I downloaded from Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM and it started working. I am in the process of running benchmarks and comparing them to my 10.5 results as well. So far, only difference worth noting is I have not recieved a large cursor since updating. Here's hoping that issue is gone for good. -

Graphics Drivers & Software -
I just did a fresh install. I installed the Intel chip set driver and nothing else.
I just downloaded the new 10.6 drivers and extracted them to the default location. When the Catalyst install manager loaded I hit cancel.
I then went in to the config folder in the extracted location and modified the Installmanager.cfg workaroundinstall=true
I then ran the ATI setup from the extracted location and once again install manager does not show a driver to be installed.
What am I doing wrong? -
I am having trouble with my M15x, can anyone help me install 10.6 step by step.
I am currently using latest Dell's 5850 driver.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks. -
I thought I did download the mobility version but I'll double check. Thanks -
MAN! That's what it was.
I was sure I had the mobility versions but I guess not. Sorry for putting everybody through this. -
-
Downloaded the new 10.6 drivers (make sure its the mobility version) and extract them to the default location. When the Catalyst install manager loads click cancel to end it.
Next go into the config folder in the extracted location and modifiy the Installmanager.cfg file using notepad to open it. Change workaroundinstall=false to true and save the file.
Run the ATI setup from the extracted location to install the 10.6 driver.
Credit for this goes to Inapp he told me how to do it. -

pretty good score man, keep it up!! i'm sure the clocks can easily go further.

Edit: Sorry, didn't see the later posts. Glad you worked it out. -

hey rev, like to say thanks again bro. couldn't of beaten my old score without your help.

Inapp, are you using the stock power supply or have you upgraded? What is the rating for the stock brick? -
still stock, rating @ 150 but not really sure how much it is really outputting. didn;t want to buy a power brick yet since no one an confirm it will make a difference. getting an i3 in a few days, try some benching on that.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
My power brick is only 120W. I don't think it's enough when both the 920XM and the 5870 get cranked up. I'm going to have to go shopping again.
Edit: Inapp, WTH an i3? -
yeah i kinda feel the same, maybe with the i3, i can finally crank the 5870 higher. yeah maybe i should get that powerbrick too. i seem to have caught the benching bug, hahahah.

Maybe Mandrake will advise us on this matter. He might start getting reluctant to tell you too much more until he regains the Vantage crown.
-
yeah i did try and ask about it but didn't really get a response but he didn't have the M15x at the time. he did say the asus was 150 also and he did get some very good score on 06 with that.
and yeah this is the world famous paperclip, hahahhah -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
I think 150W is probably plenty.
-
ok i'll hold off on the power brick, still have this $50 dell gift card dieing to be used, hahahah
-
If your PS was an issue during OC'ing it would shut down on you.

Anyways I scored 2024 on high resolution (1080p) and 3300 on low resolution (720p). Still kind of disappointed in these scores given that its still is a $1500+ machine, but I am on the 900p screen.
Square Enix regards to the benchmark scores:
[8000 and over] Extremely High Performance
Easily capable of running the game on the highest settings.
[5500–7999] Very High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform exceptionally well, even at higher resolutions.
[4500-5499] High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform well, even at higher resolutions.
[3000-4499] Fairly High Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings. Consider switching to a higher resolution depending on performance.
[2500-2999] Standard Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings.
[2000-2499] Slightly Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but may experience some slowdown. Adjust settings to improve performance.
[1500-1999] Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but will experience considerable slowdown. Adjusting settings is unlikely to improve performance.
[Under 1500] Insufficient Performance
Does not meet specifications for running the game.

The only machine I saw online that scored abit over 8000 was nonetheless an overclocked desktop i7 980x with HD 5870 GPU, however you're looking at 4000 to 5000 with an average desktop i7 930 with HD 5870 GPU, very demanding game. This benchmark does not support any SLi or XFire configurations yet.
I was hoping to max this game before purchasing the M15x, well I guess thats not happening. -
looks like you got everything to work rwchui. congrats. tempted to run this bench now, lol.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Re-ran at low setting for someone else. It's a demanding game, but it looked very good at both resolutions (low setting running in a window).
-
Gee i thought this game was a ps3 exclusive.. and that its not out yet.. lol.

Hi Guys,
After using my M15x for a few weeks I'm ready to do a little Oc'ing of the 260m.
I'm using 197.16 drivers, can't alter clocks with Nvidia System tools, and can't get Rivatuner to detect the correct Performance 3D clocks, so as a result can't overclock much because the slider bar just isn't big enough lol.
I presume the system tools issue is because of the drivers. Are there specific drivers required for it to work correctly with the 260m? -
what version of nst are you using, make sure its the latest.
hey rev any tips on oc'ing the cpu? man your awesome, your always around, hahahha -
Thanks inap! You helped me alot, yea i guess everything is working just fine..
-
have fun gaming -
Here is my rig with the 5850 flashed to 5870 speeds....
Uploaded with ImageShack.us -
Nice score and temps. Should have no issues with games.
My benching of my M15x has been "suspended" until I get a new heatsink which is due in Monday. -
Thanks ...
I am thinking i want to flash it maybe a bit higher and leave it there since the temps are good .. Was thinking along the lines of what The Revelator has his flashed to 750/1050 ...
The card can handle alot more so im trying to find a happy medium and squeeze out as much performance as i can before temps go to crazy... Im not sure about the 1.05 voltage though and how high and stable i can go but i guess its going to take some long term testing to figure it all out...
What happened to your heatsink ?.... -
wow nice score quad, what clocks were you using?
-
Just stock 5870 700/1000 -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Nice scores, Quad. Looks like overclocking the 5850 is the way to go for most people.
-
-
Here is 750/1050 ... No cooler and its fairly warm in my room right now as well ... 9 Cell battery is probably helping bring more cool air in though since its propped up in the back end....

nice improvement
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
What score did you get with the 5850 at stock clocks?
-
-
Overall its a good improvement from stock and no heat issues is a bonus.. -
Any step by step guide showing how to flag a card?
Great score QUAD seems like the 5850 is a great match for this laptop.
Did you repaste to get such great temps? -
