yours was a replacement card too right? i think the replacement cards are some how btter then the stock they ship it with, but its just a guess, since your the first to push it as high as i do.

you make me want to call in sick today, and stay in and do benches all days, heheheheh

Yup it is, it's a refurb replacement. The thing I'm torn on is Dell is sending me a brand new card that should be here later this week. This card performs amazingly but the shaders idle in the 60-70's, yup idle. I don't know if I want to keep it and risk it, but with an amazing performer, or if I keep the new card with better idle temps. What do you think?

hmmm thats tricky, i'm always about the performance, but i think some good thermal pads will help with the temps. but honestly you want a good cool card for daily uses. hmmm tell the tech to drop off the card so you can test it out, then call him to pick it up when your done, heheheheh. my tech always drops off the card and a shipping label for me, when i'm done i just ship it myself.

They're shipping the card straight to me, I don't deal with the techs in my area anymore. After both of them telling me they had never seen an Alienware before my m17x, one of them that was 19 years old tops, and the other one complain about his marriage the whole time and break the computer to top it off I don't let Dellienware techs touch my computer anymore lol. I have used both .5 and 1.0 mm aftermarket pads on this card and it doesn't help. They are the same type of pads that got my last card idling at about 38/43/38, same TX-4 thermal paste too. I think I may just try the other card to see what it's capable of then ship whichever one doesn't hold up to the "test" back ;)

Great score, Dane. Took to this overclocking business pretty fast. Already gone past me. What are your clock settings on that run. My tired old eyes can't see clearly (967/113x?). Will be waiting for the next installment. +Rep for the new player.

Edit: Have to wonder whether that Shader temp could be a sensor malfunction. Never seen that large a variation between vram and shaders. Have no idea how you would check sensor function or accuracy. Maybe someone else does.

Thanks Rev. Actually did a bit of benching on my m17x, ran a 16k 3dmark06 with a single 5870 and an i7820. The clocks are actually 967/1118. I don't know if it's incorrect, if it was I would think the temps would rocket into the 100's with that OC but they never broke 89 even with no cooling, could be wrong but that's just my opinion.

I think we're saying the same thing. If the 70C idle temp was correct, then you would expect load temps with that o/c to be well over 100C. Since it tops out at 89C, it suggests that the idle temp was not 70C, but something substantially less.

16K with an 820QM/5870M combo is astounding. Must be a world record. I have a 920XM/5870M system, and I have to crank the 920 hard to cross the 16K line. It must be said that my 5870 isn't much of an overclocker.

Sorry that was 16k 3dmark06 not vantage. That was an OC of 2.1 ghz on all cores for the 820 using setfsb, and a pretty good OC on the 5870 with A/C under it. Sorry for the confusion.

No, I understood it was 3dMark06. Still, an amazing score.

    Bless you.

Be careful. Inap has extreme cooling available that lets him go where few have gone before. Just how high was the o/c on that 940, Inap?

Sorry didn't realize the scores would be so blurry and pixelated resized. Kinda figured he had some pretty extreme cooling on his side when I looked at his temps, I haven't broken 80's without any cooling at all, I have a few tricks up my sleeve to chase the number too that I used pulling the score on my m17x and if worst comes to worst I have a new card in the mail. And yeah Inap I'll chase down your gpu score but there is no way I'll be able to touch your total score lol. That is an amazing score man, power to the 5850's!!! LOL

the gpu is fine, the cooling is for the cpu mostly, at those tdp and multi the temps get seriously hot very fast.

come on rev pop in that 920 and start frying it with us, hehehe

Lol big boys, I'm chasing GPU numbers to give him a run, now you too run CPU numbers head up. Dumb question if I'm chasing down just that GPU number do I need to do the full vantage run? AKA do I have to run the CPU tests for it to count on the board?

nobody is even taking scores no more, but just a gpu run would be good in my books. but i love chasing both at the same time, but really frustrating when i know the gpu score will be good but cpu test bsod. arrrghhh i hate that!!! because it just happened.

had time for another bench but failed at the last cpu test , only 10 secs to go. so 28-28-27-27 bsod me.

man we need someone to take care of this thread. i would do it but i'm not sure how to do those links to the scores and crap like that.

I'll try to contact them later tonight or tomorrow to see what I can get done. Dumb question what drivers are you using? I know this card can go further but my drivers keep popping on me at a certain level so I want to try a different driver if there is a better one.

I thought the latest Dell was 10.8? Huh I wonder if the 10.7 or 10.8 will hold any better numbers, I know it did wonders for the 5870 in the m17x so it might be worth a shot.

And not only 28x, he had the BaseClock tweaked up to 136.7 Mhz too. Had that 920 crankin' at 3828.5Ghz (28.72x). Shazam.

Only you can play in that league. We have faith, Inap. Don't break anything. LOL.

Yeah I noticed that too but will see if I can get 28x to run first. If it looks possible then ill contact abo again and see if setfsb works on my new setup.

Also on 27x I saw 4 fps for the first time on the cpu test for 06, that's crazy.

I've seen that a few times when running settings like 28-27-24-24 in '06, but not lately. Weird isn't it? Feel like you just crossed 250fps or something.
