Looks like everyone went to sleep like little kids on Christmas Eve! lol Nighty night.

is there not a dual core exteme? I would prefer that since i don't have much use for quad at the moment and I could upgrade later if quad were more abundant and affordable. From what I've read only the extremes are OCable (not sure). If so, then only one processor would do it qx9300. I guess i could just wait a day, but i'm so excited!
-
i may be wrong but i did not see a daul core x proc avail for the unit...
-
i couldn't get dell's 7% dicount i couldnt select the m17x
-
-
ill go AW route n get the 5%

OK guys i need some help im playing with the idea of SLI 260's im having trouble finding any bench's
any one got book mark of some. ?
also im not familiar with the card but i should be playing any game out on high with a single 260 and max them out with 2. -
I'd just say spend an extra $300 and splurge on the 280's
-
no benchies i know of, but from what i have read, the largest difference is the shader...
there was a previous post in here or another where someone put out frame rates comparing the 4870, 260, and 280 cards...cannot remember if it was desktop rleated or not though... -

Personally if i decide to buy this laptop, it will be with 260M's in SLI as the price performance ratio is too good to pass up, basically its 300USD extra for only an extra 32 stream processors and slightly higher clocks which don't really add up to that much real world performance over the 260M's at least not enough to make it justifiable in my opinion unless you really have the cash to burn. -
Megacharge Custom User Title
Basically a 260M is a die shrunk 9800M GTX with higher clocks, it performs pretty much like a desktop 9800 GT but with faster memory bandwidth 61GBPS for the 260M vs the 9800 GT's 57.6GBPS so you can imagine a laptop with two of these will be quite the beast.

WOW, there's ad banners all over Gamespots web site announcing the All powerful laptop. Click on the ads and it sends u to Dell's web site configure one....

Thanks for the link man.... Errgggg Choices choices! Sager 9280 or the Alienware... I'll have to wait for the reviews

Here are some benchies of a single 260M with a 2.66ghz P9600 http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=371000

Ok heres my dilemma.... my setup all maxed on a sager 9280, including Blu-ray, sound card with wifi audio... 6gb ddr3, 1 GTX 280m, an I7 950, 1TB hard drive etc.... will run me about 3100... is it really worth the extra 1,000 dollars to go with an M17x with an X9300, 2 260m in SLI, 6gb DDR3, Blu-ray, no Audio card, 640gb HD, and a 3 year warranty which I would get free with Sager?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
go down on the ram and get the 280m sli.
but i would wait for the new sager -
The Sager warranty is only for labor not parts. I'm thinking about getting the one year warranty and then extending it within the 12 months... that should help lower your config price and it would be a fair conparsion to the Sager since the first year is 'free' with them....

We'll Im going to college next year, I will be getting my 4 year Major in Virtual technology and design... I love gaming, and I will have to replace and or upgrade my laptop in the next 2-3 years... Maybe I should just get a Sager 8662 for my first 2 light years as the 3-4 year I will need a powerful laptop... But I hate to compromise and have been working my butt off to raise money for a laptop... what do you think?
-
for the full 3 years.....I thought the Sager site is 1 + 2.
One year full, 2 years labor... -

I have been on here for the last 3 months milking all the information I can on these badboys... I was all set on the 9280 or the 8662, and then Alienware and Dell had to rear it's freakish double head at me and spit out a glorious chunk of hearthrob machinery... I really need to know what Chipset the new Alienware is using and if it has MXM 3.0b slots or not.... If it does I could be set for the next couple years
-

-
Yeah the MXM question needs to be answered..
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Agreed, Good things come to those who wait.... I just hate the last part lol.... I know a couple people who got their 9280's today though
Anyway what about the chipset/ motherboard... if this has a intergrated GPU as well then it must be a Nvidia Motherboard...But that could be that they are using a new motherboard and we get MXM 3.0's or it could mean they are using an old Chipset -

Looks like this is popping up everywhere on Dell's site except for EPP.

I was gonna go for:
Intel® Core™2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M, 2GB - SLI™ Enabled
17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p)
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
250GB 7,200RPM
Slot-Load Dual Layer Blu-ray Combo (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW).
That brings it to $2574, so hopefully it'll be around £2000-2100. Though, I'm still unsure about upgrading to:
Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
Is the weaker quad worth it for future proofing? And have we definetly ruled out the 1333Mhz memory being of any use considering the cpu? -
unless your overclocking both of those will be not worth it
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
As for the 1333mhz ram, it will be useful if you plan on over clocking the cpu, I think the max ram speed on this particular laptop is 1066mhz so if you are not over clocking, the 1333 ram will just down clock itself to 1066, if you are going to over clock your cpu then the 1333 ram gives you some head room. -
funny how people talk about future proofing without looking at the other aspects of what you have with it.
i.e. - you can upgrade the dual to quad..ok - but what about the capabilites of the mobo when the quad becomes usefull...??
your mobo will then be ancient tech by the time quads are used at the peak they are meant to be used for.
and that is just an example...
please, do a favor for yourself, get a dual core and save the money...
in two years time the quad may be up to par and more usefull, but other parts of the unit wil be outdated by then anyway... -
-
thats another reason i am not too happy...lol
seems they are forcing next gen cores when they really dont need to...
but hey, im not on the board of decision makers...
i as you, think a dual core xtreme would be a better seller then the quad one. -
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/p...ptop-alienware-m17x?c=fr&cs=frdhs1&l=fr&s=dhs
This is a joke. 2k Euro is $2500. Let's hope GTX260 SLI and WUXGA are included, or the price is a typo =) You lucky Americans :S
Oh, nevermind. They just activated the configurator. The price includes the Q9000 -
Megacharge Custom User Title
I just hope Dellienware gives OC options for everyone, not just the extreme cpu buyers hopefully we can at least have that .3 OC option.
-
your looking at the wrong model
-
Me? There's only one model on the french site at the moment
Anyway, the european configurator is quite messed up at the moment.

change the 2 in the link to 1
