I'm on the phone with Dell right now trying to correct this. He's checking to see if anything else is missing.
-
I realized that the Standard Nameplate is there by default but there's no personalization option.
Are they going to add complete care option for EPP? -
http://www.notebookjournal.de/news/neuer-alienware-gamer-vorgestellt-1414 says we will see the HD4870 in one or two months, that there will be no single GTX 280M option, and that the keyboard has three separate lighting zones.
also, some very interesting info regarding the airflow - air comes in through the two side vents and the front grills, and exits to the back and downwards. which would render every popular notebook cooler useless. -
Anyone figure out if the Wxga option is not Edge to Edge glass yet ?
-
Yes, I'm just putting Alienware M17x on the nameplate and he added the complete care for me.
-
I'm on hold still I can ask them.
-
I read some benchmarks a few days ago, and it had the 280m SLI competing with the 4870 xFire...and the SLI won. Did I read it wrong?
-
I think it would look pretty cool, and I think we may still see it in the line-up eventually. You can see it in the right of this picture:

Crossfire 4870s in 1-2 months changes things for me now. -
Thanks for the legwork Mandrake.
-
WITNESS THE FUGLINESS!!!!
-
Why? Wouldn't the sli 280's beat it (by a small margin)?
-
Thank you .
-
Oh dear GOD... what in the world is that fugly thing??? LMAO
-
LMAO xDDDD
-
They need to put the 4870s in the m17 to compete with m17x
-
He said both are edge to edge.
My order is still not placed. He said there having issues fixing the complete care warranty problem. He said I should hear something in a couple hours. -
more important news from http://www.notebookjournal.de/news/neuer-alienware-gamer-vorgestellt-1414 .
- three fans, with specially designed blades for big airflow at low revs
- MXM-compatible-slots confirmed
- the BIOS will allow users to overclock RAM, FSB, and (possibly only Extreme) CPU
- the HD4870 will be available in both single and crossfire.
- GPU switching will be on the fly (no reboot).
- Command Center is back in full regalia. -
If those 4870s are DDR5 then the 280s are in for a world of hurt, but alot of this will come more from synthetic benchmarks then games, not to mention no physx support from the ATI end (not that it means much but still) plus nvidia always has 9 million sets of drivers to play around with (something i enjoy
) .
When i had the W90 my single card vantage runs for instance were higher then then 280mGTX in the sager 5797 (couldnt compare SLI because they dont have it ) but thats just a basic example and the W90 was DDR3 so if the new ones are DDR5 and clocked higher they are going to be monsterous. -
Don't know. I've only seen testing done against the phony 4850+s in the W90.
Then there's the question of will there be a price difference. -
a Tosser QosmicallyNasty X(tremelyUgly)305.
-
Bummer , but thanks for confirming.
-
Yeah the M17x spec page confirms two overclocking settings in the BIOS for Extreme CPUs only.
I linked it a couple/few pages back. -
Why is the m17x only on dells site and not alienware's notebook section?
-
It isn't 10am yet (for AW, that is
)
-
It's on their site but it automatically redirects you to Dell's site. It's just not in the same section with the M17.
-
Oh... Interesting.
Dell is probably going to take this over completely then. Hmmm. -
So whats the current best route to get the most bang for your buck ?
-
I've waited this long seeing if the M17 would get CrossfireX 4870s so I'd feel cheated if I didn't wait another month or two and GDDR5 4870s perform better than GTX 280M. Of course AW could just drag the whole deal out even longer and I may still end up getting the 280Ms.
Sucks though I was really hoping to buy the day of release.
-
EPP + DPA w/ base model - only upgrade to WUXGA and SLI 260's
= $2000 w/ free Next Day shipping
-
How much extra would the 280s bring the price up on the EPP ?.

I called Dell Financial Services to try to figure out how to order this thing. The same rep said:
1) Alienware Titanium Accounts can not be merged into Dell Preferred Accounts as they're on entirely separate systems (despite being handled by the same group).
2) Alienware Titanium Accounts *CAN* be used on Dell's site, but you have to make a new DPA account and link it. However, I can find no way to link the Titanium Account to anything on Dell's site. It refuses to even acknowledge my card.
Called back, talked to another rep, and they said it's impossible to use a Titanium Account on the Dell site, and they confirmed it with their supervisor. So it looks like if you have an Alienware Titanium Account you may be *seriously* SOL. I never felt more burned for having been loyal to Alienware before. :| -
Get a DPA and close the Titanium.... Problem solved.
-
Like the new sig
-
Grats Mandrake. ;]
Is that the 2.53Ghz Quad or the Duo? -
11% x $300 = $33 Total upgrade cost of 280's w/discount = $267
~$2267 -
Thanks, I'll also be adding my new 500GB 7200RPM disk I just ordered from them on Sunday.
-
And you take a minor credit hit by closing an account and immediately opening a new one. I don't qualify enough for a DPA at this time, and I've already got a $2,000 limit completely open to ordering from Alienware.
It's stupid I have Alienware credit that I can not use on Alienware. Absolutely stupid. -
It's the P8700, maybe I should make that clear...big difference.
I want a x9100 so I'll start shopping after I get it. -
I agree that is is dumb. I guess you can wait a little bit for it to possibly be available to order thru the AW website.
-
Did you ask if upgrading to a X9100 on your own will support the two unlocked multipliers?
-
YYYEESSSS!!!!
DPA now has NO interest for 12 months on AW systems!!!!!!
WOOT -
Nope....I didn't even ask why it wasn't an option. He's supposed to call me back so I can ask. I still would not have gotten the Quad since it's not what I really want and came with a premium price.
-
Not to mention 4% off instead of 3%....every little bit helps.
-
Is the nameplate thing fixed?
-
Nice. I think the computer is priced very reasonably. I honestly was thinking it would be akin to armed robbery. If you just upgrade the important stuff like 280's SLI and the screen, you are set. You then get the other goodies from somewhere else. An extreme Core 2 Duo would've been nice.
Anyway, I did what most would and built a system as close as possible to my current M17, and it came out to about $175 more than what I paid with 260's in SLI. This is before tax and shipping so a new M17x with almost exact matching specs as my M17 is $M17 + $175 + S&H + Tax.
Not really exciting, but not really savage either.
Someone posted an article earlier on this machine possibly getting 4870's in a couple of months. I guess that's it for the M17's chance at getting these puppies.
Edit: OK, word from the M17 owner's thread. 4870's might be coming to M17.. very (hours) soon. *crossing fingers* -
MXM 3.0b?
10char -
Not on the site yet. He didn't say he was having an issue with it when I ordered. Just the complete care warranty.
-
you get a discount with DPA? Where does it say that? All I see is the no financing until 2010 offer.
