You definitely need a 1mm pad for the CPU heatsink. My proc was running too hot until I changed it from a .5mm pad to a 1mm pad.

i was talking about the gpu... which thermal pads are u talking about for cpu... I applied mx-3 and idle temp dropped by 7c... but a strange thing happens now... every 5-10sec the temp on all the cores are same and then change to different figures

Yep strictly speaking GPU here... My CPU temps are good .. 39 ish idle and max after an hour of Prime 70-72... I have not even bothered touching the paste on the CPU actually to see if i can get them better since i rarely see 62 after gaming etc and normal use...

I know you hate fan noise, so how is compared to your CLEVO?
    Those are some great temps!

It can get some what noisy but not even remotely compared to the M17x underload... Certainly noisier then the Clevo and the G73 though ....

If it were to bad i would have gotten rid of it already though so its not horrible i guess is the best way to put it ..

Yeah i figure one of these days you will find a system you want :D...

I see you in so many system threads asking so many questions its hard to get a reading of what you have your eyes set on ...

Do you still have your old 17inch Clevo/Sager ? and also the 15 inch Asus i believe ?...

    Yes sir!
But it's time for a upgrade.
Giving the ASUS to my bro and keeping the CLEVO for work.
It's just way to big to be hauling back and forth.
Never had a AW so it's about time.
M17x is a really great laptop but I think I'm done with 17 inchers and the M15x seems almost exactly what I'm looking for now that they have the 5850.
I don't see anything coming in a 15" laptop that will outperform this for a while so I should be set at least for a couple of months...lol.

The M15x is a good choice for what your looking for from the sound of it but it is on the huge side of a 15inch im not going to lie... Its really a 17inch with a 15.6inch screen as it weighs more then both the Clevo and the G73 + similar dimensions to both of those...

The CLEVO and G73 are great but not a AW ;)
I don't see them gaming any better than the M15x, and it's about the same size of my G60 so I should be used to it.
The only problem I see is the touchpad but I can overlook that + it's just looks so much cooler than any of those.

Gaming temps are really the one that matters, furmark is more extreme then any games. But try redoing your paste, it may help lower your temps even more.

There is the riva tuner fix, but only worry about when it happens in games, furmark is known to cause throttling in the 260.

Dont sweat it Rengsey just call them and all should be fine...

Might want to cut back on the crazy mods lol and just stick with a stock heatsink for the future though ... The factory one has proven to be just fine IMHO...

Mandrakes Temps look great and even better then mine so once those 0.5m pads come ill be chasing down his temps as best i can...

I've been running Vantage CPU and so far I've hit 16.6K. This system reacts very good to additional cooling. It can easily add 2K points to the CPU score. Your 17.4k score is impressive. I haven't seen that high since the G73. You did that with a multi of 24?

Yeah I get over 17k. With the stock multi. But I think my 11k vantage run it was 25. I really don't know how to oc the cpu so any more I would bsod.

It's not an easy task because of system constraints.

A 17K CPU run in Vatange should get you over the 17K mark in 3DMark06 with 940|1100 GPU clocks.

When Moo was benching his system he was only doing GPU runs. If you do JUST a GPU run simply set the affinity for Vantage to run on the even cores/threads. Then try upping your multiplier. See how that turns out. ;)

Well, I overclocked my 5850 to 750/1050 and ran furmark stability test with the xtreme(Am I the only one who thinks thats lame?) burning mode on, at a res of 1280x1024 (With MSAA at 0) for around ten minutes with an average temp(according to furmark) of between 92-94C

    Good? bad? help?

Are those safe temperatures? And is ten minutes at those settings a good enought test of stability.

I ran the benchmarking mode(60 seconds, and same settings) and got 1113.

    Is that good or bad?

Also could someone explain to me why the AMD overclock tool REFUSES to accept whole numbers? It annoys me to no end.

I've been running benchmarks with both the Dell & AW 5870s in Vantage and I was able to hit 9950 GPU with both of them. Right now the biggest difference between the two cards is the Clevo cards actually let's me run my 120Hz monitor at 120Hz while gaming. My G73, M17xR2, and the M15x with Dell 5870 won't let me do that.

Also, can you check if Sound over DP works for the Dell 5870?
