Don't use other card's vbios (I found out the hard way), just get the vbios from your 5850 with WinFlash, change the clocks RBE, and reflash it with ATIflash in a bootable DOS enviroment. zFactor has a great guide to make the flash drive bootable.

I tried going to 925 and it froze, so I tried amp the voltage up to 1.2 (up from 1.1) and my AMD GPU tool stopped working for me. :(

Have to reset to my normal bios.

man if you can push 925 that would be insane, did you try 900?

you can set clocks and voltages with flashing. everything you need i linked in the last page. and rep the wiz for his time writing it for me.
normally i flash to my max stable clocks then oc alittle bit to bench.

oh ok so i when i find stable "decent clocks" lets just say... 800/1100 run perfectlyt stable.... i flash my 5850m to keep those clocks as stock...so when i reboot, it'll always keep the OC....

And then from there... when im pushing my card to its limits for benching.. i use AMD gpu clock tools to temporarily OC the clocks for the bench/game/wtv....

    correct?

lol well its nothing too complicated...and i used to friggin OC cpus/gpus back in the day like crazy...

And flashing a gpu can have several meanings lolll

from flashing to diff stock voltages, to flashing voltages to flashing vbios'...

Wasn't sure what everyone was referring to and i wanted to be on the same page :)

Thanks buddy! Can't wait to get that badboy now :)

I pretty much do what you described, only instead of high stable overclocks I was trying to undervolt it further. Once I have a card with my Dell warranty I won't care though (and will overclock it to its limit).

Thermal paste is going on in a few days, as soon as I get a new tube of thermal paste (went with IC7 this time). As far as the temps go, is there anything else other than raising the back end that I can do to lower them? The CPU temps are just fine as you can see, It's the GPU I need cooled.

Paste is not your problem with Temp 1 (core) at 71.5*C, that is excellent. The high temps are the memory chips (95*C), which would suggest pad issues. But more fundamentally, 1187.5 is a very aggressive overclock on the 5850. You can probably drop it back to 1100 +/- with little or no decrease in performance, but a measurable reduction in temps. Then try easing the core to 825 or 850. You may end up with more performance and less heat overall.

I found out something interesting- I installed the ATI Stream program and set the 5850 at 850/1075 then ran 3dMark Vantage. I had to stop the benchmark due to the really low frame rates.

Honestly i use OCZ freeze like you planned to but if your load temps are good then just leave it as is (if your capable of that as i can never leave stuff alone and sometimes regret it ;)) ..

Run Furmark for 10 minutes and show us your temps thats really all you need to do ... This will tell if you have good contact or not....

ok just did that... ran it for 13minutes actually...

temps fluctuated between 80-81 degrees celcius @ stock clocks.

How that? I'd say thats pretty good no? For standard paste :p

It depends what part of the GPU that was. If that was the vram that's amazing, if it's the core it's typical but still good.
