That's fine, understandable. I run my GPU at stock clocks 24/7 anyway as the fans bother me. I understand how you could be upset but I did not mean it maliciously and I obviously am not out to cost you more money, as it would cost me more as well. I am not "that guy" and I don't plan to be. I just got my system 6 days ago and I hope it lasts me 10 years, I really do. It is late and I made a dumb comment, and for that I apologize. No hard feelings.

Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu knowwww it.. i'll abuse it all i can when i comes to scamming Dell. They scammed usby selling the M15x with a 260m that throttles... kinda like apples iphone4... except the masses of ppl didn't notice it with the M15x, so they got away with it.

I got my righteous payback wiyth the 5870m, 9cell and new cpu fan for free... so i shouldn't be complaining...

I missed out on what Zswichliffe said but i'd say give him a break. I've said a bunch of dumb things on these forums when i was drunk, and got banned for it too :p ..

I had the exact same problems with my Studio XPS 1640... which allowed me to end up with my M15x. That thing was unusable though. Between the heat/throttling/battery life and more, it was like owning a car from the 40s that was missing a carburetor.

Yeah but see thats where Dell shines... Sure many/most of there machines have some massive/glaring issues but eventually they will make good and possibly give you a brand new system...

I wont talk bad about them or try to intentionally hurt them because they have always done me right in the long run...

Plus there is the whole karma thing ;)... Do unto others etc...

Uhhh... IDK if this is normal but, sometimes my MW2 experiences a lag spike when something graphically intense is happening, like entering a large detailed environment. It's not like a regular lag spike, it literally freezes for a fraction of a second and then the framerates start climbing back up. Happens for a longer duration when I OC to 800 or 750 even though I can run Vantage 100/100 times on those clocks. Did I eff up my GPU by OCing too high. :S

And is an average of 55 FPS in Dragon Age Origins O.K. in Lothering or what ever it is called?

there's been some reported cases of throttling with the 5850/5870 at times... its not as bad as the 260m throttling issue, as it isn't easily replicated in synthetic tests ( i don't think it was ever) , but happens occasionally while playing games. Usually stock clocks are less vulnerable to it, but if you really want to OC, and are experiencing it more and more, you can force clocks on it using riva tuner... I'll find the guide that 5150joker put up for the 4870's...

The issue is suposedly an ATI driver problem and nothing more, so hopefully they fix it within the next couple of driver releases... ATI really should really step up their game with their drivers...

Hold up while i find the fix for it... :)

Here it is.. was goign crazy looking for it, and i was subscribed to it LOL...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...70-xfire-remove-throttling-if-applicable.html

+rep to 5150joker for once again, solving throttlign issues :)
i think im going to start calling him, the Throttle King :p

Just OC'd to 900/1200 and scored 14767 3DMark06, my highest yet. My temps Maxed out at 84C thanks to my new thermal paste, IC Diamond. :D. 96C->84C is a pretty damn good temp drop. How do you see your results more than once with 3DMark Vantage? I know you can only submit your scores once online, but can you see them on the program more than once?

Thanks, just a quick note: To use the above linked throttle fix, you guys need to substitute a 5850 bios in place of the 5870 bios I have in my post in order for RBE to put in the correct device string in RivaTuner. In J's case, my original post works fine since he has a 5870m.

Take a picture using print screen and copy + paste onto paint. Then save.

@ Jstarino, If it's a driver issue, I'm gonna be lazy and not try to fix it atm. It's barely noticable and doesn't affect me that much.

Oh yeah. I DLed wPrime 1.55, and my scores have improved by 1.5 seconds. What gives? o_O

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough. I only have the trial edition of Vantage and it only lets me view results online once per product key. I was wondering if there was a place offline to view them.

yeah man thanks i am pretty excited trying to get 3dmarks a little higher but in all honesty when i game i just leave it all on regular speeds for CPU and the video card at the flashed 750/1050 @ 1.15v and i get about 65-75 temps and hope to bring those temps down about 7-10 degrees with new paste. I bump the lower clocks up as well to 300/400 @ .9v

Warning to people who like to benchmark....

AW ATI 5870 and SLC SSD both dead.

I wasn't benchmarking when my AW ATI 5870 died, I was trying to play a youtube video and it kept locking up my system. After some basic troubleshooting I decided to just reinstall the OS. As soon as I tried reinstalling the ATI driver all I got was BSOD. I tried reseating the card and it now just gives me three beeps and a couple flashing lights.

The SSD did die while benchmarking. I actually think I got it too cold rather than too hot.

Now I do have a working Clevo ATI 5870 (revived), AW ATI 5870 and a 5850 on the way (some day) along with a couple extra SSDs so I'm prepared for this kind of stuff to happen.

Again, just a warning to all.

Yea i dropped everything back to stock. Voltages and all. Theres really no need, as 700/1000 does just fine in game ( more than fine actaully)

and benching..well... i hate doin them..

And sorry to hear about that Mandrake... but like Inap said... Do own a computer manufacturing plant or what? geeze man you swap expensive parts (ssds, 5870s) as often as i change boxers ( ok so maybe i change them a BIT more often.. LOL)

I got a pair of AW ATI 5870s early on, even before I got the M17x w/5870s. I then bought the Clevo card from Baby Hemi. When the first Clevo card died I bought a second one and I bought a 5850 from Dell. So I have 2 dead cards, 2 working and 1 coming in.

    Thanks.

When Moo finishes his we'll have three that we know of. It would be more popular if Colorware was more flexible and didn't charge so much to get it done. They lost my business because it was their way or it wasn't happening.

    Back on topic....

Anyone try Vantage with the 10.7 beta drivers yet?

    10.7

Didn't even know they were out! I'm gonna go read that chnagelog right now :p

Just came out today thats why! Damn Mandrake you're on top of your game! Big time! lol

    Seems the only change is:

ATI Catalyst™ 10.7 Beta Driver Feature:
The release of this software driver from AMD delivers support for the OpenGL ES 2.0 industry standard being developed to bring plug-in free 3D graphics to the Internet through open-source web browsers.

Guess i'll start using FireFox again...

These 5850's are pretty impressive, making P10,000+ Vantage performance generally accessible to single-card notebooks without an extreme processor. That would have been unimaginable a short time ago.

Thanks, Inap. This new M15x is thoroughly civilized -- low temps, decent performance, super screen and the same great look and feel. Sure do miss an SSD though, definitely the first upgrade.

Run it at 1680x1050 using DX10 and report your scores. It's a very demanding test, particularly in DX11 with tesselation enabled. You know your laptop is performing well from your 3dMark06 results. Scores in Heaven Bench are a matter of setup.
