Its not that.. Alienware's are better. Period. People see pricing.. and don't understand performance and quality versus price.
They're like 'HEY! That has the same specs AND you're getting a little but more for less price. It MUST be better!'
Poor sods![]()
I keep getting offered $2000 for mine. AUD. So $1600 (rough estimate).
I'm sure its worth more no? Its not that old...
Am I asking for too much or something? (AND NOT by NBR status where everyone expects everything at like 750% discount.. but by ebay market standards and stuff)

Then its final year of uni, so really need to buck down and concentrate. Otherwise I'll have an Alienware and nothing else
Then work and uni is quite hectic. Barely at home these days. Like today.. left the house 11am. Came back 2am. (No thats not 3 hrs)
Either way, It's not too long into the warranty period, I thought it would make a smoother transition especially if it was under warranty period.. and hey.. a M15x with a HD 5870 is rare!
EDIT: Lol i JUST realised I had an Intel wi-fi card.. I didn't realise that! -

hi
I have a m15x r2 with a 240m gt. i was wondering if i were to buy a friends 280m gtx will it work well in my m15x? (new power adapter requried?), also what temps should i expect? thanks -
Your M15x is not really a R2 since the Area-51 (crap hinge) m15x was a completely different laptop. Dell's only had one M15x and you've got it so it's technically the R1.
The 280m is confirmed to work with an increase in heat, nothing major but should be monitored as usual. I mean who doesn't right? I stare at my temps more than I do anything else LOL. As long as the 280m is the same form factor, maybe that's the wrong term, it'll fit. -
is there such thing as a master or slave card on the 3.0 mxm slot? Thanks
-
M15x is only single card, yes 280 will work, but 5870 is better and will cost less.
-
+1 for the 5870. What are your temps on the card Inap? Gaming wise not benchmarking. I'm going the 5870 route soon I think. Couldn't resist it any longer. Thanks bro.
-
Man waiting is a pain. Ordered on Thurs May 20, ETA stil at June 7…sigh…I see now why it can be such a pain if the laptop comes defective. You can easily end up wasting a month.
-
Hehe! Patience my friend! You'll see it's worth it!
-
-
Hey Intel G2 And X25 is same? or any difference?
-
Well congratz to you both, your gonna love it!
-
Yay more new people. Just don't say the screen is made of glass ok? I just had to convince a person in another thread that the screen is plastic, not glass while some newcomer said all 3 R2 models have edge to edge screens...oh boy...
-
-
Ya i knew that before. I'm wondering if its necessary to cover the keyboard with a cloth or something? My old toshiba laptop has markings from the keyboard on the screen. Are you guys having similar problems?
-
i get that and have to wipe the screen down with a microfiber cloth to get rid of the skin oil as it transfers from keyboard to screen
-
-
Thanks Inap.+rep
I make it my life's goal never to touch the screen lol. I lift it only from the top groove part?? That way I don't have to wipe it down for days at a time. I never get the keyboard pressing into the screen thing either. When I place the laptop in the backpack I make sure to put the LCD side on my back and use the 9cell to keep space away from the stuff in the front. Since when traveling, the laptop naturally leans towards the front of the pack away from my back and the 9cell catches it and relieves pressure on the LCD.
EDIT: I don't think that made any sense lol... -
-
-
If you are talking about where the edge to edge meets the magnesium LCD cover then I can confirm that it has a slight raise to it yes. The E-to-E is ever so slightly higher than the magnesium cover.

did ya guys see m17x r2 benchmarks crossfire 5870's.... dell modified the bios and it won't let u install ati drivers without bsod's (only dell drivers) and with oc and upping the voltage they are getting something near 14k-15k gpu score... in that case we are better of with single 5870 hittin almost 10k...
-
Hey i bough M15x with 1530 Wifi. can i install Intel 6300 wifi card now? Please someone confirm me this

Came across this.
http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.aol_refer.false.tpl.detail.msn_refer.false.item.E165621.ref.GBA?cm_ven=GOOGLEBASE&cm_cat=Electronics&cm_pla=Computers&cm_ite=E165621
That thing is way over priced.QVC should not even be able to sell these.

