itself is gorgeous, though. Looking at my screen it's hard to believe that there is an even more beautiful screen for the M15x!

That´s why I was thinking that I can just try and see how I like the 1080 screen and if I want the other one I can save some money :)

Yeah I have no idea if 1080 is gonna be too small for me. But I can return and do what I was thinking?

Off to the gym! Expect some awesome answers when I get back ;)!

It's a shame they don't sell them in stores so you could check stuff like this before you make a purchase.

Ha ha ha! Yeah, basically you can do anything you want within the 21 day period as long as you don't fry your GPU in the process, Razz!

Has anyone with the 5850 tested Split Second? I've tested it on my system, but any adjustment to the GPU clocks produces no extra gains (currently pushed it to 700/1700/1150, which is getting close to unstable, and I haven't pushed the voltage up). With everything on it's highest, I'm getting around 20fps with vsync on & off. I know that I should be asking in the M15x benchmarking thread, but it's not the most lively of places.

The game is locked at 30fps so there's no going above that unfortunately. The performance on the PC version sucks so bad. It has issues on my desktop with a 5970.

But isn´t it smart? Because then I´m safe for like 3-4 years depending what warranty I get. I´m not very good of taking care of laptops or they don´t like me :(. This one is a work computer from my hostfather´s job and I´ve spilled stuff twice on it so they had to fix it, happens all the time but only with laptops, lol. Not on purpose :(... So if I´m spending this kind of money I wanna be on the safe side!

can't tell really since i just did it like 5 mins ago, hahahha. but atl least the finally took care of the single channel glitch in the bios.

i see your waiting for the new 740's its not gonna be a manger inprovement over the existing ones, just a slight change in the frequency. i doubt you will see a big difference in real world use, just better benchmarks.

Yeah I know I´m not gonna be able to tell the difference but since I´m returning it anyway I can wait just for the heck of it. It feels a little better when you know it´s newer , lol :p. And then I´m gonna have the new CPU(740) and GPU(5850).

Edit: And it´s supposed to be cheaper :D

Yea I hear you man :p! But I have until mid June or something because I´m leaving the states July 3rd. So I guess I´m just gonna look att the screen and computer tomorrow and then send it back the next day so the whole process starts pretty quick.

How long was it you have to wait for them to give you back the credit and stuff?

You can add the warranty even after its shipped. The pricing SHOULD be the same. At least I was quoted for exact same prices as configuring a new computer after inquiring about upgrading the warranty.

Slow response in another thread so asking here instead!

With the 5850, should you OC it and does the warranty cover it? Guess it wouldn´t with an HP for example but this is an AW so have no idea :S..?

Okay that´s cool. I´m gonna try and see how the 1080 screen is, I know it´s awesome when playing games and watching movies I guess but I´m mostly doing schoolwork adn surfing you know and i don´t like the text to be too small :). Btw can you change the res to 1600x900?

Wow, today was a good day, New bios i'm noticing and New Nvidia Beta Drivers. (and they're awesome so far). Check out the new bench's for the GTX260M.

Is there a reason why the bios update is an iso file?

wouldn't a DVD work? it would just be a big waste of a DVD for a small BIOS file :p (I'm just building my knowledge on all this stuff atm, tell me if my questions start getting too dumb...)

LOL, it works with dvd or cd! it doesnt matter, you just gotta have bootable method, whether it might be cd, dvd, or flash drive(although that's more complicated than dvd) and make sure you burn (mount the iso) right way. and no, no questions is too dumb! this is the place for us! I am still supernoob, tho there's so many guru in this thread! :)

ok cool, you guys will have to tell me how it is. My laptop came with A05 i believe, but I've already had issues with bad software and had to restore to the factory image :p, so I don't want to go messing with the BIOS cos it's all working fine now (still not got round to installing firewall or antivirus... I know i should but I don't want my games to bluescreen :( )

Damn you guys are greedy! Your system si worth over 2000$ and wasting a .10$ DVD hurts?

yup, but it's worth every cent :). I bet a macbook pro doesn't type 7 when you hit the wireless button now does it? you gotta be cool to do that :p.

speaking of MBPs... My friend and I both getting laptops for uni, I got this alienware and he's getting a 15" i7 macbook pro later in june. He likes comparing the two and he was using my computer yesterday and commented on the laggy touchpad, stupid synaptics. (but we did play Borderlands until 2 am, i made him use the desktop on all low detail and i sat next to him with medium and shadows and things and no lag in combat :p)

hmmm, is there something wrong with one of my fans? the one on the right (under the touch buttons) bangs against something whenever the laptop is moved, or even if i bang my hand on my desk. i can push the intake vent in so that it hits the fan and makes a whirring fan-hitting-plastic noise (i know, i didnt do it on purpose, but it happened so i'm conscious of it now). does this mean the fan isnt sitting right?

I've heard some came with high speed fans that could shake themselves loose. If you call Dell they'll probably replace it with a quieter fan.

Hi guys, I'm going to upgrade to BIOS A06 tonight but was also thinking about getting the latest Nvidia drivers for the GeForce GTX 260M. Is it recommended to just use the Alienware provided driver or go straight to Nvidia for it? I see the latest one on Nvidia site is: Verde Notebook Release 197. Shall I use this one? Cheers :)
