the 10% is combined with the 5% for student/military and the approval and use of the dell/AW credit card. no?

I'm not sure about military but EPP or Student is 7%. DPA is supposed to give you more of a discount but I'm unclear how you claim it.

 

actually it's 7% for student, EPP and 2% for Preferred customers account

How do you get the 2% from DPA? Is it cash back? I don't see it when I put an order through.

 

It's 3% for DPA.

During checkout, select the credit card option to pay. Once that comes up there is a banner the says "Get 3% off using your Dell Preferred Account".

You can't miss it - it is huge!

ok - so that makes 9%/10%...

all i was saying basically, is stop with all the 10% stuff...it seems that some are not aware that they would need a dell preferred account or AW account in addition to the student and epp in order to get the full discount you stated.

ALL: getting approved for a Dell/AW card is not easy. they are more strict then the standard CC companies or credit providers. they can be since it is similar in nature to a department store card. while the option to save the additional % seems nice, stick with the gauranteed epp/student/military and go from there.

I went through the process of buying it and nothing about additional discount popped up. Then again I was doing it with the M17x in my cart so that might be the problem.

 

I really like that they have the option of 2x 260M's in SLI for only 300 extra over the single 260M, it gives a much better price/performance ratio than 2x 280M's.

 

That's the point. Get your config and add to cart.

Play with the payment options until you can get the credit card tab.

Thanks, I was going through the DPA check out right away instead of going through credit card then select DPA. That was my issue.

Edit: It even says ETA is 7-6.

again...please state they have to be approved previously (if they dont have one) for the card. it is not as if they just click and go...

while i applaud the fact you want to help people save money, encouraging people to apply for credit to get the discount is not the best advise anyone can give.

i say please post the details and a disclaimer in one more post, as detailed as you can make it or want to, then drop the credit and savings regarding applying for it. this forum is not to be used for people to apply for credit.

Sure, if you plan to over clock... Otherwise the memory will just down clock itself to 1066.

If you were paying with cash for the system, you might as well get the DPA just for the 3% (pay it off the next day).

There are no annual fees or anything like that. In fact, I haven't used my DPA account in like 2 years but it is sitting there, waiting for me

Also, when choosing to purchase an Alienware laptop through Dell, it seems to redirect you to alienware.co.uk, eliminating any Dell discounts. Too many Americans...need more Britons to help. =(

Well it's going to be on Dell.ca's website for Canadian residents tomorrow, so I don't see why it wont be available to UK residents as well, I think it's a world wide release and yes it will be available for order tomorrow.

Basically, if you cancel extended credit (secured or unsecured), as it stands now, it actually is a hit against your rating. This may change in the future as the current FICA system is an absolute mess.

But keep the DPA, use the discount, pay it off, but don't cancel the DPA. Unused credit is not dangeous (unless annual fees or minimum monthly fees even with a zero balance) and just sits there till either you use/re-activate it or the companies for whatever reasons close your account(s) (usually inactivity)
