yea if you're running 850/1075 on stock volts (1.05v) ... you're pretty much reaching its limit... i haven't tried 1.10, but 1.15 are SUPER stable for me...

    hence the 995/1175 :D

hey mandrake, is it possible to make more pre-set clock speeds... like can i set up RBE to run like 100/150 on .9v 300/400 on 1v 700/1000 on 1.05 and like 850/1100 on 1.15v?

teach me your ways, master :D

Just benchmarked my 5850 last night... Here's the best I could go without flashing:

And apparently my system is from another planet (maybe the sun) because look at the temps I was hitting :O

@Jstarnino: Yes, it doesn't always work depending on the card but with the 4870/5870s it does. But like always you need to test for stability. The more you change the harder it will be to troubleshoot issues.

    it does, Stock.

you have to run RBE and edit your vbios to change that, save your vbios, and reflash your vbios with the new modified one.

Haha yeah I'm pretty sure some lucky kid in china just got a free M15x... Went all the way through the earth :O haha. I didn't feel the need for the 940XM but I'm still a little nerdy and into computers so I like benching and toying with settings.

Does anyone have a good guide for flashing the 260m? I'm thinking of upping the voltage for a couple benches. Since finding I can't yet OC my CPU I've been itching to do SOMETHING more :)

the gtx 260m doesn't like higher volatges that much ... i got BARELY noticeable improveents when OC'ing with 1v instead of .9v. but here, mayb you'll have better luck:

•Video Bios Flash for Overclockers: WARNING, THIS COULD BRICK YOUR SYSTEM IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

As promised, the instructions for flashing your video card are now available along with the necessary files. Please keep in mind that I have only tested these on my M15x and they work fine. Flashing your video bios can be risky and if done wrong will brick your video card. There are ways to recover it using a blind flash but that is left up to you to figure out. I only recommend this option for those that wish to overclock their video cards while using the rivatuner GPU throttle fix:

How to make bootable USB to flash the AW M15x Video Bios

    1. Download the HP USB Key Utility: HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8 Download - EXTREME Overclocking

    2. Download the Windows 98 system files: Windows 98 System Files Download - EXTREME Overclocking

    3. Download the bios .rom files (I've included the original oldbios.rom file and modified newbios.rom files) + nvflash files here: Download flashfiles.rar from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

    4. Install the HP USB Key Utility

    5. Launch the HP USB Key Utility and do the following:
    - Insert your USB thumb drive.
    - Select File system as "FAT32"
    - Select Format Option as "Create a DOS bootable Disk..."
    - Checkmark the box that says, "Quick Format"
    - Locate the directory you extracted the Win98 files.
    - Format the USB key using the the Win98 files.

    6. Copy all the files from step #3 to the USB key
    - nvflash.exe
    - newbios.rom
    - oldbios.rom
    -etc.

    7. Set your M15x bios to boot from USB Storage Device.

    8. Attach the USB key to the system, reboot and it will load a dos prompt.

    9. At the dos prompt you will need to type: nvflash -4 -5 -6 –A –y newbios.rom and when it asks if you want to flash the file, press ‘Y’.

    10. You are done! If everything went well, you will now have 1v for your 2nd level 3D clocks which should enable you to overclock your GPU

-> many thanks to 5150 Joker for providing us with this guide. be sure to rep :)

I guess i'd post this here also, as this could come in handy for many people in this thread. I made a guide on how to flash your 5870m/5850m for those who are a little confused on the matter :) Here's the link:

Hey guys! EA is having a special on Crysis and Crysis Warfare (50% off) and I was wondering if either is worth it and if they would even play that well on my M15x. Let me know what you think! Thanks a bunch. (The link is here)

Good games, played both (though they are a little old). Warhead is made a little better (a bit less of a resource hog).

with your config? would run great, so don't sweat it ;)

it used to run good with my gtx 260m on high settings,... better with it OC'd.

but with your 5850m, should play alot better. You can try doing a light OC on it to give you some extra frames if you see you need it, btu should be more than fine stock :)

Just don't expect to play on MAX MAX settings with over 35fps... you'll need dual 5870/480m's and a i7 980 with triple channel memory in a desktop for that...lol

yes, with directx 10, gamer settings, no AA i have around 36 fps, with a minimum of 18 or 19 in some places, this at my native resolution of 1600x900
i think that the ati will give you a better fps, but i dont know it

I have my 5850 overclocked to 805/1200 right now, it will go higher but I'm happy with it right now. I'm just irritated with the current ATI drivers and I can't wait until the new bios comes out... Maybe a better driver will follow! Lol.

On top of downloading Crysis Warhead, it's also downloading a thing called Crysis Wars. Is this like an add-on? Or did I just get two games for one?

Just flashed my VBIOS to 1.15v and 750/1150. I overclocked to 835/1225 and my 3DMark06 score was: 14688 and my 3DMark Vantage score was P9828. I can't seem to overclock much more than this though, is that pretty normal with a 5850?

Well first of all... There was slight sarcasm in my voice (I know it's hard to pick up in writing). And second of all, I paid the same exact premium as you, and If my hardware fails I will obviously take advantage of it. I do not abuse anything I own, but I am obviously going to take full advantage of my computer. If my computer fails within the warranty (THAT I PAID FOR) then I will take FULL advantage of it. Sorry if you are mad, but I am not trying to be an , it was just a quick comment I made that I didn't figure would bother anyone.
