probably need to resize your pic, alittle to big bro. i'm sure you can push it further if you get the right cooling, aka ac unit, hahaha

Very nice scores Inap... Keep it up and you will break that 10k GPU score...
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
So, has the pull of the 480M proved irresistible?
-
Honestly i have no clue whats next... Hemi winked since he knows im interested in that card but the price just really does not justify the performance ....
Speedy Gonzalez and i are close friends outside of here and even he is not saying GET ONE NOW since he knows its not much faster then the 5870.... Especially for the cost...
I want one just to tinker with but i also want a Ferrari and well yeah that aint happening lol... -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
I share your feelings about the 480M. But it would be fun to play with if you could up the voltage a little.
-
Rev did you get your problem shorted out yet? And yeah I would love to test drive a 480 and a ferrari, lol.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Not yet, Inap. Probably going to be the end of the week. Pretty boring.
Great new scores by the way. -
Not really new scores, just reposting for Dr650. Still have my 260 in at the moment, waiting for level 3 tech to respond tomorrow, see if I can get a 5850. Well I hope its just the psu bro. Down time with a system is boring.
Dang quad I guess you weren't kidding when you said you change systems often. Geez you go through laptop like a go through shoes, lol. Wish you luck on your sell. -
Lol in the same boat as you inap (by the way... i see the name Inap stuck huh? lol and you officially changed it since i was last here
good stuff bro lol )
Waiting for lvl3 tech to call me back tomorrow or weds... i sent him an e-mail... to hurry things along hopefully (i doubt it).
Anyways does anyone know what the pricetag of a 480m is? It is the fastest mobile gpu right now... but as it sucks up 100watts... you can just get dual 5870m's which will blow it out of the water. so im just wondering... if the price of two 5870's is still cheaper than one 480m? Anyone know?
EDIT: and yea Quad... didn't you just get your m15x? lol Dayummmm -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
R&J is selling the 480M at $940. The 5870's go for $350 each.

Still have no clue whats next since i have pretty much tried every system worth owning now...
G73,Clevo 8760,M17x R1 and R2, M15x...
The Clevo with the 480 would be nice but spending $600 extra over the 5870m version is not the brightest move atleast for me ... -
Haha yeah they let me change it to whatever I wanted, but everyone already calling me inap already.lol
Yeah I'm wondering about the 480 prices myself, but really want to see the thermals for it, since the 5870 is already pretty hot. I got feeling its gonna .make the m15x explode,Haha. -
Lol yea... i read one reviewer (might have been notebookcheck) saying that the 5870 is more practical to get since its cheaper, keeps up with the 480m in some situations (480m owns in tesselation heavy situations though), is wayy cheaper, uses less power and runs alot cooler....
So for him to say it runs alot cooler.. heck the 480m must friggin REALLY heat up! and i thought the 5870m ran hot...sheesh!
Can't wait to get an ATI... i dunno..i guess im just loyal to ati... ever since i was a kid and my first gaming pc had an ati (all-in-wonder 9800 pro was it?) in it.. i stuck with them everr since.. this gtx 260m is the first nvidia i've owned... good card none the less though... although a little outdated now, it still keeps up with modern games pretty well, and OC's very nicely! -
Actually the 480m in both the machines its in runs about the same if not cooler then the 5870m but thats still little reason to justify the extra cost...
Strangely enough also the 480m on battery uses less power then the 5870m in the battery tests lol...
Either way it aint really worth it...
The Tessellation stuff it is better in but there are just to few games using DX11 as it is and by the time DX11 hits the main stream we will be probably 2 generations further in mobile cards ... -
yeah ati is so much more ahead of the game i find... and charges less too!
but hodl the phone... how did we read two exact opposite things? ima find the link on what i read just gimme a sec...
can it be your thinking about the "hinted" 460m release?
and the 480m is 100watts, whereas the 5870m is 50watts....? -
Nah there are benches with temps all over the place in the Sager forums plus my friend owns ones and he can game for hours on it and hit like 71 max on the GPU... It runs very cool ... BabyHemi also owns one and his temps are the same which are very low and really impressive...
As for the battery life here is a link it will show you...
Fermi Goes Mobile: AVADirect's Clevo W880CU with GTX 480M - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News
They dont show the Clevo vs Clevo in there but they say it matches the G73 and the G73 is using a 720 vs the 820 in the Clevo... So not apples to apples..
Either way the 480m runs cool and is not the energy hog unplugged like many including myself would have thought or alteast not worse then the ATI... -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Still, 18,000 in 3d06 and 12,000 in Vantage is pretty amazing for a single GPU mobile rig.
