Yo... just benchmarked my M15X (confirmed NOT in Stealth Mode) using 3Dmark06 and 3D Mark Vantage and I'm not really sure what to make of the difference in scores. Actually it would be nice to get your SME opinions on the scores in general. I think I am doing ok but......? Thanks in advance for the help.

tk, ok, I did the battery out power drain reset, turned wireless off and confirmed stealth off... here's what I got on the new run:

    3DMARK06 @ 1280-1024
    10,571 - 3D MARK SCORE
    4057 - SM2.0
    4272 - HDR/SM3.0
    4635 - CPU SCORE

Is this good for my setup or do I need to do more grooming and if so, what should I do?

To get the crazy scores other members have gotten you have to OC both the CPU and GPU.
That score still seems a little under from what you should have.

    @Panther
I know this a stupid question but....
Did you have the laptop set up in performance mode and plugged in when you ran the benchmarks?
If so it could hamper performance.

You should run GPUz to check that your GPU is running at the proper speed, clocks should be 550/950/1350.

For comparison this is my stock score in Vantage:

Nice score, I guess it just shows that there's little to no difference between a 5850/5870. AW probably just took 5870s and underclocked them.

I thought he did have a 5850 but his sig says 260GTX and yeah it did sound crazy.
I should have payed closer attention to his post but it clearly shows he is using ATI.

If anyone can link me to the tools and step by step guide to OC the GTX 260m, I can try to see what I can do, as I have never OC an nVidia GPU before. (Yes, i'm an ATI Fanboy :))

I have both the ATi 5850 and GTX 260m.

I sold my Clevo a couple months ago with no intention of getting the M15x.. Stuff just happens and deals come along etc... It was certainly not "The plan"...

Nice machine though ... Only flaw i have found with the machine is the cheap plastic bottom panel takes away from overall build quality but eh you cant win em all...

I found the build quality moving up from the M15x to the M17x to be nearly identical. Sure the M17x is made of aluminum but the overall feel didn't change much apart from the weight.

They are basically identical except for the flimsy plastic panel on the bottom .... You can feel it flex when picking it up etc... They could have made it with some better plastic and maybe added a tad bit of extra weight to the machine and it would have been worth it ... The one on the M17x is great ...

@^^ ya bottom panel does feel kinda cheap. It's actually kind of weird, how everything is sturdy but the bottom panel is cheap plastic. But not really an issue anyways, since if you hold it by the grip, then u dont really touch the bottom panel. Anyways......

Curious to know how much my benchmark differs with the Dell ATI driver than for someone with the 10.5 or 10.6 drivers.. I ran street fighter 4 benchmark on absolutely everything maxed out including AA, Texture, and everything else. Obviously I can't go beyond 1600x900 resolution. I got a "B" rating. My FPS were averaging around mid 40s. RIght now i turned down AA to 4x and kept everything maxed, and I'm getting consistent 59-60 fps in game. Does anyone have a benchmark with new drivers or newer than mine? I dont want to change drivers since I'm too lazy.

Also wondering what type of fps are people getting with SC2? Keep in mind I have the 900p screen and 5850.

Turn off Vsync on Streetfighter since your FPS are a constant 59-60 its clearly telling me Vsync is on....

I can run the benchmark later and let you know what i get with the 10.6s...

Ya, i shouldve mentioned that, but I did turn v-sync off. I think it automatically brings fps down to monitor refresh rate, which is 60.

That actually seems really low even for a beta version. Were those on absolute max everything?

@QUAD - I'm using the internal game fps monitor. I'll try with Fraps when i get home and see again without v-sync. If you could benchmark with 10.6 that would be great!. Thanks!

I scored 116.39 without AA on and 42 with 8xAA on but looking through other peoples benches from the past the performance hit should not be almost 80fps for enabling AA so something is up and ill have to do some more digging....

AA should not come with much of a hit at all for the ATI cards because it was using DX10.1 AA which was optimized for ATI and i remember running this benchmark on my W90 and not seeing this kind of a performance hit with AA...

Installed the Official Dell drivers and the results were similar at 114.98 no AA and 46 with 8xAA...

Im running the benchmark tool version of SF4 and not the full game so im not sure if there is any differences there but i doubt it ...

Wow these Dell drivers are terrible ... Crysis differences below... Dell vs 10.6.... 10.6 top 2 and Dell the bottom 2... Lower fps number is all high and the higher fps number is all high except shadows on medium and post processing on low (how i play the game)...

You can install the 10.6 drivers with your GPU? Has there been a break through or is this the actual difference between the AW 5850 and 5870. If so I would say the 5850 is the better card.

so far the 5850 has been able to install all the ati drivers, but manually or changing the config file.

Yep you can install them very easily on the 5850 just by editing the installer.cfg to look like this ...

    WorkaroundInstall=true

So run the driver like you were going to install it then cancel it after it extracts to your specified folder then go to the config folder inside and edit that installer.cfg with notepad to what i have above, then just run it like a regular driver and no need to point at the driver through device manager etc....

Someone else pointed out this workaround in which i think they said InappropriateName_3 was who helped them ...

I was doing the manual install through device manager prior to this and it worked but this was alot easier :)...
