would selecting the real core only for game play damage the cpus?

 

Id highly doubt that. the hyperthreaded cores run on the real cores anyways, like a piggy back. Having all 4 cores running at the same time is not going to damage anything.

 

I was messing around with photoshop just before and decided to have a go at making a cool signature pic. The result is in my sig , any advice is welcome i'm still learning.

Also, while doing that i realised that photoshop was lagging a little bit, even typing there was a delay between button push and letter appearing. I was wondering if this could be solved by Mr. Pras' new fix he found, by stopping core parking? However, I only want to use the fix in one power mode, meaning only using it in the " High Performance " mode, and not in the others. The Optimizing i7 Battery life, ideas? thread deals with a similar but opposite sort of registry deal, is it possible to use this to only change 1 of the power options? Also, is this the sort of thing that would require a reboot each time and really isn't worth it, in other words, will windows be able to enable and disable parking on the go when i swap battery modes?

i read its for 260 gtx not 260m gtx?
will that be ok?

 

go to beta archive downloads and you look for your cards list of drivers its the one listed for it so i highly doubt that it won't work. Or nvidia just made a huge mistake.

 

So it seems they've approved my M17x Exchange.

Now i have to work out the part details.

yes that driver works just download for the 200m series and whatever win version you have. this is for the 64 bit win7

So I went to them on the grounds that my previous system, The 1645 was a 16" laptop with an RGBLED display as well as the fact that it had 8GB of Memory.

The M15x they sent me came with 15.6" WLED and 6GB memory. So I asked them if they would consider correcting the exchange with a 17x because it was proper equivalent exchange system.

They initially told me that it was doubtful because I had already agreed to the M15x, but after explaining briefly why i wanted the RGBLED they apparently approved it and were going to tell me today. (however its going to require some switching of parts because whats in the system isn't necessarily whats on the original configuration (the original system).

So long story short unless my asking them to change things angers them and they decide to deny my exchange. As it stands i'm getting the M17x, i7 720(should be 820), 8GB DDR3 (I want to downgrade it to 6 or 4) 1 5870(downgrade memory and upgrade to CrossfireX). And DVD drive(should be bluray burner)

 

I just re-installed Crysis and played it today first time since I upgraded to the 5870. And wow its a big diff.
With the 260m it was good to play on All 'High' Settings, and for the most part it played well, but occasinally framerate would dip to where it stuttered for a few seconds. The final mission it stuttered quite a bit so I had to lower it on some details.

Today I played Crysis with the 5870. I first tried putting resolution to 1920x1080 with all High settings, played well.
Then I tried 1920x1024 with Very High settings, and it stuttered here and there and the game shut down (I think thats because its a cracked game )
However, I put down the res to 1280 x 1024 (which I assume is default) with 'Very High' settings. And a bit of OC.

And it worked like a breeze! I loaded up different missions and it worked real well. (Although the final mission shooting the real big thing.. was a fail).

So there you have it.. the 5870 bumps it up quite a bit!

something seems odd about the resolutions you posted. 1920x1024 and 1280x1024 those are 4:3 resolutions not 16:9. also shouldn't you be running at 1920x1080 on High with decent performance and even better with the 5870?

You have at least 3-4 weeks to try and beat my score but since your card allows you to hit higher clock speeds than mine does you shouldn't have a problem

 

also i did that I7 deparking trick Mr. pras eluded to a couple of pages ago and man does it give much smoother performance pages load in no time without slowing down i.e. parking and all cpus ar working at the same time as intended via task manager.

just about to install the latest drivers for the GTX 260M from the NVidia site. do people suggest to just install it over the top or to uninstall previous nvidia driver version first?

 

uninstall the previous drivers

reboot run cc cleaner

install new drivers and reboot and your done

 

what shall i look for in cc cleaner?

what harm is there in installing over the current driver from alienware?

 

its so there are no conflicts as with over writing it can cause driver issues.

and in cc cleaner go to registry cleaner it corrects any issues in the registry. It's a very good tool for uninstalling and reinstalling drivers that are not working correctly.

Ha ha ha! Hi everyone. Finished the project, did a rush job and finished that as well and now I received a very large rush job which will keep my hands tied for the next 17 days or so!

The only good thing about it is that this project will earn me my lappie back (twice), so at least it's worth it.

I will try to hop in as often as I can, though, even if it's just so you guys don't forget me!

 

good to hear Harry sucks that you have another huge project after just getting done with one.

 

At least this is an interesting project. The last one was by far the most boring project I've ever worked on!

I love my job, though, so it doesn't really matter, but I was kind of looking forward to start my career as a(n amateur) gamer!

i applied there too but i got into the math faculty at UofW insane standards had to have like 3 reviews of application before i got accepted(basically i didn't care about school in high school). i did make the deans list at college in northern new york not great as it was literally the inner city no offense but it was all kinds of kids going for free and not caring about anything and half the freshman class dropped out by midterms lol.

 

Yah I finally got mine. I got my 15X back on December 8th. I've been calling once a month and I finally had it. Called them up on the third and told them enough is enough. If I don't get this thing by the 8th I'm contacting my state's attorney general and the BBB and claiming fraud. Within 2 hours I had a $50 coupon in my inbox and was told that I might get a gift card as well. Well that gift card came yesterday. So I dropped that $100 on

Yes its a $114 mouse. But its a hell of a mouse as well. Plus I end up spending about $20 out of pocket for it. So *shrugs* Still a crap ton of hassle to get a $50 gift card.

 

yeah the mamba is awesome, using the same mouse. thinking of getting an optx monitor, but just missed the sale, oh well still have time to use it so i'll wait to see if it goes back on sell. man i should of call could of gotten an extra $50 like you, that would of been awesome.
