I just tried wPrime 32 and 1024. I got 16 and 495 seconds respectively. Is this good for a 820QM?

Temps were normal IMO, highest was 73C.

So you applied your thermal paste right onto the memory?
    won't that be bad?

as long as the paste is non conductive it should be fine.

I may pick up some paste this weekend, but are there any good instructional guides/videos out there on applying the thermal paste/pads?

I ran a few more tests when I got home tonight...

I didn't have my notebook cooler with me, but for some reason my temps are a bit lower tonight. Ambient room temp is about the same as the office though. After overclocking to 700/1000 my idle GPU temps hovered around 54c-56c, and it reached 90c after 5 mins of Furmark.

    I need pics :)
Where exactly is the memory on the GPU anyway?

When you yank off the heatsink there are 8 black chips and thats all the memory... Impossible to miss :)...

Glad someone took the suggestion of using paste ...

the memory is the rectangle black chips that surround the GPU die. They usually are samsung chips

So covering them all with thermal paste/pads reduces heat ?
    All of them?

It more about the contact with the heatsink. Normally you would need pads for the memory to make contact and that helps cool them off. Using paste sounds really messy. ;)

Maybe it's because I just received the replacement yesterday...but it looks like the temps are much better now than when I first started...

Do these seem okay after a 5min stability test?

Select logging within furmark so it displays your temps during the test. You will see if the temps are on a steady climb or throttling down.

Ahh, thanks for the info...I was wondering why Furmark wasn't recording temps...I've been using HWinfo, on the side...I know they're hard to read...

I'll try to do some runs later today, but work is calling...other than the temps, this replacement system is perfect so far!

yeah no oc at all on it. do you think its pulling to much power because i can run at higher gpu clocks around 940 but still not pass the 9900.
yeah i am running it with an ac unit. my 11k pscore was the only time i get both high score for gpu and cpu.

Yeah I installed the card myself while the tech watched. I did let him touch the GPU, and when I wasn't looking a quick second, he pop in the GPU fan without the heatsink. lol... BUt of course I didn't make him feel bad though. He also forced the GPU in the slot in horizontal instead at a slant. But everything worked out great. He got to play a few games, and he was loving it. lol.....

Hi rwchui and the other peeps here,

i am running the stock dell drivers for the 5850 and am facing the same problem you faced. Cant seem to install the new 10.6 drivers which would let me run the FF14 benchmark.

Why oh why are driver installations for ATI drivers so difficult? (i have tried installing 10.4 and 10.5. All are unable to install as it keeps saying the current dell driver is the most up to date).

Could you teach me how to do the installation for the 10.6 step-by-step, please?

well first you have to uninstall your old driver then reboot, if you did that right, you will end up with a standard vga driver. then extract the new driver. find the config folder and open up the install manager file with notepad. change install workaround = false, change false to true and save. then install using the install exe.