-
i know about battery life.... but thats because the 5870m uses alot of power when idling because it doesn't downclock! but thats an easy fix...
and runs cooler in a 17'' laptop maybe? there aren't any 480m's available in 15inch laptops for a reason... -
The Clevo 8690 runs basically as cool as its big brother the 8760 with the ATI cards so this will not be any different...
On the 8760 they use both the CPU fan and the GPU fan to cool the card by running a heatpipe infront of the CPU fan back to the GPU and they can do the same on the 15 incher... -
well as i don't have any personal experience with a 480m, and am just going by what reviewers have posted... i must proceed to believe what you are saying
i just find it hard to imagine that a card with double the power consumption... runs cooler? Nvidia must have some madd tricks up its sleeve lol... -
The ATI cards are not using only half the power of the Nvidia cards its how ATI measures power consumption vs how Nvidia does it ...
Theres a thread somewhere explaining it all.. -
only way to tell for sure is to hook up a kill-a-watt meter to two exactly the same spec'd laptops... one with a 480m... and one with a 5870m... call me crazy... i'd put my money on the 5870m using less...
now if only i could somehow round up a 480m, a 5870m, and a kill-a-watt meter... hmmmm ... now here did i put that ski-mask... -
The 5870m will certainly draw less power but not as much as people think ...
Speedy Gonzalez for instance has a kill O watt hooked up to his machine with a 980x Destkop CPU(6 core extreme) and the 480m and it uses 190watts .... His machine is the NP9285 and its a beast...
Ok i think we have derailed the benchmarking thread enough so lets let them get it back on topic....
-
You're probably right. and agreed
-
All these new posts and no new benchmarks...
-
-
everyone gave up once you bought an M15x Mandrake, lol.
-
Yeah the thread should be called..
Mandrakes M15x Benchmark thread and anyone else who wants to give it a shot ....
...
-
I'm waiting for my 5850m to bench... i have the gtx 260m and no1 cares about that... so it aint so rewarding to bench it... although i did achieve 6200+ for the gpu in vantage a while back... -
i'll gave it another go, once everything is resolved with dell. just hoping for number 2 spot, hahahahaha
-
I left 10K GPU for you Inap....show everyone how it's done. -
hahaha i feel so honored, lol thanks now time for me to go buy a mini freezer.
-
You know what.. im so bored i think ima bench with my lil old GTX 260m, before dell takes it away... see what i can squeeze outta it. -
hahah your 6.2k was pretty impressive already, hopefully i can take care of this tomorrow. then back to ati, yeah!!!!
-
-
i will break 10 k
I did it once ... -
I'm happy with my 8941 without proper cooling. -
wowwww couldn't friggin do anything! i was throttling so much using 197.45 drivers running vantage with A06... i remeber a05 didnt throttle during vantage... and i tried 186.xx also and it didn't throttle... but scores were REAL LOW.... awell i give up on you gtx260m...
-
It's just so sad about the nvidia GPU's. I remember I used to not buy anything but Nvidia. It's been years now and I'm still happy with my ATI cards. I like the idea of Cuda and Physics though.
-
hey its only the 260 that throtttles... and after all.. the 480m is the fastest single gpu solution out right now for notebooks...
-
Just got P9951 combined. I'm sure I can crack 10k when I'm at home cause I know my CPU score can go much higher than 11900. GPU was around like 9450ish with a 875/1100 overclock. Probably could get up to 9650 with my AC unit blowing into the vents. XD
-
wow your 5850 is a beast thats the highest i've seen, you may have jstars golden key, hahahaha
-
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! LOL
I'm excited not for the card, but just to see how well it can OC.... i have a feeling im gna be disappointred with mine
EDIT: Called dell and asked them if they can just send me the card, and i'll install it. They didnt want. Im wondering once the guy gets here (should be getting a call tomorrow they said), can i just tell him:
"listen buddy, i know you think you know what you're doing and all, but just give me the card and ill install it myself... go buy a coffee n donut in the meantime" lollll
Think he'll mind? Or Maybe while hes struggling to install it, i can "go walk my dog outside" and see what he has in that van of his -
I like the see what's in his van idea. You can always reinstall the gpu. Only one chance to take a peek at the van.
-
Van... my tech came in on a old beat up integra, and he was more than happy to let me replace my stuff myself. Good ole dell.hahah
-
hahahahaha... well i hope mine has a van
-
Just so i can get ready... whats the best program to OC the 5850/5870? does EVGA precision work well? or AMD GPU tool? Thanks
-
Rbe to flash your card and amd gpu tools combine will gave good result.
-
flash? you mean to a 5870m vbios
and what version of it? -
normally when benching i flash it, it more stable than using gpu tools. i'm forgot which version i'm using but here is a link to a write up the wiz made for me, should have everything you need but just don't use the bios listed.
