My Quadro M4000M arrived today. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to do a lot of testing.

The first Firestrike run is about the same as the GTX 970M.

    Quadro M4000M with 940XM
    6255
    http://www.3dmark.com/fs/10121551

6274 - with power settings to Performance (new Win 7 install)

    GTX 970M with 920XM (daughter's machine)
    6036
    http://www.3dmark.com/fs/7942992

The card installed easily. No need to futz around with disabling the audio to get the hardware to install. A simple INF mod is required to install the drivers

Driver: Quadro 364.72 QNF (Quadro New Feature)
Max temp: 63c - Grizzly Kryonaut

Nvidia Inspector allows for GPU overclocking up to +130MHz +135MHz. The slider does not move for memory overclocking. Funny thing is I lost performance.

It runs out of power so I may have to see about getting this thing unlocked.

Ask prema to unlock it. Be sure to give a contribution for all the hard work he does :)

Pretty good news though. Stock performance is already greater than 970M! Shows that extra rops and vram bandwidth is more valuable than a clock speed boost.

Any feedback about heat, power consumption compared to 970M?

That's great news DS. Many thanks for taking it on, seems a great card at stock. Be good to see an in depth look at how it performs.
As KIT asked, would like to know heat at load and also if the DP works OK as game on TV sometimes.

Max temp was 63c when the GPU was overclocked by 130MHz. :D

This is fantastic! Looks like a well balanced card while the lack of vram on the underside really helps the M15x cool the card under load. Need to unchain the beast however!

    Did you contact Prema :)

    I did contact Prema.

I want to see how this does. Right now it does not appear to matter if it is overclocked due to the power limit being pegged.

    Ebay.

    Specifically here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NVIDIA-Quad...302938?hash=item1a18fbc55a:g:fRQAAOSw6n5Xqhuz

This company is based in Nashville, TN and it's about 40 minutes from where I live! :D
The card arrived in double bubble wrap and inside a sealed anti-static back. No issues at all. I gave them positive feedback on ebay.

If you can find a GTX 970M used it will probably be cheaper. New GTX 970M goes for $460 at RJTech.

@Prema has done some great work on this for me. Testing is being done initially in my M17x R4 because a brick is easily recovered. We worked late (for me) into the night last night on this. It runs really well in the M17x R4 and stays under 80c at 1412MHz

    Wow that is mighty impressive!

1412mhz is very fast! Is this the top speed?

Can you do some testing in the M15x now that you have unlocked it?

My 980M achieved a graphics score of 10247 in firestrike @ 1200mhz. Running pretty hot.

You have beaten that score! Would love to see the thing in the M15x with some liquid ultra to see the load temps at 1400mhz!

Well, it doesn't like going that fast in 3DM11 as it doesn't complete the run, even at 1.200v. It runs faster in Firestrike and completes the benchmark, so I would say it's not that stable at the moment.

Right now the M4000M does not like the M15x with the vBIOS that is currently in it as it will not post. @Prema has sent me a new vBIOS early this morning to try and fix the no post situation. I should be able to test it tonight. :D

Fastest speed I was able to hit was 1462MHz in Firestrike. The card pulled 170w at that speed and hit 83c (if memory serves me...) I know it sounds very cool, but it IS running very cool. This is in the M17x R4 mind you, not the M15x.

Oh that is a shame! Still iam sure Prema will work some extra magic and get it to work! 170w sounds like alot though! M15x wouldnt be able to handle that.

That was just the peak. It didn't stay there. Before the VBIOS mod it could not exceed 75w.

Hey deadsmiley any updates on this and comparisons to make between this card and the 970M? I need a final card for my M15x and don't know what to get...final upgrade I guess...

I like the M4000M in the M17x R4. I also like it in the M15x, however there are some trade offs.

    Pros for the Quadro M4000M

    * Wider memory bus (192 vs. 256 bit) means that memory overclocking doesn't do much. This allows more power for other things.
    * It runs very cool at stock speeds in the M15x.
    * It runs very cool overclocked to 1462MHz at 170w in the M17x R4.
    * It runs at full clocks (no throttling) with the stock VBIOS as long as it does not hit the power limit of 75w.

    Cons for Quadro M4000M

    * Once Prema started modding the VBIOS the M15x would no long post with that card installed. This is when I moved to the M17x R4 for testing and it works very well with the superior cooling in that machine.
    * The first card I bought is an HP card. Prema tells me it's a funky VBIOS to work with.
    * I THINK my second card is from Dell. I am not certain of this.
    * I tried restoring the original VBIOS to the M15x and it still would not post in the M15x. It worked fine in the M17x R4.
    * I bought a second M4000M for additional testing. I was thinking that may I juked up the VBIOS when I saved it from GPU-Z instead of using nvflash. This second card I used nvflash and will try to restore the VBIOS from the second card into the first. I will update this thread when that happens.

So I have no idea how well the M4000M works in the M15x. I wish I did because I think with 4GB RAM it will run cooler and faster than the 970M. However this is just a guess. I am currently using the second card in my M15x with the 940XM and it runs pretty good.

At this point I cannot recommend the M4000M for the M15x unless you can get it for a really cheap price.

Stick with the 970M as I haven't had any issues with it and it will run pretty darn good with an unlocked VBIOS.

Good feedback here. Really torn about upgrading to 970M tbh. Do not support Ngreedia in any way...how much slower is the m290x at this point? I guess somewhere between 30-40% stock for stock which is a lot!! Damn AMD

So just to be clear, if I were to buy a m4000m card and install it in M15X as-is, will it work or do I need the vBIOS for it to function?
    Thanks in advance.

If you buy an M4000M you do not need a vBIOS for it to function. A modified vBIOS for this card does results in a no boot situation.

Hi guys i'm new on forum and i have a quadro M4000M recently bought and i installed on Hp 8770w, it won't boot, i suspect it's because of dell's vbios.
According to this post i see that you had one with HP vbios, could you please send me the bios? ( my mail: [email protected])

I just bought the M4000M (a Dell version) for my M6700. I am wondering if the vbios that Prema modified could be shared with me. The one that allows for higher voltage and overclock. Thanks

My Quadro M4000M is due to arrive in a couple of days, any chance for getting a modded driver? I've seen a bunch of GTX 970M popping out around? ;)
