Editing the bios with RBE is a no brainer honestly..

Either way dont get to crazy to fast and brick your card ...

Honestly you are better off editing your own bios ...

Here is a great tutorial that Drake wrote on flashing the 4870s and if you download everything he tells you to and follow the instructions to the T you will be fine.... scroll down a little on that page..

    http://www.notebookforums.com/thread230061.html

Tonight what you should do is just some basic testing with the AMD GPU tool.... Overclock and test for stability etc....

If you want an everyday permanent overclock i would suggest something like 750/1050... Maybe a bit higher depending on your temps..

You have all the time in the world so no reason to rush into anything i would say...

yikes, no. We were flashing the MSI vbios on the Clevo cards. You'll brick the AW card if you do that.

lol got the mismatch msg and it failed cuz i used the "-fs" switxch instead of "-f" ... THANK GOD... or i would've blew my chance of having a 5870m that Dell gave me by accident... and wouldve had a bricked card.

What i'm thinking now is... Does Dell have a 5850m on my spec sheet under warranty? or a 5870m? how can i check this?

I'd call them to verify. I wouldn't worry about if it shows up as a 5850 or 5870.

Yeah i would not worry about it sine they are the same exact card just with a different part number on them....

Thankfully that flash didnt work but its to bad you didnt listen to my warning....I told you to wait till tomorrow before getting crazy  ....

As for overdrive how i got it working was by installing a modded driver i found in the Asus section though im not even sure where i found that driver now... It was based on 10.5...

haha thanks man :) best part is, if getting a 5870m wasn't enough dell is sending me an additional 9cell battery (i have a 6cell) and a replacement fan (that i don't need really, but i'll keep as backup :) )

    so if i calculate.... 5870 = 350$, 9cell = 150$ fan=30$

thats what? 530$ worth of upgrades ... just for complaining ... not bad... worth every second of it :D

and yea i would LOVE to post some numbers... but it'll have to wait till i get home tonight.... im at work :(

Hey guys, quick question. You know how the GPU will lower its clock when there isn't much stress on it? Well mine will do it occasionally in games when the load goes down to zero, but the load will quickly go back up and the clock speed takes a second to get up there, resulting in a good couple of seconds of glitchy gameplay at 20fps. Is there any way to stop this? By stop it I mean lock it on a certain clock speed? Neither rivatuner nor atitools has worked with my setup and I would prefer it if I didn't have to install anymore software but I will if I have to. Thanks a bunch guys!

suuuuuweeeet! 990? What cooling are you using?

Not only did they hook you up with a 5870, they hooked you up with quite the over-clocking version.

only a fan blowing air over M15x...temps didnt pass 73..moslty 60s...ambient temps 22.0C

I think i might be able to push it further.. at those core clocks i feel like the memory is causing a bottle neck

EDIT: LOLL i know!!!! I told you good things come in threes! Also, i took a closer look at the paste dell tech used..because even when ocing my temps are fantastic ( i must have done the best paste job i've ever done in my life lol...and stuck thermal pads everywherrree too lol ) and its Shin-Etsu Microsi ... never used it before.. btu ive heard good things about it! he left me the tube.

    Explains the good temps!

1000 crashed... not sure if its because there is a limiter on the bios or something... how can i check? the limiter on RBE are shaded grey... does that mean they are open?

    Wait. What the @*#@?
How is your stock clock 850MHZ. Did you like get a freaking 5870 on roids? XD

On the other hand. I almost bricked my M15x by cranking up the ram to 1600 mhz in the BIOS. After 20 attempts to start up, it finally started and I cranked it back down to 1333.

Can it get your GPU temps into the teens before starting? Cooling is the most important aspect. Before I got my portable AC unit I was putting my system on top of a vent in our house and cranked up the AC. :p