Just went to Dell's web site to download all the drivers I will need to do a fresh install on a new SSD I'll be putting in when my M15X gets here.
Strange thing is that there was no driver for the 5850. -
go to ati's site and download the 10.5 drivers
-
hey friends i need some advise, should i buy ATI 5870 now or wait for some time? Maybe something with more power come? because i'm holding money but there is a chances of something better coming right?

To avoid Dell people on the forum I'm gonna ask it here. There's a new thread on AW tear downs in the guides section but what is the point of these tear down videos if in doing so voids your warranty? Is Dell that lenient that they'll let anyone open up and completely tear down the system? I think not. My tech told me I was not allowed to without having my warranty voided. Not starting nothin but what is the point of those videos from Dell??
"The primary purpose of this channel is to provide teardown video's that will assist customers with part upgrades and services."
Quoted from the video's description. Yeah right, like you guys would ever let me, a know nothing consumer, tear my system to the motherboard...please.
Guides are one thing, since not everyone has an easy time reading Dell's "helpful" service manuals, but now videos? That makes it too easy for people to 'void' their warranty.
It's like they're saying "hey guys, we'll make it easier for you to tear the system down, but you are not allowed to touch the stuff or break anything, got it? Or your warranty is VOID!"
Give me a break, Dell why don't you forward these videos to your onsite techs? Don't give the consumer the ability to do something they're not allowed to do.
Anyway, sorry guys, I got a little upset at Dell just now lol.
Zaidbaby,
I don't think there are anymore confirmed GPU's coming for the M15x. The 260m should suit most games on high setting (except Crysis). No need to upgrade now unless you really want the good stuff lol. -
i don't think the M15x can handle anything more than the 5870. the temps are pretty much at the max safety limit anything more would need a huge overhaul of the cooling system and power supply.
the warranty thing is wierd, haven't really heard anything confirming that taking it apart will void warranty or not. my tech was more than happy to let me replace my screen when he came. plus i don't see a void warranty sticker anywhere, and it would be very hard to tell if you actually took the laptop apart or not. so i wouldn't worry to much about it. but i wouldn't be calling them up and telling them about it, hahhahah. -
its like your at college but you never tell your parents that your going to a party and drinking and doing other things....lol
-
I will only play GTA IV and upcoming series most of the time.
Hey friend which forum you're talking about of dell i can't find.
Please give me link.
Thanks -
Wondering if I should cancel my order and replace it with the 9-cell. I've been reading reviews and I'm worried the 6-cell battery won't last the 1.5 hours i need. I'm not crazy about the battery, but I was hoping I could get 1.5 hours of battery with the 6-cell on min brightness, wifi on, stealth mode.
Do you guys think its possible to get 1.5 hours with the 6-cell?
I just don't want to have to go through the hassle of canceling the order and redoing it.... -
Writing from my M15x right now, it´s really awesome! Build quality is really good and the keyboard is so sweet!
Going to call dell tomorrow about the warranty stuff and if I can maybe I´m going to send this back and order a new one this weekend if I can do that. Was looking at the Memorial weekend thing, a pretty good deal! Thought I would make this a try (if I can):
i720qm
6gb 1333mhz
1080 wled
ati 5850
intel 5300
250gb
Advanced warranty 3years
make an offer to the rep for $2000. There are alot of coupons so think it´s possible! What do you guys think.
I´m gonna use 3% DPA, 2% Memorial weekend, $295 Special, $100 coupon, and free shipping ofc! When I say $2000 I mean after taxes and shipping. What do you guys think?
-
i get like 2hours on a 6 cell with a i5 and 240 lol
-
-
@ramusbjork glad to hear you got your monster enjoy!
@battousai10k well i can say from having the 9 cell i get more than 1.5 hours and stealth mode doesn't work while on battery sadly(dell failed there until they actually make it work on battery. Also with the 620m and 260m i get about just above 2.5 hours(battery saver with wifi) so if that's any indication of what it could do it is as the 5850 and 720 roughly have the same TDP as the 620m and 260m. -
-
That certainly helps. I'm guessing it wouldn't be more than an hour less with the 6-cell. Worst case scenario, I'll just deal with it, and bug dell to give me a 9-cell replacement after killing the battery in less than a year
-
you could do that without properly discharging each time and get it down to zero daily and it would destroy the battery as if you get to zero numerous times without a 5% buffer the total time will drop a lot.
EDIT: Also on a serious note where the fudge is Jstar and Theirry
