What is dell EPP? sorry i asked i know it has been answered. I assume it cannot be used in combo with alienware university?
and i know its a discount, but what kind etc.
-
who is offering 1100 for a barebones m17?
-
It was Phinalges suggestion to Mr.moo to get rid of his machine quicker so he could afford the new machine
.
-
This is what I'm looking at...
SYSTEM COLOR Space Black Anodized Aluminum
PROCESSOR Intel® Core2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
VIDEO CARD Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M, 2GB - SLI Enabled
(OR Single NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 280M if that becomes an option tomorrow)
LCD PANEL 17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p)
MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
HARD DRIVE 320GB 7,200RPM w/ Free Fall Protection
$2,449 with base warranty and no extra stuff.
What're you guys thinking about?
And what about the warranty? How useful/worth it is that? -
That's a solid config. Jump.
-
Im thinking everything standard except the 2x280s and throw in a Wuxga screen and Qx9300 later , i dont want Edge to edge glass(WAYY to much glare IMHO) and would rather have a bordered screen . -
It's a real shame they didn't offer the P9700 instead of the T9600 and the T9900 instead of the T9800.
-
Employee purchasing program which is similar to the Dell Student account but 2% more off than the Alienware U account.
-
Dell Student is 5% off or 7% off?
-
Assuming I'm going to keep this computer for a couple years (entering college in the fall) OR I'll sell it in a year or so, would it be worth getting the low-end Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) instead of the 2.8 duo?
-
does anybody know what brand of SSD they are offering with this beast?
-
I'd take the T9600 2.8Ghz over the 2.0 Ghz half-cache Q9100 since the machine doesn't have an overclock utility like the ASUS or MSI rigs.
If you're going to keep it a couple of years you can always upgrade the CPU later (like after warranty expires) to a Quad. -
7% same as EPP.
-
Quad, what do you mean edge to edge screen. I dont see any way to adjust that besides 1920 reso or 1440 reso. So by upping to the more expensive resolution you are getting edge to edge monitor thus creating more glare?
-
Thanks for the advice. As for that warranty part, it's like $150 extra per added year of warranty. How useful is the warranty? Should I consider getting two, three, four years of warranty? Or just get the 1-year in-home, or even limited, warranty?
-
I would get 1 year complete care and upgrade it longer before it expires.
-
Hopefully the Wxga screen does not have that glass on the front of it like the Wuxga screen does , i have no way of confirming it but maybe tomorrow it will be . I hated the glass on the W90 with a passion , its a frickin mirror unless your in the dark . read the W90 review in the NBR review section when they mention the Screen on it . You can also see it in the pics. If there both glass screens i doubt ill even be interested because to me the screen is the most important part of the machine and if i dont like that then i am not going to like the machine overall . this is just my opinion but i have owned a glass screen so i can offer some input. Also look at the pics on page one to get an idea of what a mirror these things can be.
-
Why draw it out instead of just buying more years up-front? Is there an advantage other than not having to put as much down on the spot?
-
This is what I'm looking at...
SYSTEM COLOR Space Black Anodized Aluminum
PROCESSOR Intel® Core2 Duo P8600
Upgrade later
VIDEO CARD Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 280M
LCD PANEL 17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p)
MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
HARD DRIVE 256GB SSD
Blu ray drive -
I just went to the AAFES site (Armed Forces) and the new M17X can be configured there too.
Not at the A.W. link, but at the Dell link.
-
What's the saying? Never buy the extended warranty on anything...
-
does this help to get rid of the glare???
http://www.buyviewguard.com/anti-glare-screen-protectors/index.php?id=VG-31905 -
Ah well thanks for the info. From your information i doubt i would like a glass screen so i can only hope it does not have one. Because I am ordering one of these at about 10:30 tomorrow morning =P
higher res..T9600..single 280 or 260SLI
Also 1333Mhz ram, totally worthless i assume? vs lower Mhz -
Why 1333MHz? Someone said that 1333 is useless atm because everything else is written at 1066 FSB. Is that right or is it worth the $50 upgrade?
-
If it's too reflective I'm going to try one of these anti-glare screen protectors out.
-
Less up front cost and there's always the possibility you won't want it anymore after a year. The extended warranty helps resale but not as much as it should.
-
heheh beatcha to it
^^^^^
-
buy it when it starts to run out
-
Yeah but you originally got the link from me pages ago.
-
idk man that is tentative for me....i might wait on it....
-
Without my warranty on my Thinkpad I wouldn't be using it today.
-
The 1333 is only good if your OC'ing otherwise it's a waste.
-
did i?!?!?!?!?!?!?
haha jk i did lol -
Now for the real question...
Who's getting black and who's getting silver? -
+1000 on the extended warranty.
A single mobo replacement on the m17x will probably cost $400 - $600.
GPU $300 - $800
It would be MUCH cheaper to add a couple of years to the warranty
-
Was it easy to find?
-
silver looks nice, thats what i would get...like an m15x on steroids
-
I plan on getting black unless I see "real" pictures that change my mind.
-
Yeah i thought about one of those before except those sorta Zap the brightness from the screen and these are not LED screens so there usually not very bright to begin with , but hey i might just be picky so dont even listen to me
.
-
do you think they'll scratch easier since it's edge to edge
-
Silver.
10char -
With the lighting conditions I work in it won't matter.
-
Nah the glass is very durable thats one of the upsides to it , just that GLARE!!! uggg
.
-
i think black silver is ok i guess
-
I like the silver but im not a fan of the 2 tone , i thought the whole thing would have been Silver . Ill be going black if i go at all .
-
I'm going for silver, it looks classy and helps with heat dissipation (I think).
-
I think the black and silver are anodized, so it shouldn't matter with regards to heat dissapation.
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Man the new m17x is beautiful, I love the design, and the price is actually decent, I hope it proves to have a great cooling system, and when Capella comes out in a few months, I hope Dell keeps the same chassis, and as for the color I would take the black hands down.
-
Didn't the original M17x have the option for white lighting?
-
Black
10 char...someone already said that..damn
