AC, you're also comparing your card at 625/1000 to my card at 750/1050, but I was comparing my scores to your scores for your 750/1050 run. The only differences are a direct result of the clock differences. The other difference is the driver designation -- you used the Dell 10.8 driver; I used the ATI 10.8 version. The performance is identical, and I now use the same driver you have. I also ran at default (Performance) settings for Vantage, so no difference there.

I wish there was some easy answer or tweak that would get you back to full performance, but at the moment, none occurs to me except reinstallation of vbios and drivers.

Edit: one of the rare times I happen to hit here before you, Inap. LOL.

Indeed. That's great news, AC; it looks like you fixed it. It's lots more fun when things work the way they're supposed to. What did you do to finally unleash the power of the mighty 5850? Wonderful result.

Edit: A high temp of 86C during a 750/1050 Vantage run is tolerable, but just barely. You will eventually want to redo the paste and pads on the 5850. For purposes of comparison, here is a HWiNFO32 screenshot for a Vantage run I just finished using 750/1050 clocks:

    thanks for that

the problem i can forsee is that the bios doesn't have many (if any) options to adjust timings etc. we can only hope it runs on the SPD settings and not some pre-defined crappy timings.

might want to check the ram's default voltage since some of them prefer higher rating than standard. inap, did you check to see if the heatsinks will fit? o_O
i'm not familiar with the laptop version, but the desktop version came with massive heatsinks and even a fan module.

Im a dork.. you guys will find out soon enough. I know new mem will most likely not increase or impact your FPS by more than 1 percent but it's always interesting to see what the before and after is on any of the favorite/current games.

That's higher than you would prefer at stock clocks, but certainly not alarming. Just enjoy it for awhile now that it's hitting on all cylinders. Then one day, when the spirit moves you or temps increase with overclocking, open it up and apply new paste to both CPU and GPU, but I don't see any rush.

do the butt dyno lolzz...in the car world you do a mod and if it feels like you are getting thrown back in your seat or your butt dyno then you feel like the mod was worth it. Do you feel like you are flying by the seat of your pants with this mod what does your subconscious tell you....

i know this mod won't do much, but it was cheap and i couldn't resist a great deal, but you already know that.

probably use it for a week or two and resell it. already got offers on my 8gb ram and i didn't even post it up for sell, hahahaahah

@Faiz - the butt dyno.. dude you are making me laugh here.. Reminds me of the good ol' days in my new 94 civic ex when they first came out. Put on the cold air, header, exhaust and give it the BUTT DYNO to see how much faster it is... I guess that really is a good comparison to "feel" of system speed without official benchmarks..

Rep for you.. for pure nostalgia. Best Wishes, StevenX

here are some yucky stock runs. 940xm/5850
I ran the 940 @ 25 all across at stock tdp
    5850 @ stock 625/1000 @ 1v

benching @ stock doesn't feel right, hehehehe :D

if others would help out, DaneGRClose is putting together a chart of all configs @ stock, so newer members will have a simple chart to compare to.

Depends upon the definition of normal. At stock clocks (625/1000) and default multipliers (24-23-17-17), a 920XM/5850 will score a little over 13,000+/- in 3dMark06. Mildly overclocked to normal settings (750/1050 @ 24x), you get about 15,000+/-. More heavily overclocked (850/1075 to 950/1100+ at 26-27x), the best I've gotten was around 16,750, but Inap, Wattos and others have scored well over 17,000. So, while your run is the best I've ever seen around here for a 260M, it's not 4,000 points higher than the 5850's. Still, great run.

Thanks I think I can push it a bit further without having to mess with the voltage and everything seems very stable, the thing that confuses me is this card is a refurb that idle shader temps that are in the 60's even though core and ram are in the 40's. Even with the high idle shader temps nothing has broken mid 70's even full load with the oc. Starting to wonder if me pushing it that far without messing with voltages may have anything to do with running a low watt i5. May have to make a run at your 5850 record later tonight if it's still what I saw on the boards Inap! :wideeyed:

you seriously have a 5850 handpicked and delivered from the gods!
i can't push my 5870 past 900 without raising the vcore to 1.2v and the excess heat means i need an air-conditioner underneath blowing directly on the heatpipes to keep the temps in check.

at 1.15v it crashes during vantage even with low temps (under 60C)
funnily enough, between 1.05v and 1.15v there's almost no difference in max clock... perhaps it's not flashing correctly (clevo ver)? hmmmm tempted to muck around with the msi bios and give that a shot next, but last time i tried, it wasn't working with AGCT.

same with me when i had the clevo 5870, even at 1.15v i could only push to 950 and thats with extreme cooling.

this is my second 5850 and both could be pushed to 985-990 @ 1.15v

Thanks Inap, your help and Rev's help put me there. I'm gonna need to play with it some more tonight. I think anything beyond this point is gonna require some additional cooling, any higher on the core or vram and it would freeze about 1 min from the end of the last gpu test. I think I can take your score but it's gonna take some tinkering. Your score and mine should prove that the 5850 is an amazing card if nothing else.
