the best is the rice grain, put a bit of paste in the center and put the heatsink directly, it will spread the paste to the places that need the paste, as inap teached to me ;), lol

    That's what I did.
    :(

Anyways, it might be my paste (Arctic Silver Ceramique) cause it's really thick...

Reddid it again, hopefully it helps...

Oh, I think it's actually the memory that gets up to 103C. :S

i use ceramique to, but you can always try another paste, like mx-3 or diamond ic, or artic silver 5, but with caution because its electrically conductive

When you applied ceramique, did you see an instant difference between the stock one, cause I don't think I did...

no, after the aplication the temps can be even worse than before, ts because the artic ceramique has cure time, around 200 hours of thermal cycles but if you think you've applied normally, use the notebook without charging too heavy applications such as crysis and you will se that the temperatures will go down

Do you know where to get some decent thermal pads? The memory temps are the ones reaching 103C.

Wow. Crap. It hits 94C even when only playing some Mw2 for 10 minutes. :(

@ Above, could I just cut it to size myself?

the frozen cpu pads are great but their shipping is kinda pricey, but the good thing is a sheet goes a long way.

he meant they are out of stock on the sheets, so you will have to call them and they will cut you a sheet. then you cut them smaller when you use them.

really strange, the 5850 should run much cooler, if tomorrow were not lower temperatures perhaps the heatsink is damaged and you should call tech service

Yep, felt a lot of hot air blasting out. :/

Current temps according to HWmonitor say that the memory is at 66C, Shader @ 63C, DispIO 59C, and GPU thermal diode @ 65c.

CPU temps are @ 43C on all cores.

miahsoul have you got any thermal paste to see if your thermal paste is not getting proper contact with the heatsink. also when i redid my paste the paste was slapped on very little care done with that and my temps have significantly dropped

They have good contact, I've checked, the paste was covering basically all of the GPU. Again, I've said the GPU itself doesn't get higher than 85-7C while the memory likes to get into the 90s-100s.

I got the best results with my temps by starting from the right top corner screw and following the screw pattern opposite of what is recommended and all the while applying pressure to the heatsink as i was bolting it down....

Without doing all the above my temps were horrible period.....

i had to do something very similar on my Clevo when i had it and the 5870m as well ...

Could you explain a little bit more?

Do you mean the screws of the heatsink and the fan, or just the four screws of the heatsink?

And when you screw them (lol), you do it from the top right one and go clockwise?

@ Above, Hwmonitor lists the different temps. The one listed as "mem" was the one that hit 90-100c.

Apply pressure to the heatsink so its making contact and start at 4 to 3 to 2 to 1 and do a little at each one until all are secure.

i think he meant the screws on the heatsink, when looking from the backend start with the top right screw then next would be left bottom screw, never do clockwise or counterwise.

    Got it. Doing it now.

Just did it, reduced main GPU and Shader speeds significantly (80C max for Shader, 76C for GPU) but those pesky memory temps still hover around 95C.

I've been having issues with my OCZ drive and I found out they had released a new firmware for it.

    Results look good....
(Yes this is a M15x benchmark)

250 writes and 250+ reads is pretty darn good for a single drive.

Are there any alternatives? (as in brands)

Or could I just use my AS-C thermal paste in place of the pads?

you can check ebay, normally they have a few brands available. you will need pads for the ram because gap is to big for just paste.

Actually you can try paste since the gap is much thinner then normal in this case... As long as the paste your using is non conductive your fine....

I was going to use paste but i got some 0.5m pads which were thinner then the stock ones(thanks to you know who you are ;)) but in the end my temps were no better nor worse the the stock ones that i stretched out ....

If you have nothing else there to try its certainly not going to hurt anything and your results could very well be better then what you currently have....

Glad to see my method of bolting down the GPU helped your temps though :)...

Its hard to say how far other then just enough to get them flat and thin without tearing... Its rather tricky since they are made up of some rather strange substance which is a mixture of gum and string lol... You gotta be careful doing it is the main thing or they will get trashed in no time...

If you're still running 750/1100 clocks, you really ought to downclock the memory until you get the temps under better control. Nothing good can happen as you approach or pass 95-100C.

Tested it again, at stock speeds. Gets up to 91C after 3-4 minutes.

What's a good tool to monitor fan speeds and such? HWmonitor claims it was only running at 15 RPM.

Just received my replacement system and I noticed my idle GPU temps are a bit higher than my previous unit. After overclocking to 700/1000 I get around 59c at idle...and it hits 92c after only 3 mins of Furmark. Should I be concerned with these numbers?

Keep in mind, I'm also running on top of a Zalman NC2000 cooler.

Took off those pads and used some of the AS-C on the memory thingies. Get 86C after 10 minutes of FurMark. :p

Plus, the GPU and Shaders never reach over 72C.

I'm guessing it will keep on going down after it burns in.

Probably won't OC until a week from now.

Got any good free programs (that aren't too big, cause ATT internet is and only get 10kbps download while they advertised 3mbps) that I could use?
